John 8:12 (NKJV) 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, \u201cI am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In Monday\u2019s devotional, we used this verse to reinforce the fact that Jesus was the light of the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Today, let\u2019s look at it to see what it means to us, as believers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Look at what Jesus said about those who follow Him;\u00a0they\u00a0\u201cshall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

That\u2019s some significant stuff right there.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Why is it significant?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Because it tells us exactly who we are supposed to be and what our lives should look like.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Let\u2019s break it down.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

1. Those who follow Me.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

What\u00a0does He mean by the word, \u201cfollow\u201d?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Jesus was very clear on several occasions regarding those who follow Him. In another scripture (John 10:27), he said that His sheep would\u00a0know His voice, and they would follow Him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Following Him means more than just knowing who He is, or having a casual knowledge of Him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It means to put our complete faith and trust in Him, and to walk that faith out in every aspect of our lives. It is not something that rises and falls based on our emotions or our daily moods. We are no longer our own. We belong wholly to Him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

2. They shall not walk in darkness.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This isn\u2019t referring to natural light. This is a reference to how our lives are conducted. We live in the light of the Holy\u00a0Spirit, and that light shines through us, onto to those around us and into the dark world that we live in.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Our lives reflect that light, and it should be visible in everything that we do.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Will we be perfect in executing that? Not as long as we are living here on earth, walking in the fleshly body that we inhabit. But as we allow His Spirit to teach us and guide us, He will become more and more obvious in our actions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

3. They shall have the light of life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

1 John 1:7 tells us to walk in the light as He is in the light.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

As we allow Him to guide our steps, darkness will slowly be pushed out of our lives, and light will dominate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The things we say and do will more clearly represent the kingdom of God (light), and the ways of darkness (evil) will eventually fade into the distant background.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Ephesians 5:8 (NKJV) 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
