Mark 10:7-8 (NKJV) 7 \u2018For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 8 and the two shall become one flesh\u2019; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Marriage is a sacred covenant between God and a man and woman who have chosen to spend their lives together as one.<\/p>\n

The key to marriage is understanding the concept of the two becoming one flesh.<\/p>\n

There is a physical aspect to this that involves sexual intimacy. But it goes way beyond that.<\/p>\n

Marriage is a contract between a man and a woman. That contract is ratified before God and any other parties who may be present at the marriage ceremony.<\/p>\n

From the moment they enter into that sacred contract, their lives change.<\/p>\n

They no longer have just themselves to think about. They are now bound to another human being, joined together as one.<\/p>\n

Everything about their lives should change accordingly.<\/p>\n

Some couples wrestle with this. Surrendering their personal sovereignty can be challenging at times.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s important that we work at this and do our best to make it happen.<\/p>\n

Without this, a marriage becomes very lopsided. And it can cause trouble over the years due to this imbalance.<\/p>\n

When it comes to marriage, there should no longer be \u201cyours or mine\u201d. It should now all be \u201cours\u201d.<\/p>\n

This should apply to possessions, finances, etc.<\/p>\n

Everything that is done should be done based on mutual consent, not solely on one person\u2019s preference or opinion.<\/p>\n

Everything is now based on both parties, not just one.<\/p>\n

Compromise is a major part of successful marriages. Learning to give and take, not just take, is a big deal.<\/p>\n

Some couples settle into this easier than others. But any couple can master this if both are willing to work at it and do their best to help make it happen.<\/p>\n

So, we urge you to do just that; work at this. Let God lead you in everything.<\/p>\n

And as you do this, watch as your marriage flourishes under His covering.<\/p>\n
