1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV) 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, \u201cDo not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

While man focuses on outward appearances, God examines the heart\u2014a truth often reiterated, and yet sadly overlooked.<\/p>\n

If we were to look deep into the relationship between man and God, we would see that the single biggest factor affecting man\u2019s part of that relationship is his or her heart.<\/p>\n

In the verse above, there is a legitimate reason why God bypassed all of Jessie\u2019s older sons and chose David; the heart with which David approached God.<\/p>\n

And as we study the word of God, we will see this truth confirmed time and time again. It is undeniable.<\/p>\n

Jesus confirmed this frequently in His teachings.<\/p>\n

Here is just one example:<\/p>\n

Matthew 15:18-20 (NKJV) 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is why it is so critical that we submit ourselves wholly to God, and that we spend time in His word daily.<\/p>\n

It is time in His word that changes our heart as we take it in and allow the Holy Spirit to use it to convict us and sanctify us.<\/p>\n

And if we were to dig deeply into God\u2019s word, we would find thousands of references to the heart of man.<\/p>\n

Just as moving water smooths a stone over time, so will the Word of God polish us and transform our hearts as we dedicate ourselves to studying and learning it with a desire for Him to shape and mold us.<\/p>\n

There are no shortcuts. There are no secret formulas. There are no overnight methods for this transformation.<\/p>\n

We must be willing to make the effort and be sincere in doing so. And as we are faithful on our part, God is faithful to give the increase.<\/p>\n
