Psalm 37:4 (NKJV) 4 Delight yourself also in\u00a0the Lord, And He shall give you\u00a0the desires of your heart.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We wrote a devotional recently based on James 4:14 (life is a vapor) and Ecclesiastes 1:14 (all is vanity and grasping for\u00a0the wind). In it, we asked\u00a0the question, \u201cwhat is life?\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In response, we had a reader write and ask if\u00a0this contradicts\u00a0the idea\u00a0that life is a gift from God. So, we wanted to clarify\u00a0this to avoid any kind of misunderstanding.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

To answer\u00a0the\u00a0question directly, life is definitely a gift from God, no matter how we look at it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But, to make sense of\u00a0this and divide\u00a0the gift from\u00a0the vapor and\u00a0the grasping for\u00a0the wind, let\u2019s break it down a bit further.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

When we have the gift of life, given to us by God himself, the question comes down to what we do with it. Do we simply live it as though it is our own, with no accountability to our Creator? Or do we give it to Him and let Him direct our paths?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

That right\u00a0there will determine how we see life as a whole.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

James spoke of life being like a vapor. A lifespan is short when compared to eternity. We are here and\u00a0then gone in a very short time, just as a vapor\u00a0that comes and goes very quickly.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Solomon spoke about how so much of\u00a0the way we spend our lives is simply grasping for\u00a0the wind. Life itself is not grasping for\u00a0the wind. But\u00a0the way we spend<\/em> it can be.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Do we delight ourselves in\u00a0the Lord, as mentioned in\u00a0the verse above?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This verse in Proverbs\u00a0sums it all up nicely:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV) 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

You see, if we delight ourselves in Him, and we acknowledge Him in all we do, our lives will never be like grasping for\u00a0the wind. On\u00a0the contrary,\u00a0they will be blessed in so many ways. Psalm 37:4 says He will give us\u00a0the desires of our heart.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Now\u00a0that doesn\u2019t sound like grasping for\u00a0the wind, does it?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It\u2019s all about perspective, and about\u00a0the choices we make during our ever-so-short lives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

What will we choose? Will we choose to delight ourselves in Him? Will we acknowledge Him in all our ways?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The answers to those two questions will outweigh everything else about our lives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
