Psalm 119:40 (NKJV) 40 Behold, I long for Your precepts; Revive me in Your righteousness.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

King David was ahead of his time. He was one of very few people who understood that God\u2019s laws could not make us holy, nor could they give us a close relationship with Him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Instead, he understood that if he grew his relationship with God, he would also have a stronger desire to walk in God\u2019s precepts and please God along the way.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This is something that we all need to understand.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Following a set of rules doesn\u2019t make us righteous. Doing what someone tells us doesn\u2019t make us holy or sanctified.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Even today, living under God\u2019s grace, there are still way too many people who think that following a prescribed set of steps or rules will draw us closer to God. This is 100% false.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

God Himself tells us that if we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

James 4:8 (NKJV) 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He also tells us that if we seek Him with all our heart, we will find Him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Nowhere do we ever see God telling us that if we keep a set of rules that it will cause us to walk more closely with Him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

We urge you to draw near to Him. Seek Him with all your heart.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

When we do this, then, because we are closer to Him, we will begin to walk out His precepts in our lives as He transforms our hearts and renews our minds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
