Mark 14:36 (NKJV) 36 And He said, \u201cAbba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As a young believer, I remember reading this and being struck by the fact that Jesus set Himself and His will aside and gave preference to His Father\u2019s will in this situation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This was a big deal, because it wasn\u2019t a minor\u00a0decision\u00a0or choice. That choice cost Him His life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Today, over 40 years later, I am still in awe at this. And I try to use this as my model for obedience to my Father in heaven.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

I have never been in a situation where my obedience would cost me my life. But I try to live out my walk with God as though it may someday come to that. And it may very well as we surge ahead in this\u00a0season\u00a0we are walking out. Only God knows.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

I frequently try to picture in my mind what it must have been like for Jesus, as He literally wrestled with His flesh, determined to make the right choice and obey His Father.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

And, as we all know, in the end He did the right thing. He made the hard choice. He walked it out, ending with His death on the brutal Roman cross of shame.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But that choice gave each of us the opportunity for new life in Him; a life of redemption and forgiveness, free from the consequences of our sinful past.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Thank you, Jesus, for your obedience. Thank you for being willing to go all the way to the finish line, and for not backing down when the rubber met the road.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Let us each have the conviction and the courage to do the same in our day-to-day lives, taking our faith seriously, as it should be.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
