Hebrews 6:15 (NLT) 15 Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.<\/p>\n
Oh, what we can learn from Abraham!<\/p>\n
Many times over the years I have heard people refer to \u201cthe patience of Job\u201d.<\/p>\n
But I have never heard anyone mention the patience of Abraham!<\/p>\n
In reality, it was Job\u2019s faith that brought him through his ordeal; his battle with the enemy and the bodily attacks he endured.<\/p>\n
Abraham, on the other hand, had patience.<\/p>\n
When God promised Abraham that He would make him a great nation, Abraham was 75 years old (Genesis 12:1-4).<\/p>\n
By the time Isaac, the child that God had promised him, was born, Abraham was 100 years old. Now that\u2019s patience!<\/p>\n
Don’t get it wrong; Abraham was far from perfect. And his wife, Sarah, was just as bad, as she encouraged Abraham to have a child with her maidservant after waiting 10 years or so.<\/p>\n
In the end, though, God was faithful as He always is, and Sarah conceived a son in her old age. And Abraham held on for that promise, knowing that God would somehow make His promises come to pass.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s try to put ourselves in Abraham\u2019s shoes for a minute or two.<\/p>\n
How would we have handled his situation? Would we have endured long enough to allow God to carry out His plan?<\/p>\n
Many of us don\u2019t want to wait 25 minutes, never mind 25 years. But as we mature in Christ, we usually learn that God\u2019s word is true, and His promises are worth holding onto because He is faithful.<\/p>\n
And with our maturity, we begin to understand that God\u2019s timing is almost never the same as ours. That\u2019s the biggest thing we can learn when it comes to trusting God and waiting on Him.<\/p>\n
Trust God. Wait on Him. It\u2019s not necessarily easy. But it\u2019s God\u2019s plan and His way that we need to follow, not ours!<\/p>\n
