Bible Verse of The Day – 1-25-24

Acts 16:6 (NKJV) 6 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.

Paying attention to the promptings of the Holy Spirit is so very important, and even more so in the days we live in.

We could be walking into a dangerous situation at times, but with His guidance we will be able to withstand the wiles of the devil.

We can avoid a lot of problems if we remain sensitive and eager to follow His leading.

Ephesians 6:11 (NKJV) 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

There will be times when we may never know the reason for the things He keeps us from doing. We just need to know that by following Him we did the right thing, and it could have saved our life.

He tries to show us the importance of staying alert.

Acts 16:8-9 (NKJV) 8 So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”

Here we can see the Holy Spirit led them by a vision or a dream.

His word and prayer are the two primary ways that God leads us. He may also use a dream or a vision.

Are we open to such things today or have we completely disregarded them, thinking they were only for the apostles?

That is wrong for us to think. He is still the same God He was then. And the Holy Spirit is still the same Holy Spirit, speaking the same way He has always spoken.

God will lead all of us through the Holy Spirit if we are open to Him and let Him lead as He sees fit.

Psalm 32:8 (NKJV) 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-28-23

Galatians 3:28 (NKJV) 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Paul is teaching us here that in Christ there is no favoritism regarding race, rank, or sex. We are all sons and daughters of God through our faith in Christ Jesus.

God will make His home in those who truly love Him.

It doesn’t matter our background or who we were before our hearts surrendered to Him.

Jesus says, if anyone loves me, he will keep My word and My Father will love him and make our home with him.

Who is this “him” Jesus speaks of? Those who love the Lord, Jesus Christ and keep His word.

John 14:23 (NKJV) 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

Keeping His word is an absolute!

This means we have to pay attention to His word, the Bible, and what He says in it.

Following Him in obeying what He tells us to do is an outward expression of our hearts. Keeping His word active in our daily actions is what matters to Him.

Is it hard at times to stay true to His word? To be honest, yes.

We may feel like giving up at times. We might feel like we are missing out on things others are doing and having fun with.

We may feel like we work so hard to stay diligent and faithful in doing His word, but people ignore us and sometimes don’t want us around.

Those are just a few examples of what we can feel at times.

But, let me say this; there will be more days of seeing the results from us pushing through, staying steadfast and not giving up than there will be days of the negative kind.

Having the Creator, our Lord and Savior, and the Holy Spirit make their home in us will undoubtedly come with a cost.

The cost is loving Him more than anything or anyone, and fully surrendering to Him.

Who does He come to?

To those who love Him and keep His word.

It doesn’t matter what we have done in the past, if we surrender to Him, He will make His home in us.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-15-23

John 8:12 (NKJV) 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

He is the light.

In order to not walk in darkness, we must follow Him.

Following Him means we must know what He says. And in order to know what He says we have to study His word.

We can’t just study a little here and a little there. We can’t just study when we have the time. We have to make the time.

We have to be diligent in our studies, willing to put aside other things that we enjoy doing, and pick up the word of God to study or meditate on it.

Joshua 1:8 (NKJV) 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

It’s not going to just happen.

We have to make it happen.

How do we do that? By being in it night and day.

We will only follow Him to the fullest if we know what it is we have to do to follow Him. We must have His word hidden in our heart.

Not only does it keep us accountable for our actions, it also gives us strength to say no to certain things when we need to.

It helps us to stay disciplined and balanced in every area of our lives.

Psalm 119:11 (NKJV) 11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-7-23

Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV) 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Sometimes some of the simplest things can teach us a great deal.

This verse is a good example of this.

Many times, looking deeper into a simple phrase will help us better understand it and gain more knowledge from it.

So, let’s see what we can learn from this verse if we dig a little deeper.

First, let us address the phrase, “the fear of the Lord”.

The fear being referred to is not a condemning kind of fear. This is a reverent and worshipful fear. Think of it as reverential awe.

There is also an element of fear that may cause us to actually be afraid since God is all-powerful (omnipotent). But the bigger emphasis here should be on the reverence aspects of the word.

Now, let’s move on to see what reverent fear is or does in the context of this verse.

It is the beginning of wisdom.

So, having a reverent fear of God is the beginning of being wise. It is the first step in our journey to obtain knowledge and wisdom.

Unbelievers may have some knowledge and understanding, but their knowledge is limited and not rooted in absolute truth until they have a genuine relationship, based on reverential fear, with the one true God.

What does this verse say about those who do not fear the Lord?

They are fools who despise wisdom and instruction.

The word, “fool”, in this verse denotes a person who is morally deficient; one who walks a fine line between doing things that may be legal, but not morally sound.

And in their state of being in moral decline, these kinds of people despise wisdom (intelligence, understanding, insight) and instruction (teaching, training, guidance).

This disdain for instruction is due to their desire to continue to do what they know in their heart (conscience) is wrong. They love their sin more than they love (desire) truth and righteousness.

Let us not be fools, but desire and love wisdom and instruction, walking in reverent fear of our God.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-18-23

Proverbs 16:9 (NKJV) 9 A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.

Sometimes we have to turn back or slow down for things to get better.

I know; no one likes to feel like they are going backwards after taking steps and working so hard to move forward.

But, know that if the occasion arises and we need to pull back, that we shouldn’t refuse it.

I had a dream recently. and in the dream there was a person driving a vehicle.

They were trying to cross a road to get to the other side. As they were doing so, they saw and felt danger up ahead.

As the dream continued, the person driving continued to go forward, instead of turning around or putting the vehicle in reverse and backing up. They stepped on the accelerator and pushed ahead.

They ended up under water and the vehicle tipped upside down. It’s important to note that there were children in the back seat of the vehicle as well.

Thank God this was only a dream.

When I woke up, I realized that if that person had just simply backed up when they saw that there may be danger, they would have saved themselves and others.

Sometimes in life it is hard to go back. But what good is it to go forward if it’s going to hurt us and others?

We need to understand that God will often warn us, and we must pay attention to the signs.

We must train ourselves to pull back at any given moment when He prompts us to, instead of continuing to plow through because of our forward momentum.

God knows what’s best for us.

If this word is for you today, don’t be afraid or feel like a failure if you have to pull back from what you thought you were supposed to do.

Save yourself and others that may be affected by it. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-16-23

2 Timothy 4:2 (NKJV) 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

As followers of Christ, it should be fairly common that we pour out what’s in us to help others.

An example of this might be us sharing words of hope or encouragement with someone we meet. Many times, it will be with total strangers.

Or it might be knowing just what to say to someone who needs to hear from God, even if they don’t necessarily know God.

We are God’s light here on earth. And we are to shine that light on others as God gives the opportunity.

Matthew 5:14-16 (NKJV) 14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

This requires a certain level of preparedness on our part. It can be likened to being a vessel that gets poured out as we walk the path that God has placed us on.

So, it’s important that we (the vessels) have what is needed in us so that we are able to pour it out when it’s required.

Empty vessels are not useful. We need to be sure we are full.

What are we to be full of? God’s word, And His wisdom, which comes by His Spirit.

We need to be studied up when it comes to His word. It needs to be in us, so we are full, just as a reservoir is full of water that can be drawn from upon demand.

We need to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us, to do what needs to be done and say what needs to be said at the right time.

This isn’t something that we learn to do overnight. It comes as we draw closer to Him and learn to follow His leading.

But He is faithful to teach us. We just need to be willing to do our part.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-30-22

Genesis 7:6 (NKJV) 6 Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters were on the earth.

While I have been reading through Genesis recently, God has been showing me some new things.

While going through the account of the flood, some little tidbits have come to my attention that I wanted to share with you.

The account of the flood is loaded with details that are easy to miss. Here are some of them.

Noah was 600 years old at the onset of the flood.

Using calculations based on when Noah’s sons were born, along with some other references in Genesis, it appears that the building of the ark took somewhere between 50 and 70 years.

God warned Noah of the coming flood and instructed him to build a boat to very exact specifications. And Noah, being a righteous man, did what God told him to do.

But doing so took a very long time!

Noah had to have incredible faith in God to tackle this project, knowing that the existence of humanity hung in the balance, and it all rested on his shoulders.

Genesis 7:24 (NKJV) 24 And the waters prevailed on the earth one hundred and fifty days.

The earth was covered with water for 150 days.

So, although the inundation of the earth with water went on for 40 days and nights (about 1 and a half months), the water stayed there for 5 months!

It’s impossible to imagine what this must have been like for Noah and his family, being in a ship for the first time, dealing with the fears that must have accompanied this event, and having to tend to the massive numbers of animals that were on the ship with them.

Their journey lasted 1 year.

It was just shy of 1 year later when the earth had dried up and Noah exited the ark with his family.

Floods began: In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month (Genesis 7:11).

The earth had dried up: And in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dried (Genesis 8:14).

Some of the things that God has us do won’t be easy. And they may take a while to play out to completion.

This requires our faith and trust in Him to be strong, not wavering or short-lived, and not fading or faltering when things get hard.

We need to stay close to Him, constantly in His word, and always seeking Him for His will and His path for our lives.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-25-22

Hosea 14:9 (NLT) 9 Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.

As the book of Hosea is coming to a close, the prophet penned these closing words above.

The beginning of the verse mentions “these things”. “These things” refers to the prophecies that he shared previously.

Hosea is encouraging those who are wise to understand the things that God has spoken through him.

He then urges those with discernment to listen carefully.

His closing sentences especially hit home with me when I read them.

The paths of the Lord are true and right.

Everything about God is true. The paths He lays down for us are right (perfect, flawless, faultless).

And what does he say next? That righteous people live by walking them.

As children of God, it behooves us to walk the paths that God has set before us. It is what He desires.

Does that mean it will always be easy? Not at all. And that can sometimes scare us away.

But we need to know and understand that if God directs our steps, those steps are what’s best for us, even though it may sometimes be uncomfortable, or may possibly even hurt.

What is our goal as followers of Christ? To follow Christ and the examples He set for us.

Jesus followed the will of the Father all the way through, including surrendering His life on the cross for humanity.

So, if we are truly following Him, wouldn’t it make sense for us to follow God’s path, even when it might be hard?

As we wrap up this teaching, let’s take a look at what Hosea said in closing; in those paths sinners stumble and fall.

Knowing that, if we are God’s children, shouldn’t we be the ones who don’t stumble and fall on His path?

Let’s ponder on that for a while.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-22-22

Mark 4:24 (NKJV) 24 Then He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. With the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given.

And to you who hear, more will be given.

Being aware of, and embracing the things God is showing us shows Him we are ready for more.

Sometimes, though, we might ignore Him.

Maybe we are busy or we don’t want to be bothered. Maybe we are tired and just don’t want to hear or know one more thing. This can happen to any of us. It’s called being burned out.

But even if we are feeling burned out, if we remain listening, He will guide us into restoration, healing and give us strength. He would be the first One to tell us to rest and pull away to a secluded, quiet place.

We should never stop listening to Him because we are tired. We may need to shut others out, but we should never shut Him out.

I have had times when I’ve felt like everything is pulling on me. When that happens, I have to force myself to stop and shut down.

But, when I get to my quiet place, where it is just me and God, that is where I hear Him through His word.

My strength comes back. His words refresh and renew me. His presence builds me up. His arms hold me tightly and make everything better.

Our ear must remain on Him. He is our Rock!

1 Samuel 2:2 (NKJV) 2 “No one is holy like the Lord, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.

Listen, heed what we hear from Him. Walk in it and more will be given.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-1-22

Proverbs 16:9 (NKJV) 9 A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.

When we want the Lord to direct our steps, our ear must be in tune with Him.

And how do we do that? The Holy Spirit must be given the freedom to have dominion over our flesh.

It’s OK if we want to plan our own lives. But we need to understand that if we are not willing to let God direct our steps, we will only get out of it the fruits of our flesh.

Many believers today are wondering why God is not intervening on their behalf.

We need to understand that God intervenes on our behalf when we give our plans over to Him. He goes to bat for us when we are walking out His steps.

We can’t jump on board and then jump off and expect results that are in line with still being on board. We’ve got to stick with Him through thick and thin.

For instance, if we want a particular job really badly, and we go after it because it’s our desire to work at a particular place, we may get that job and be excited to be there. But we may not get the full benefit of what God had for us.

If we wait on God to direct our steps, it will all happen in His time and the results will be far better than us trying to do it on our own with our own knowledge.

Having our own plan is not necessarily a bad thing, and God does not look down on us for it. But anything that God has or wants for us would be much better, of course, and He would definitely have the way and purpose for it.

It’s up to us. We have to decide.

Sometimes we are already in God’s plan without even realizing it. Many times our heart is just wanting and longing to be close to Him, so we end up walking out His plan unknowingly, living in His blessings because of our obedience. Praise be to Him!

It’s not complicated at all. Don’t stress over it.

And when we are there, we will notice how fulfilling it can be as we flow in following His lead.

Our prayer is for us all to walk in His plan for our lives.
