Psalm 51:10 (NKJV) 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Having a clean heart takes serious focus and relying on God.
As David cried out to God to create and renew in him such a heart, he knew that he needed God’s help to even begin this change.
It’s a humbling moment when we realize or recognize our heart condition.
It can even be discouraging at times.
But we must remember that God did not leave us to make such changes alone, to work it out solely with our own strength and understanding.
He sent us a Helper; the Holy Spirit. And it is very important to let the Holy Spirit guide us daily in everything that we do.
John 14:26 (NKJV) 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
David was not perfect. And he did do some pretty harsh things. But in all his doing, he realized He needed God to help him; that it was only by God’s hand he would change.
Are we there today? Have we done some things that we are embarrassed about, and we don’t even want to talk about?
God can and will change us if we are ready to give ourselves into His hands. We must choose to completely surrender, deny the desires of our flesh, and let Him live in us, giving Him preference in everything.
Galatians 2:20 (NKJV) 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Amen.
