Philippians 2:9 (NKJV) 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cTherefore God also\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Anytime we see the word \u201ctherefore\u201d used, we need to understand that there is some kind of condition being implied. So, therefore means \u201cbecause of this\u201d. This means we always need to look to see what that condition is.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Here in verse 9, \u201ctherefore\u201d is referring to Christ\u2019s humility, due to His humble life on earth as a human, His complete obedience and the cruel death that He died. It is, though, also used in a way that causes His humble life and humiliating death to be linked to His eventual exaltation by the Father.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The two (humiliation and exaltation) are inseparably linked. Without the one (humiliation), there could not be the other (exaltation).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

God has \u201chighly exalted Him\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Upon His ascension, Jesus traded His lowly life on earth where He lived as a humble servant, in complete obedience to the Father\u2019s will, for a place of elevation at the right hand of the Father.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

His time on earth living as a human being allowed Him to now act as the Intercessor for all believers, and the Final High Priest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He has been given \u201cthe Name above every Name\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He is no longer known simply as Jesus. He is now known as \u201cLord\u201d, placing Him above all things in heaven and on the earth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cLord\u201d, used in the New Testament, is a synonym for the\u00a0Old testament descriptions of God as a sovereign ruler.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Having the new name, \u201cLord\u201d establishes Jesus as the King of Kings, ruler of heaven and earth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Revelation 19:16 (NKJV) 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
