Romans 8:13 (NKJV) 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.<\/p>\n

Welcome back!<\/p>\n

Yesterday we spent some time getting a better understanding of what the Bible means when it refers to \u201cthe flesh\u201d.<\/p>\n

Now that we have that knowledge and understanding, let\u2019s talk a bit more about the flesh and how it impacts our lives.<\/p>\n

The verse above tells us clearly that living by the flesh is not a good idea.<\/p>\n

Doing so results in death.<\/p>\n

Sometimes that death may be physical. But most of the time it is speaking figuratively, referring to spiritual death.<\/p>\n

Romans 8:6 reiterates this, telling us that the consequence of living by the flesh (carnally minded) is death.<\/p>\n

Romans 8:6 (NKJV) 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.<\/p>\n

In these examples, death is spiritual; eternal separation from God.<\/p>\n

God desires that we live by the Spirit, not by the flesh.<\/p>\n

He wants us to love Him above all else, putting Him first in everything; every choice that we make.<\/p>\n

This means that we must consider Him in everything we do, whether minor or significant. And we weigh what we choose, using the Holy Spirit\u2019s leading to give us direction.<\/p>\n

Some choices are very clear immediately and require no contemplation. We will know the answer in these situations right away.<\/p>\n

Others might not be so clear and may require time to seek God and get His answer.<\/p>\n

But the Holy Spirit is faithful to show us. It is up to us to listen and follow His lead.<\/p>\n

Now that we have firmly established what \u201cthe flesh\u201d is, and the dangers of living by it, let\u2019s talk tomorrow about \u201cliving by the Spirit\u201d.<\/p>\n
