Matthew 12:21 (LSB) 21 And in His name the Gentiles will hope<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n

In this verse, and the verses leading up to this one, Jesus was quoting the prophet, Isaiah.<\/p>\n

Leading up to this, Jesus had healed a man who had a deformity in his hand. It was on the Sabbath that this took place, and the religious leaders took issue with Jesus for \u201cworking\u201d on the Sabbath.<\/p>\n

Jesus had withdrawn from the location of this incident. But the crowds had followed Him, so He spoke to them, quoting this well-known prophecy.<\/p>\n

The prophecy revolved wholly around the coming Messiah, bringing to light many details about who He would be and how He would carry out His work.<\/p>\n

But this last line of what Jesus quoted, above, says it all in one succinct sentence; in His name the nations (Gentiles) will hope.<\/p>\n

You see, without Him, we are a hopeless people wandering through life with no purpose and no anchor; boats drifting on the sea with no direction and no stability.<\/p>\n

But in Him we find hope, direction, and purpose.<\/p>\n

This hope is for the nations; every earth-bound soul born from Adam and Eve until the last day.<\/p>\n

There is no hope apart from Him.<\/p>\n

In Him there is rest for the weary, peace for the embattled soul, joy for those who mourn, and, most importantly, redemption for the lost.<\/p>\n

Matthew 11:29-30 (LSB) 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n
