Matthew 20:21 (NKJV) 21 And He said to her, \u201cWhat do you wish<\/span>?\u201d She said to Him, \u201cGrant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This woman\u00a0was pretty bold in her request for her sons. But Jesus explained to her that it was not His to say who was to sit on His right or left side. It was more important for Him to teach them how\u00a0to\u00a0serve, and that\u00a0even He did not come here to be served but to serve others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

We may have a drive in us today to be popular or well-known. A drive to make\u00a0a great\u00a0name for ourselves, or to\u00a0stand out in some way. But, Jesus\u00a0emphasizes\u00a0the importance of serving.<\/p>\n

He doesn’t\u00a0teach us\u00a0to strive after power, popularity or similar things in life. Instead, He teaches us to learn to\u00a0be servants.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Matthew 20:26 (NKJV) 26 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Why do we suppose the Messiah, our Savior, our King, wants us to desire\u00a0being a servant more\u00a0than\u00a0an important seat, a big name or a powerful title?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Because it’s through serving that we learn a\u00a0great\u00a0deal. We learn\u00a0character. We learn to be someone who has a heart that cares\u00a0and walks in compassion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Having a nice position and the best seat in the house\u00a0isn’t\u00a0for us to say. It\u00a0comes from the\u00a0character\u00a0we build up through\u00a0serving one another and doing\u00a0the right things in life with the right intentions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Don’t worry about being first,\u00a0about titles, seats and\u00a0positions. Instead, let’s find a way to serve and\u00a0build our\u00a0character. When we do this, our seat, job, or position\u00a0will have\u00a0our name written all over\u00a0it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
