Matthew 7:22-23 (NKJV) 22\u00a0Many will say to Me in that day, \u2018Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?<\/span>\u2019 23\u00a0And then I will declare to them, \u2018I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!<\/span>\u2019<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Many might read this and think that Jesus is referring to those we might consider \u201cunsaved\u201d in our eyes; those who live ungodly lives and are easily recognized as unbelievers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But look more closely. What does Jesus say they did?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

They prophesied in His name, cast out demons and performed wonders in His name. That doesn\u2019t really describe anyone who is easily recognized as an unbeliever, does it?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

You see, there are (and will continue to be) many who \u201cwalked the aisle\u201d. There will be many who \u201cprayed the prayer\u201d. And even many who \u201crepented and asked for forgiveness\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

And yet, the hearts of those never changed. They walked through all of the outward motions, but they never allowed God to touch their heart and bring genuine change.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

These people look, for all appearance\u2019 sake, like believers; followers of Christ.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

They speak the right words, act the right way at the right time, etc. But deep inside, they are the same person they have always been; dead in their sin.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

I can recall a short period of time where I was that person. I had \u201cwalked the aisle\u201d and \u201cprayed the prayer\u201d. And though I \u201cfelt something\u201d when I took those steps, I didn\u2019t change right away.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

I still cussed up a blue streak. I still drank (and got drunk). I still lived like the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But at some\u00a0point\u00a0after that, I finally \u201cgot it\u201d. I felt God\u2019s Spirit tugging at my heart, wooing me, calling me\u00a0to\u00a0truly repent and let Him in.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

And when I finally surrendered, I knew it. And it was outwardly obvious that I was beginning to be transformed into a new person; a person who had been touched by God in a life-changing way.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It\u2019s important for us to understand that we don\u2019t need to \u201cwalk an aisle\u201d or \u201cpray a specific prayer\u201d to be saved. We just need to genuinely, wholly surrender to God, recognizing that we are lost and need His grace and mercy over our lives,\u00a0through\u00a0the sacrifice that was made on the cross by Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This is not to say that \u201cwalking an aisle\u201d is bad. Nor is \u201cpraying a specific prayer\u201d to ask for God\u2019s forgiveness. But they are not Biblically required or necessary in order for us to be born again.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The work was already done for us when Jesus died and rose again, making a way for us to be saved from our\u00a0flesh and the sin that dominates us. All we need to do is sincerely, genuinely embrace that gift and then live it out.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Let\u2019s not be one who walks an aisle and recites a prayer, and then goes on to live life as though God never touched us. Because the truth of the matter is, if we live like that, He probably never did<\/em> touch us.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

And that puts us in grave danger of being one of those mentioned above, where Jesus says \u201cI never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
