Luke 2:11 (NKJV) 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Sometimes I ponder on this verse and what actually happened that night, so very long ago.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The depth of it is mind-boggling. But it is a reality nonetheless.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

And that reality stares us in the face each and every day; that God came to earth in the form of a man, and walked among us, ultimately dying in our place to atone for our sins. Your sins, and my sins.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Sometimes I get frustrated with the way this event gets celebrated. It has been exploited by manufacturers and retailers to a great degree because they all know that people give gifts to celebrate this event, even if they don\u2019t necessarily follow Christ.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But I try to overlook the blatant commercialism and, instead, look at the massive gift that was given on that holy night.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It is a gift that has eternal ramifications. It is a gift that radically changes lives. It is a gift that has the power to break the back of sin in our lives. And it is a gift that removes the sting of death in the lives of believers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Many people like to say that we give gifts because the three men who had traveled from afar gave Jesus gifts that night. And that is true. They\u00a0did<\/em>\u00a0give Jesus some incredibly valuable gifts. He was, after all, their newborn King.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But I prefer to look at the gift that was offered to each and every one of us, in the form of a child, a baby who came to offer Himself, that we might have the opportunity to know God one-on-one here on earth, and then spend eternity with Him when our time here is through.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Enjoy your day today, and remember the true reason for the celebration.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
