Luke 10:30-33 (NKJV) 30 Then Jesus answered and said: \u201cA certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Recently we got to spend some time with a couple we had never met before.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

As we sat, eating and sharing great conversation, they\u00a0shared with us how the gentleman had recently been injured very badly, requiring surgery and rendering him unable to walk for a lengthy period of time. During that time, he was confined to his home.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

They went on to share that during the time when he was unable to leave home, not a single person from their local church reached out to check on him. This left a scar on him. His fellow parishioners, whether intentional or not, failed him when they could have reached out and offered him encouragement, hope, help, etc.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

We live in a day and age where people seem to be happier to pull out their cell phone and record people in need rather than offer to help. It\u2019s truly sad to think that the body of Christ has fallen into the observer category instead of offering kindness and compassion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Every one of us knows someone who could use our help in one way or another. We don\u2019t always have to drop what we\u2019re doing and drive somewhere to help. Sometimes all it takes is a phone call to check on someone, to encourage them, to let them know we care.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Sometimes all it takes is to stop what we\u2019re doing and pray for them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

And, yes, sometimes it\u00a0does<\/em>\u00a0require that we take the time to set ourselves aside and go the extra mile for someone; make them a meal, stop by to visit them, help them with a specific task that they can\u2019t do themselves.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

We carry the light of God here on earth. We represent Him in this world that\u2019s so busy and uncaring. Let us not fall short and behave like those who do not know Him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Let us not be like the priest and the Levite who looked at the man half dead beside the road and chose to leave him there without rendering aid.<\/p>\n

Let us, instead, be like the Samaritan who not only helped him, but went the extra mile and made sure he was cared for even after he had left.<\/p>\n

Luke 10:34-35 (NKJV) 34\u00a0So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, \u2018Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you<\/span>.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
