Matthew 6:26 (NKJV) 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?<\/span><\/p>\n

Welcome back!<\/p>\n

As we wrapped up yesterday\u2019s segment, we had mentioned that Jesus was assuring the people they need not worry about what they would eat or drink, in verse 25.<\/p>\n

Jesus took it one step further in verse 26 (above), by using birds as an example.<\/p>\n

He drew the people\u2019s attention to the fact that birds neither sow nor reap, yet they are fed and adorned by God himself.<\/p>\n

If that\u2019s true, and if we are of more value than the birds, then we should not worry about how our own needs will be supplied.<\/p>\n

He then went on to ask people what they gain by worrying.<\/p>\n

Matthew 6:27 (NKJV) 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s important to note that although the word, \u201ccubit\u201d, is normally used to measure length, it is also used to measure time.<\/p>\n

So, Jesus isn\u2019t really asking if worrying can make a person taller. He\u2019s rhetorically asking if worrying will add any days to your life!<\/p>\n

We all know the answer to that question.<\/p>\n

Then, in verse 28, He goes on to ask, \u201cwhy do you worry about clothing?<\/span>\u201d, stating that, \u201cthe lilies of the field neither toil nor spin<\/span>\u201d and \u201ceven Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these<\/span>\u201d.<\/p>\n

As with the birds being fed by God, He exclaimed in verse 30 that if the flowers and grass are so adorned, why should we worry about what we will wear.<\/p>\n

It was becoming very clear that Jesus wanted them to understand the importance of trusting in God instead of worrying about “these things”.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s wrap this up tomorrow!<\/p>\n
