Matthew 4:1 (NKJV) 1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Jesus fasted for 40 days. And at the end of that time, the devil came to tempt Him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Because Jesus hadn’t eaten for 40 days, the devil offered Jesus what he thought would be the most likely thing to get Him to fall; food.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Jesus rebuffed the devil, telling him that man doesn\u2019t live by bread alone, but by the word of God.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Matthew 4:4 (NKJV) 4 But He answered and said, \u201cIt is written, \u2018Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God<\/span>.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The devil tempted Him again, taunting Him and encouraging Him to throw Himself off of the high place they were on, telling Jesus that God\u2019s angels would surely protect Him if He decided to do so.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Again, Jesus countered the devil, telling him that we should not tempt God.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Matthew 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Jesus said to him, \u201cIt is written again, \u2018You shall not tempt the Lord your God<\/span>.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The third attempt, the devil took Jesus to a very high place. He showed Jesus great kingdoms of the world and all of their glory, telling Him that if He would bow down to him, all of this could be His.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Once again, Jesus rebuked the devil, telling him to leave, and reminding him that we shall worship and serve God, and only God.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Matthew 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Then Jesus said to him, \u201cAway with you, Satan! For it is written, \u2018You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve<\/span>.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

So, if Jesus, the Son of God relied on God\u2019s word to rebuke the devil, how much more should we also rely on God\u2019s word to defend ourselves from the wiles of the enemy?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

How much more should we hide God\u2019s word in our hearts to make sure we can stand strong when the pressure of temptation tries its hardest to drive us backwards and bring us to our knees?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Psalm 119:11 (NKJV) 11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Let\u2019s follow that light and stand strong in Him!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n
