2 Samuel 22:26-28 (NKJV) 26 \u201cWith the merciful You will show Yourself merciful; With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless; 27 With the pure You will show Yourself pure; And with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd. 28 You will save the humble people; But Your eyes are on the haughty, that You may bring them down.<\/p>\n

What an incredible synopsis offered by the prophet Samuel on the righteousness of God and the ways He handles human beings.<\/p>\n

These verses show us that we will reap from what we have sown; both good and evil.<\/p>\n

There is an abundance of truth and no-nonsense instruction found here.<\/p>\n

There are some translation variations here that make these verses even more interesting, so let us look at them for further insights.<\/p>\n

In verse 26, the word \u201cmerciful\u201d is translated as kind, loyal, or faithful, depending on the Bible version you choose.<\/p>\n

The literal translation is \u201choly\u201d in the original manuscripts.<\/p>\n

This does not infer a pure holiness such as what is encompassed in God Himself, but a holiness shown by a righteous lifestyle and a heart that desires and wholeheartedly endeavors to please God.<\/p>\n

Also in verse 26, the word \u201cblameless\u201d infers having integrity. Its literal meaning is the word, mighty.<\/p>\n

Mighty does not always refer to physical strength. A person can be mighty in many ways, including courage, fearlessness, dedication, perseverance, etc.<\/p>\n

The word \u201cpure\u201d indicates a pureness of heart on the human end, not perfection or literal purity. For we know that perfection is unattainable for human beings.<\/p>\n

In verse 27, the word devious could also be replaced with crooked.<\/p>\n

And, finally, in verse 28, the word \u201chumble\u201d could be replaced with the word, afflicted, as we see that God\u2019s eyes are on the haughty (proud), that He may bring them down (in His perfect timing).<\/p>\n

Take heart, children of God! His eye is on the righteous, holding them up. And it is also on the wicked, bringing them down and judging them for their wicked deeds.<\/p>\n

May our hearts be found clean in His eyes, washed by the blood of Christ, and our lives be found pleasing as we draw nearer to Him each day.<\/p>\n
