Bible Verse of The Day – 11-18-23

Daniel 1:3 (NKJV) 3 Then the king instructed Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, to bring some of the children of Israel and some of the king’s descendants and some of the nobles…

Some of the children of Israel were exiled to Babylon to serve king Nebuchadnezzar.

Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, four Hebrew boys were about to go through a very big change.

They were required to learn a whole new way of doing things in the king’s palace.

Wouldn’t you think, being God’s children, that He would deliver them from this situation and make the king bring them back to Israel?

He did not.

But He did help them find favor by giving them wisdom and understanding ten times better than all the others.

Daniel 1:20 (NKJV) 20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm.

They were required to go through a three-year training course. They were taught the language and literature of the Chaldeans.

They were also required by the king to eat and drink things that would defile them.

Right from the start, Daniel had to take a stand in a place he was not from.

Because he knew the food and drink that the king offered would defile him, he purposed in his heart not to receive it.

He fought to keep himself away from such things and to remain loyal to God and continue to do the things he knew were good for him, no matter where he was.

Daniel 1:8 (NKJV) 8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore, he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

When we face a situation where we may have to choose to stand up and fight for what is right, remember Daniel and how he purposed to do the right thing and how it all turned out good for him despite circumstances that looked very bleak in the natural.

God will give us a plan and His favor!!

He may not necessarily keep us from being placed in certain situations. But He will help us to get through it if we follow His lead.

Don’t give up. We are children of the Most High.

With His understanding, wisdom and plan, we will make it through the most difficult situations and not be defiled. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-3-23

Genesis 4:7 (NKJV) 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

As Cain and Abel, the sons of Adam and Eve, became adults and began to find their way in the world, each of them had different skills.

Cain was a gardener, growing fruits and vegetables.

Abel was a shepherd, tending his flocks of sheep.

When the time came for them to give an offering to God, they each gave from their livelihood. Cain gave fruit as an offering. Abel gave the firstborn of his flock.

God was pleased with Abel and his offering, but He did not accept the offering of Cain.

The word of God isn’t specific as to why Cain’s offering was rejected, but Cain probably knew why.

It is likely that it was not Cain’s offering itself that God rejected, but the attitude or the heart with which he gave it.

Whatever the reason was, God was not pleased with him, and Cain knew it.

This caused Cain to become angry, so God addressed him.

The simplicity of how He addressed Cain is profound; “If you do well, will you not be accepted?”.

He made it clear to Cain that if he simply “did well” (did what was right in God’s eyes), he would be accepted.

But then, because He knew Cain’s heart, He issued him a warning; “if you do not do well, sin lies at the door”.

And He went on to tell Cain that sin would try to overtake him, so he must rule over it so it would not win.

Sadly, Cain ignored God’s counsel and he went on to take his anger out on his brother, killing Abel with a rock.

Sin will try to do the same kinds of things to you and me.

It will try to overtake us, leading us further and further away from God, with the ultimate goal of destroying us and tearing us away from Him for eternity.

It’s up to us to rule over (master) sin, so it does not master (rule over) us.

God has equipped us and given us everything we need to be able to do this. And He has given us much instruction about this, including this direct, simple verse.

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Let us not be like Cain, falling prey to temptation and the sin that ensnares us, but willing to heed God’s counsel, that we might be pleasing to God, ruling over our sin before it rules over us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-20-21

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

There is something about submitting to God that changes our lives.

And on the flip side, in order to wholly submit to Him, we need to have reached a place in our lives where we have recognized His sovereignty, and we understand that His ways are higher than ours.

As the verse above says, if we submit to God, we will have no trouble resisting temptation.

But it goes much deeper than that.

You see, if we submit to God, our lives will take on a new direction. Why? Because our perspective changes.

We no longer live solely to please ourselves. We now give Him preferential eminence and put Him first in everything that we do, including the choices we make each day.

This comes with maturity in Christ.

Through submitting to Him we will be humbled. And it’s that humility that allows us to put ourselves aside and put Him first. Our pride eventually melts away, becoming a distant memory.

This is something that impacts every aspect of our lives. It’s not just about respecting Him or giving Him reverence. It spills over onto everything we do and everything we say.

So, if you’re struggling in certain areas of your life, consider submitting wholly to Him. It will put you on the right track in your walk with Him. And that will help everything else to eventually fall into place as well.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-8-20

James 4:1-3 (NKJV) 1 Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? 2 You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

As James addressed fellow believers, and the things he was seeing taking place among them, he felt it necessary to address the conflict that was happening among some of them.

James had observed that there was much strife between some people in the body of Christ, and he saw by the Holy Spirit exactly what it was that caused it; pride, and a lack of true submission to God.

Pride will cause us to do so many things that do nothing more than promote chaos in our lives. That chaos may not necessarily be evident outwardly in our lives, but it is definitely there inwardly!

In addition to chaos, pride will also cause us to covet and lust after what others have. And as believers, we will even pray and ask God for those very same things.

Because we ask for these things amiss, out of wrong motives, we will not receive them by God’s hand. He will deny our requests.

If we are carnal in our thoughts and our methods, we may just push through and take action to obtain what we are requesting by natural means, ignoring God’s leading and the fact that He is not answering our prayers. This is where we often get ourselves into trouble.

So, if we have been praying and asking God for something, whether a material item or otherwise, and we are not getting whatever it is that we’re asking for, we may very well need to examine our motives.

Are they pure? Do they serve God, or do they serve our own desires?

These are good questions that will teach us a lot about ourselves.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-23-17

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Submission; that’s a wonderful word we all love to hear, right?

Not usually. It takes us time to learn how to submit. It takes us a bit of time to learn who to submit to. And it takes time and effort to walk in and remain in submission.

Our mind automatically wants to do its own thing. It wars against the things of God. It wants to be free to say and do whatever it wants.

Romans 8:7-8 (NKJV) 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

When we are walking in the flesh, we are not pleasing God. We are pleasing ourselves. Submitting to God means letting His Spirit dwell in us and guide our heart and our mind. This changes the way we think and the way we do things.

One of the things we can be certain about, when it comes to submitting, is learning that if God is asking us to do something then we can surely know that it’s going to turn out good, whether we fully understand it or not.

How do we tell if it is God or just our minds speaking to us?

Whatever it is that God asks us to do, it will always go along with His word. He won’t ask us to do something that goes against His truth spoken in the Holy Bible.

Don’t hesitate to do things the way God is asking us to do them. We may not understand them at first, but that is where our faith will have to kick in.

Submitting to God may sometimes cause us to think and feel like we don’t know what we are doing, because usually we have never done it this way before. It is a very humbling experience.

1 Peter 5:6 (NKJV) 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time…

Our question today is this: Are we ready to humble ourselves, let go and submit everything to Him? Are we ready to trust Him in His “due time?”

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-18-17

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Is someone you know having trouble doing the right thing, resisting sin and temptation?

How about you? Are you having trouble resisting the devil and living a righteous lifestyle?

Why is that? Why do some people just seem to have so much trouble turning away from evil and doing right?

It’s all about submission. It’s about who we submit ourselves to.

If we submit to God, our lives will reflect that, and we will live a life that’s a reflection of God’s nature.

This doesn’t mean that our lives will be perfect, or that we will never make mistakes or make bad choices. But the big picture will show people who know us that God is alive in us and moving in our lives.

If, however, our lives are submitted to the devil, they will reflect that. Attitudes will be poor. Actions will be ungodly. Fruit, if there is any, will be rotten. So it’s critical that we make sure we are submitted to God.

Submission requires humility. Humility can be tough for us sometimes, because it means that we have to admit that we are wrong and that we need help. Some people wrestle with this more than others. But we all need help in this area at one point or another.

So let’s determine in our hearts today to humble ourselves and submit ourselves to God, so we can resist the devil. And as we do this, he will flee from us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-20-16

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

We had a reader write to us, asking about how to yield to God and what it means to do so. We thought this would make a great topic for today’s teaching, so here it is 🙂

Yielding to God is something that encompasses your entire life, not just when someone is praying for you or laying hands on you.

Yielding to God means that we submit to Him in every aspect of our lives. We reach a place where we understand that our lives are not our own, but belong to Him fully.

The choices and decisions we make are His. The words we speak are His. The thoughts we think are His. Everything we do is about Him.

This doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time and effort on our part, to let God teach us how to submit to Him in everything.

As we learn and grow, it becomes second nature and we don’t have to think about it much any longer. We’ll eventually find ourselves considering God in everything we do and every choice or decision we make. And as we do this, our trust and faith in Him grows tremendously.

It’s actually something that’s hard to describe. And it’s not like we suddenly cross a line and reach that goal. It just happens over time. And one day we realize that we’re not the same person any longer. We have a new purpose and new drive in our life. It’s no longer all about us.

So keep moving forward. Keep pressing in to Him. Keep letting Him grow your faith and your trust. You’re on an incredible journey and the final destination is Him!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-15-13

James 4:7 (NKJV) Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

In everything about our lives, God has given us the freedom to choose.

We have the privilege of choosing right or wrong. We have the privilege of choosing to follow God’s leading for our lives or not.

We have the freedom to choose how we spend our time. We have the freedom to choose how we spend our money.

So the question today is this: Are we honoring God with our decisions and our choices?

Some things are so basic and pretty easy to figure out. But some choices are a little tougher. Sometimes we have to seriously stop and ask God “which choice will please you?”.

Much of what we decide is related directly to where we’re at in our walk with God. The depth of our relationship with Him will greatly effect the choices we make.

Sometimes what might seem like the most straight forward decision to make can be much more intricate when we seriously consider how God would want us to carry something out. Despite the fact that common sense plays a huge part in a lot of our decisions, sometimes God’s “logic” will fly in the face of human logic.

This might seem to be confusing at first, but as we press into God and submit ourselves to Him, and learn His ways and what He wants for our lives, it will begin to become more clear. And as each decision or choice comes along, it will become easier and easier for us to make “God” decisions versus “good” decisions.
