Acts 5:1 (NKJV) 1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession.<\/p>\n

This event took place in the early days of the church, when the hearts of the people were united, and they gave everything, all their possessions, for the needs of others.<\/p>\n

When Ananias sold his possession, he gave some of the money from the sale to the church, but led the disciples to believe he was giving the entire sum.<\/p>\n

He willfully mis-led them.<\/p>\n

But Peter, being led by the Holy Spirit, questioned him about it.<\/p>\n

Acts 5:3 (NKJV) 3 But Peter said, \u201cAnanias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?<\/p>\n

He pointed it out. And look at what he called it; lying to the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n

Keeping part of the money wasn’t the problem. It was his deceit, acting as though he was giving it all.<\/p>\n

You see, it\u2019s important to stay straight with God.<\/p>\n

Yes, we are imperfect. And we sometimes do things that are contrary to what we know is right.<\/p>\n

But, trying to act as though we are doing the right things when we are not is worse than just going to God, admitting our guilt and asking for His help with getting it right.<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t pretend with God.<\/p>\n

Maybe someone today is faking it, and everyone around us thinks we are doing it right. But deep down we know there are some things we need to confess, own up to, repent for, and get on track with.<\/p>\n

People may think we are fine. But God knows the truth. He sees our heart.<\/p>\n

Are we lying to Him? Will we continue to fake it and keep up with the deceit?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not too late.<\/p>\n

Today is our day to admit what it is that we have been hiding, bring it to the surface and make things right with God.<\/p>\n

Amen.<\/p>\n
