Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.<\/p>\n

During our lifetimes as a follower of Christ, we will see and hear many people claiming to have a word for us from God.<\/p>\n

We will hear teachings on many different topics, all supposedly based on God\u2019s word.<\/p>\n

We will have people tell us that God wants to bless us, or that He wants to anoint us for a specific task.<\/p>\n

We will see groups of people, some of them exceptionally large, following teachers who tell them how good their lives can be.<\/p>\n

Our walk with God will be a lengthy obstacle course full of things that we will need to discern and determine whether they are of God or not.<\/p>\n

How do we do this?<\/p>\n

How do we accurately discern these things and know who or what to believe as truth?<\/p>\n

Simple.<\/p>\n

Go back to the word of God.<\/p>\n

The word of God is our measuring stick. It is the standard by which everything we see and hear is validated or proven to be false.<\/p>\n

Sometimes the things we hear are plainly false. We know it the second we hear it.<\/p>\n

Other things might not be quite so cut and dry.<\/p>\n

Many falsehoods are skillfully wrapped in tidbits of truth but are really lies in a pretty package.<\/p>\n

This is why it is critical for us to always go back to the word of God.<\/p>\n

As we spend time studying, learning, researching, growing, and maturing, we will gain a more solid understanding of His word that will help us break through the confusion and peel back the layers of false teachings.<\/p>\n

And this will make the truth glaringly obvious to us, allowing us to toss away the heresy that masquerades as the genuine article.<\/p>\n

Always go back to the word of God!<\/p>\n
