Job 42:10 (NKJV) 10 And the Lord restored Job\u2019s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.<\/p>\n

Job had been through quite an ordeal.<\/p>\n

He had lost his family, his possessions and his health. And to top it off, his wife and friends were giving him very bad advice.<\/p>\n

Job had spent a fair amount of time speaking words about God that were not favorable. He demanded an audience with God so he could question God on some things that were bothering him.<\/p>\n

Some of those things included questioning God about the way He handles injustice, and the evil that he had seen play out over his years.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, God had come to Job and corrected Job\u2019s incorrect assumptions and ideas. And Job repented.<\/p>\n

God also scolded Job\u2019s friends for their foolish words and horrible advice for Job.<\/p>\n

Here is a key thing we can learn from what transpired.<\/p>\n

God told Job\u2019s friend, Eliphaz, that he and his other friends had aroused God\u2019s wrath against them because they had spoken incorrectly about Him. And then He told them to make a very specific sacrifice and let Job pray for them, \u201clest I deal with you according to your folly\u201d.<\/p>\n

Eliphaz and his friends obeyed God, as did Job, who then prayed for his friends and saved them from God\u2019s wrath.<\/p>\n

Because of Job\u2019s repentant heart, and his obedience to God, God restored what Job had lost, and increased it.<\/p>\n

And while some may focus on the fact that Job\u2019s possessions were doubled, that\u2019s not truly what\u2019s important.<\/p>\n

What is<\/em> important is that Job repented and obeyed God. And it was this that caused God to restore Job\u2019s losses.<\/p>\n

Finally, it\u2019s interesting to note that the words used in the original text actually said that God \u201cturned the captivity of Job\u201d, meaning that God released Job from the captivity of his situation. And then<\/em> He restored his fortunes.<\/p>\n

The key takeaway from all of this?<\/p>\n

Stay humble. Repent. Trust in God\u2019s sovereignty.<\/p>\n
