Category: Worrying

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-13-24

Matthew 6:34 (NKJV) 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Learning how to live in the now is important for a believer.

If we could focus on today and not get all distracted with the what ifs of tomorrow we would get more things done. And in doing so we would not even need to think about tomorrow.

Far too many children of God spend way too much time worrying. We are all similar in this area. And God is tapping us on the shoulder, telling us to get focused.

How can we focus on the thing we should be focusing on if we have the distractions of our worries pulling on us?

When I was young I would run the relay on the track team. I was usually the last one to take hold of the baton and run it to the finish line.

Do you think I was focusing on the others getting it to me?

Absolutely not. I was intently focused on my part of the race. And when that baton hit my hand, I would take off running. And nothing, nothing would get in my way. All I saw was the ribbon that I would run through. That was my focus.

It’s the same with every day that we live.

Pick that thing you need to get done and stay focused on it until you finish. Then move onto the next thing within that day.

Are we supposed to be thinking about what we will get done tomorrow? No. We are not, unless we are completely finished with today’s goal.

It’s not hard to do, unless our focus needs more focus. Then it will seem impossible and very chaotic. We will be running in circles all day if we do not focus on that one goal.

What does worrying about tomorrow do to us?

It takes our mind off of what we need to do today. This is something we all need to learn; that if we follow this step we will reach our goals every day, hence relieving our stress and anxiety.

Philippians 4:6 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God…

Amen!

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-5-23

Matthew 6:25 (NKJV) 25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

How much worrying do we do about things we have no control over?

Is it our children? The school they attend? The friends they choose? Their place of work as they get older? Their social life?

Is it our job/work? The boss’s attitude? Our work performance? Will we ever get a raise or move up the ladder?

Is it our finances? Will we ever have enough money to save? Will we ever be able to get the things we need or want? Will we ever be able to have enough to help others in need?

Is it our spouse we worry about? Are they happy? Are they in poor health? Are they lost? Are they ever going to take an interest in important things?

Do we spend time worrying about everyone else’s problems, trying to figure out how we might be able to help fix them?

Is it our country/government? Are we worrying about the state it is in and the current problems it may be experiencing?

Let’s be clear. Not worrying doesn’t mean we lack compassion or that we don’t care about things.

But there is a balance in it all.

For God to bring balance in this we must first recognize within ourselves what it is we spend time worrying about.

If we want to stop this obsessive worrying about the same things over and over, we must first see what it is doing to us and our relationship with God.

The biggest step we will need to take is learning to lay our worries down and not go back to pick them up.

1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV) 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

God can only work this out in us when we cast them over for good.

That means all of them. Not just the pieces that we think we can’t handle, but all the things that bring worry to us.

Give them to Him!

Everyone tends to worry about one thing or another. However, we serve a Lord who is the same, yesterday, today and forever!

He will guide us if we truly want to stop worrying.

Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV) 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

When we learn to catch ourselves and turn off the worrying, our prayers and our focus will be in a more productive place.

We will be able to enjoy each day as we fully trust God with the things that would otherwise cause us stress. Amen.

Bible Verse of the Day – 6-6-22

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Worry, Fear, Stress, Anxiety.

These are all things that we as humans struggle with when things get tough or unsure.

Some wrestle with these more than others. Our personality can play a big part in how much we struggle with any of them.

But our walk with God, our faith in Him and how much we trust Him can also have a major impact on whether or not we fight with any of them, or even to what degree it might happen.

Everyone is in a different place in their walk with God. We all deal with different obstacles when it comes to growing and maturing.

The import thing, though, is that we do work at it.

A strong, secure relationship with our Father is our best defense against anxiety, fear, stress and worrying.

As we grow and mature as a believer, we will come to understand what Jesus said in Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble”.

Does this mean that our worries just magically melt away? Of course not.

But it does mean that as we spiritually mature, we will spend less and less time fretting and worrying, and more time seeking God and His solutions to our problems.

And as we do that, worrying will indeed become less a part of our life than we could have ever imagined.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-23-22

Matthew 6:25 (NKJV) 25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

As I was browsing through various verses today, I found three different references to worrying that were all spoken by Jesus, and all very close together in the same chapter.

As I read through each of them, it became abundantly clear to me that Jesus was trying to drive home a very important point to those who were listening to Him speak at that moment.

What point? Do not worry. It’s a waste of our precious time here on earth.

In the verse above, Jesus tells us not to worry about what we will eat, drink or wear.

Wait. What?

Aren’t these the things we tend to worry about the most? After all, we need food, drink and clothing. They are the most basic essentials for survival.

Then, in verse 31, He says it again, telling us, “Do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?”.

It would seem like this is a pretty important point if He is trying so hard to drive it home, right?

Then, in verse 34 He says this; “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”.

Now, it might seem from these 3 pieces of scripture that Jesus is simply telling us that we shouldn’t worry. And while it’s true that He is telling us not to worry, it’s important that we understand why He’s saying this.

To figure that out, we need to go back to verse 24.

Matthew 6:24 (NKJV) 24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

You see, once we put it into its proper context, we understand that Jesus is referring to the fact that too many people spend their lives chasing, and attempting to amass wealth; vast amounts of riches.

And that’s His point. Do what is necessary to live and fulfill your basic needs, but don’t waste your life away spending your time and effort trying to amass great wealth while allowing that pursuit to come before your relationship with God.

Serve God, not mammon (riches).

Serving money will cause us to become its slave. Whereas serving God will set us free.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-22-21

Matthew 6:34 (NKJV) 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

I love that Jesus tells us not to worry.

I think we all struggle with worrying at one time or another, no matter how hard we try not to. We have to be reminded every so often that God has our back.

He has it in the morning.

He has it in the afternoon.

He has it in the evening.

He has it while we sleep.

God has our back when no one else will stand up for or with us. God has it when we have been turned down for a position we thought we were going to get.

He stands with us on our job when everyone around us looks down at us.

God has our back when we lose someone we love. And He has it when we have nowhere to turn.

If you or someone you know needs to hear this today, lift up your eyes to Him and shout, “I praise YOU Father!”.

He has you, and you are not to worry.

Take one foot, put it in front of the other, and keep walking. He will guide your steps.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-20-21

Psalm 63:6-7 (NKJV) 6 When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. 7 Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.

What are we meditating on today?

Are we so worried that we don’t have any room in our heart or minds to meditate on God or on the pure things, the good things in that day?

Worry and fretting is a tactic the enemy will use against us to stop us in our tracks. We will not move forward if we are constantly worrying and fretting over things, or situations.

We will be in a constant battle, trying to find answers to comfort ourselves in our situation and ease the fear within us.

When our relationship with God is tight, we will learn over time that if there is something wrong and we need more understanding, or if we need to do something about a situation we are facing, we will often know in advance that it was coming and that God has a plan to take care of it.

But, if we allow worry to distract us, it will not allow us to know the plan and we will grow more and more fearful, worried and frustrated.

Remember that it is up to us to pick and choose what or Who we want to meditate on, to know where our help comes from and to rejoice in Him! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-21-20

Psalm 23:1-3 (NKJV) 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

If the Lord is our shepherd, you better know He is going to care for us!

He is going to teach us to rest, through trusting His leading. He will keep us calm in the times of trial. He will keep us from wanting. He will protect and restore our life.

I have never had such a beautiful, more stable life as I have since I finally realized that worrying is wrong. It took me some time. I will admit it. But I get it now.

Worrying is not right, people!

The world worries, and boy can we feel it. But we are not of the world. Amen.

John 15:19 (NKJV) 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

We cannot keep participating in such behavior if we want to spread our wings and fly, so to speak.

I had to learn to stop worrying. It’s not easy. But just take a look at these verses and ask yourself, is He your shepherd?

If you answer “YES”, then look at what He says He will do for you if He is your Lord and your Shepherd. We need to prove our “yes” by not worrying.

You shall not want.

You will lie down in green pastures.

He will lead you by still waters.

He will restore your soul.

He will lead you in the paths of righteousness, for His name’s sake.

Take it one day at a time and remind yourself, no more worrying. He’s basically saying,” I’ve got you!”

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-6-18

Matthew 6:34 (NKJV) 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Tomorrow. It’s a strange thing for sure.

Most of us live our lives looking forward to tomorrow. We plan for tomorrow. We save up for tomorrow. We worry about tomorrow.

But not a single one of us is even guaranteed that we will have a tomorrow. So, God wants us to learn to balance our tomorrows with our todays.

He wants us to learn to live in today, being thankful for the blessings we have, as we’re looking toward tomorrow expectantly, but without putting all of our hopes in tomorrow.

We live in the here and now. We wake each morning with a fresh day ahead of us. We literally don’t know what each day will bring.

Oh, we may think we know. But it’s not really in our hands to determine the outcome as much as we think it is.

James 4:13-14 (NKJV) 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

You see, sometimes things come along that we had no idea would happen. And if we’re not careful, our whole world can come crashing down around us because our hopes were placed so strongly in tomorrow that we forgot to live today.

We forgot to be thankful. We forgot to learn how to be content. We forgot to put God first in everything that we do. And our tomorrow became our sole focal point.

God wants us to change this up. He wants us to put our hope in Him, not in what we’re looking forward to tomorrow. He wants us to be thankful and content with what He has blessed us with today.

Yes, we should be diligent with what He has blessed us with. We should handle it carefully and endeavor to do with it what He shows us to do, including making sure we follow any strategies He has shown us to follow.

But these things should never cause us to be so focused on tomorrow that we’re shattered when something comes along that changes what our tomorrow looks like.

We can’t control tomorrow, even though we sometimes like to think we can. Our desire to control everything has to surrender to our trust in God. Our controlling nature must bow to the spirit of God and let Him lead us.

For people who like to be in charge (in control), this is usually a tough change. But it’s a necessity if we want to grow and mature as believers and learn to walk by faith, and not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

So, let’s let God teach us how to stop worrying about tomorrow. Today has enough things to tend to. We can tend to tomorrow when tomorrow arrives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-27-18

Matthew 6:27 (NKJV) 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

We teach about worrying pretty frequently. Why? Because understanding this is a critical component of our walk with God.

As we’ve walked through various trials over the years, God has shown us what worrying does, and what it is.

First, worrying wastes precious time and energy. It’s also bad for our health, causing high blood pressure, stress, headaches and numerous other ill benefits.

More importantly, though, worrying is an outward sign of inward doubting. And that doubting stems from not having complete trust in God and His ability to care for us.

Matthew 6:26 (NKJV) 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Some might say that telling people that worrying shows a lack of faith is too harsh. But even Jesus taught that worrying shows a lack of faith in our heavenly Father, and His ability to care for us.

Matthew 6:30 (NKJV) 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

So it would benefit us greatly if we would heed His words and learn to trust God when storms and trials come our way.

Is it easy? No. Especially not at first. But as we begin to trust Him with little things, then we can learn to trust Him with bigger things. And before we know it, we will find ourselves pushing through some pretty tough seasons with barely a concern on our mind, because we know that He is ultimately in control.

So we encourage you today to trust Him in everything; the little things and the big things.

He will never, ever let you down.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-12-18

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV) 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Thank you, Lord, for your provision is always in the right timing and exactly what is needed.

Today as I reflect on the wonderful things God has done for us, I am reminded of how we really don’t have to worry about anything. Worrying wastes a lot of precious time.

When we worry, our mind gets caught up in the negative, the “what ifs”. It really takes away from thanking God for the things that He wants to do or has already done in our lives.

If we can thank God in times of trouble, famine, discomfort, bad reports, etc., we really do have an understanding of Who our Source is. Amen.

God will provide for us. That is not the question and we do not have to worry about that.

The question is, will we give Him a chance and begin to thank Him for His answer? Will we allow God to take the time that is needed? And during that time, will we continue to take the steps of obedience that God shows us individually, pertaining to each situation?

Start to thank Him today for His provision, and get things moving forward. Then take the steps He shows us, one day at a time. There is no time for worrying, only for thanking Him. Hallelujah!

Psalm 107:8 (NKJV) 8 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-23-18

Matthew 6:34 (NKJV) 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Have you ever stopped and thought about why people spend so much time worrying?

Why do we worry, you and me? What causes us to fret and waste time wondering what’s going to happen in certain situations? Why do we devote time and energy to speculating and contemplating the “what ifs”?

You see, the truth of the matter is that the vast majority of the things we worry about never come to pass. So, the time and energy we spent fretting was completely wasted.

Worrying accomplishes exactly nothing. Zero.

And, in reality, even if the things happen that we’re worrying about, they are rarely as bad as we might have imagined. And when everything is said and done, we always make it through in one way or another.

If we’re in God’s hands, like He teaches us that we are, we will always be taken care of, even if it’s not the way we had pictured it would be.

Worrying does absolutely nothing to help us.

Matthew 6:27 (NKJV) 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

So, when trials or hard times hit, instead of worrying as a first resort and trusting God as a last resort, let’s go to God first! We need to stick so close to Him that there’s not even a big enough gap between us and God for worries to squeeze their way in!

Trust God!

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
