Bible Verse of The Day – 9-11-23

Isaiah 51:2 (NKJV) 2 Look to Abraham your father, And to Sarah who bore you; For I called him alone, And blessed him and increased him.”

As God addressed the Israelites through the prophet Isaiah, He urged them to remember their roots, the origins of their faith.

He reminds them of Abraham, the father of their faith. God blessed Abraham for his obedience, also making him the father of many nations.

Through his seed, many nations were born.

Abraham was not perfect. He was a frail human who made some poor choices, as we all do from time to time.

Despite this, God used him and blessed him.

Why did God bless him? Because he had great faith. He trusted God in ways that no man had ever done before.

Abraham was one man. Yet he became the patriarch of the Jewish people.

He was blessed because of his faith.

How about you and me? Where do we stand in this big picture of God’s kingdom?

We are no different than Abraham. We are human, and we are frail, prone to falling from time to time.

But God can use us and bless us too!

We may not become the father of many nations, or even one nation for that matter.

But God can take the little faith we have in Him and multiply it if we let Him!

He can take us and transform us into someone we may not recognize years down the road!

Will we build nations? Will we father a whole new people? Will our lives impact hundreds of thousands of men and women?

That’s not likely. But it is possible!

We just need to trust Him and surrender ourselves to Him wholly. And then watch what He can do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-29-23

Psalm 17:5 (NKJV) 5 Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip.

As David prayed these words, he did so as part of a series of petitions that he was laying before God.

David endured many attacks in his life because of his position and because of his faith in his God.

Many of these attacks could have ended with David’s life being snuffed out. He was despised deeply by his enemies.

As part of the petition, David asked God to uphold his steps, that he may not stray from God’s path, and that he would not slip because of the pressure on him.

This can also happen in our own lives.

The path that God has set before us can sometimes require drastic measures on our part if we wish to adhere to that path.

Sometimes it might mean having to make decisions or choices that cause us emotional anguish.

This may come when God calls us to take a path that separates us from people, places and things that are familiar to us.

The loss of those familiar things, or people we are close to, can sometimes cause us to question our steps.

And if we are not careful to stay close to God, we can forfeit our destiny by shying away from the hard things that we encounter.

Let us stay close to Him in all things. We must press into Him and learn to trust Him as He leads us, not forsaking Him or His path when the steps He asks us to take become difficult.

We may not always understand Him, but His ways are surely better than ours.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-4-23

2 Peter 1:10 (NKJV) 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

As we discussed in a previous devotional, life can sometimes bring major changes; storms that beat on us and threaten to take us down.

In keeping with that theme, we’d like to talk today about doing what is necessary to ensure that the storms we face aren’t successful in defeating us; preventing us from finishing the race we’re running.

Peter spoke about “making our call and election sure”.

He did that for a reason; because we play a major part in ensuring our eternal destiny.

Christ provided the vehicle by which we traverse the road to eternal life.

But we are the driver of that vehicle. We choose its course.

We decide whether we will follow the path set before us by God; the narrow path. The path that few travel.

God will provide us with directions. He is like our own personal GPS (God-Powered-Steersman), giving us guidance. The map is laid out before us.

Will we trust that GPS and make all the right turns on our journey? Or will we wander off course because we don’t like the path He has placed us on?

Maybe we decide to veer off the prescribed path because we think we know a better way. But this only shows that we need to further build our trust in God.

We need to do whatever is necessary to grow and mature in our faith, so we will make the turns we’re directed to make, when we’re directed to make them, without hesitation and without arguing with our “GPS”.

This may require us to “put our blinders on” at times, to keep us from getting distracted by so many of the things we see happening around us.

The stuff we see may pull our attention away from God because we want to take charge and make our own corrections and adjustments.

Or maybe we want to fix something ourselves, because we don’t trust anyone else to do it; not even God, the Giver of life and breath.

It is only in spending time with Him that we can fix this problem in ourselves.

We need to learn to trust Him, one little step at a time, until we reach the point where we trust Him so much that we no longer question Him.

It doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time. But we can get there if we sincerely try.

Trust Him. Follow your “GPS”. Make your call and election sure. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-7-22

Matthew 7:13-14 (NKJV) 13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Over the last few months, you may have noticed that our devotionals have focused much more on topics related to strengthening our walk with God and ensuring our salvation.

There’s a reason for that.

It’s absolutely necessary due to the seasons through which we are walking and living.

Salvation isn’t something that we can take lightly. It is, instead, something that we need to take more seriously than anything else that we will ever endeavor to do in our lives here on earth.

Our eternal destiny relies on it.

And we are the only ones who can make the decision to follow Christ, and then make the decisions that are required to walk that out daily.

We are all unique. No two people will have the same walk with God. And this is by design.

Despite the differences, though, there will be things in common; a sincere heart, a broken (contrite) spirit, humility, willingness to repent, willingness to seek God’s forgiveness, willingness to make change as God directs, and willingness to forgive others.

This is a lifelong process. It takes effort every day. Some days we will nail it. Other days, maybe not so much.

But God’s mercy is bigger than our failures. And through Christ we can do all things (Philippians 4:13).

So, seek Him daily with your whole heart. Press into Him. Put Him first in everything. And if you fall down, get back up, repent and let God point you in the right direction.

Do whatever is necessary to keep your feet on the narrow path. For He is faithful to lead us if we let Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-25-22

Hosea 14:9 (NLT) 9 Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.

As the book of Hosea is coming to a close, the prophet penned these closing words above.

The beginning of the verse mentions “these things”. “These things” refers to the prophecies that he shared previously.

Hosea is encouraging those who are wise to understand the things that God has spoken through him.

He then urges those with discernment to listen carefully.

His closing sentences especially hit home with me when I read them.

The paths of the Lord are true and right.

Everything about God is true. The paths He lays down for us are right (perfect, flawless, faultless).

And what does he say next? That righteous people live by walking them.

As children of God, it behooves us to walk the paths that God has set before us. It is what He desires.

Does that mean it will always be easy? Not at all. And that can sometimes scare us away.

But we need to know and understand that if God directs our steps, those steps are what’s best for us, even though it may sometimes be uncomfortable, or may possibly even hurt.

What is our goal as followers of Christ? To follow Christ and the examples He set for us.

Jesus followed the will of the Father all the way through, including surrendering His life on the cross for humanity.

So, if we are truly following Him, wouldn’t it make sense for us to follow God’s path, even when it might be hard?

As we wrap up this teaching, let’s take a look at what Hosea said in closing; in those paths sinners stumble and fall.

Knowing that, if we are God’s children, shouldn’t we be the ones who don’t stumble and fall on His path?

Let’s ponder on that for a while.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-31-22

Genesis 12:1 (NKJV) 1 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.

Go to a land that I will show you.

These are the only words that God offered Abram (Abraham) when He told him to leave his family and his father.

Abraham wasn’t given the benefit of even knowing where he was headed. He had to trust God 100% as he packed his belongings and left.

This is one of the best examples in the entirety of God’s word when it comes to trusting God solely based on His word.

It’s critical that we understand the weight of what God told Abraham, particularly the words, “a land that I will show you”.

Can we truly understand the faith that it took for Abraham to obey God in this?

Let’s put ourselves in Abraham’s shoes and see if we can even begin to figure out how we might respond to this kind of command from God.

Do we think that we would just jump right up and head out immediately, with no thought to what it really means for our lives? Or would we hesitate, understanding the depth of it all, understanding that we don’t even know where it is that we’re headed to?

It’s pretty safe to say that most of us would fall into the latter category, flinching terribly at what we’re being told to do.

This is a great litmus test for our faith in God. It’s a good gauge that can show us the true level of trust we have in Him, the God who created us and everything we see around us.

Let’s sincerely endeavor to press firmly in to Him, learning more of Him, so our faith and trust reach new levels, allowing us to make decisions and choices of great depth without anguishing greatly over them in the process.

None of us will ever get this perfect. But the time we spend in His word, and time spent communing with Him will help us greatly mature in these areas.
