Hosea 14:9 (NLT) 9 Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

As the book of Hosea is coming to a close, the prophet penned these closing words above.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The beginning of the verse mentions\u00a0\u201cthese things\u201d. “These things\u201d refers to the prophecies that he shared previously.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Hosea is encouraging those who are wise to understand the things that God\u00a0has spoken through him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He then urges those with discernment to listen carefully.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

His closing sentences especially hit home with me when I read them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The paths of the Lord are true and right.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Everything about God is true. The paths He lays down for us are right (perfect, flawless, faultless).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

And what does he say next? That righteous people live by walking them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

As children of God, it behooves us to walk the paths that God has set before us. It is what He desires.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Does that mean it will always be easy? Not at all. And that can sometimes scare us away.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But we need to know and understand that if God directs our steps, those steps are what\u2019s best for us, even though it may sometimes be uncomfortable, or may possibly even hurt.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

What is our goal as followers of Christ? To follow Christ and the examples He set for us.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Jesus followed the will of the Father all the way through, including surrendering His life on the cross for humanity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

So, if we are truly following Him, wouldn\u2019t it make sense for us to follow God\u2019s path, even when it might be hard?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

As we wrap up this teaching, let\u2019s take a look at what Hosea said in closing; in those paths sinners stumble and fall.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Knowing that, if we are God\u2019s children, shouldn’t we be the ones who don\u2019t<\/em> stumble and fall on His path?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Let\u2019s ponder on that for a while.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
