Bible Verse of The Day – 1-12-24

Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV) 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

As we mentioned in Wednesday’s devotional, sometimes small details can make a big difference!

Sometimes those small details may not be obvious or easily spotted unless we have the right tools.

Good study Bibles can be super helpful when it comes to finding and digging deeper into these small nuggets of truth that often open whole new levels of understanding and revelation for us.

Let’s look at a huge nugget of understanding in the verse above that is also referenced in the New Testament (Matthew 1:23).

It is one word; Immanuel.

The verse above is a prophecy from Isaiah regarding the coming Messiah.

Isaiah proclaimed that a virgin would conceive and bear a Son, and His name shall be called Immanuel.

That doesn’t seem overly deep or meaningful until we dig a bit deeper.

The lights start to come on, so to speak, when we look more closely at the name, Immanuel.

Immanuel literally means, “God-with-us”.

Once we understand the enormity of this, we will begin to see some things in a whole new light.

It’s important that the Bible we use doesn’t translate this as “God is with us”. That is not the literal meaning of it.

“God with us” means that Jesus was literally God on earth, living, walking, and talking with the people.

When Jesus was here on earth, He was not a representative of God. He was God, with us.

Small changes in a translation, whether intentional or not, can make major differences in whether we learn the proper meaning of specific things.

And those things can seriously alter the doctrine that we learn and grow with.

Let’s be sure to allow God to show us His truth, and that we equip ourselves with the proper tools, that we may be “a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-10-24

Mark 14:13 (NKJV) 13 And He sent out two of His disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him.

It’s important to pay attention to the little things as we read and study God’s word.

Sometimes little details can give us greater insight into God’s word and a stronger faith in Him.

The verse above is an example of this.

Jesus instructed two of His disciples to go into the city and watch for a man carrying a pitcher of water.

Then He told them to follow that man.

Wait. Did you catch that?

Jesus told them to go into the city. That doesn’t seem like a big deal. But He then told them specifically to look for a man carrying a pitcher of water.

Now, that’s a serious detail that He could have known only if He was truly God in the flesh. It was purely prophetic.

But wait. Look at what He told them next.

He said that as they followed that man, he would lead them to a specific place.

Mark 14:14-15 (NKJV) 14 Wherever he goes in, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’ 15 Then he will show you a large upper room, furnished and prepared; there make ready for us.”

“He will show you a large upper room, furnished and prepared.”

Now I am fully blown away.

First, a man carrying a pitcher. Then, a room, fully furnished and prepared.

This is not something minor.

It may not begin to compare to Him dying for us on the cross. It doesn’t come close to the blood that He willingly spilled for mankind, to offer us forgiveness and redemption.

But consider the ramifications of these smaller details.

His disciples must have seen this and been in awe of Him as they lived and walked with Him daily. It could only strengthen their faith in Him as they saw these kinds of things repeated many times.

So, let’s look at ourselves.

How can we, as Children of God, not have incredible faith in Him when we begin to see and recognize details like these?

These kinds of revelations and understanding should help us move beyond the basics, so we begin to see God for who He is in a much deeper way.

Again, this is not necessarily a deep mystery of God. But it is significant enough that we should pay attention to it.

Let’s take the time necessary to study and discover God’s word in a most detailed manner. And watch Him grow us and transform us in ways that we might never have imagined could happen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-29-22

Galatians 4:4-5 (NKJV) 4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

God’s Son, Jesus Christ, was born of a woman.

Now, the woman who had birthed God’s Son was named Mary. Mary was a virgin.

We can see how miraculous this birth was.

Mary was God’s servant and she was honored to do what God asked of her; humble, and grateful to have been chosen.

She was not looking for people to praise her or lift her up in any way. She didn’t ask people to exalt her or even acknowledge her.

She did what she did because she loved God.

Luke 1:38 (NKJV) 38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Mary proclaimed that she was a maidservant of the Lord; a female domestic servant. And she chose to obey God.

Mary did it according to God’s word.

She never wanted to be looked at as someone special, to be lifted up or put on a pedestal. She humbly agreed to carry the Son of God according to His word.

Jesus said when I am lifted up…

John 12:32 (NKJV) 32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”

The only One who should be lifted up is Jesus Christ.

It’s when He is lifted up that He will draw all people to Himself, and they will be set free from their sin as they repent and put their faith in Him.

Let us lift Him up this day and every day, for He is our Redeemer and the Savior of this world!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-21-22

John 8:58 (NKJV) 58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

What does it mean when He says, “I AM”?

Abraham’s life had a specific beginning, however with Jesus, He was the ever-present One. He was with the Father before the world was formed.

John 17:5 (NKJV) 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

He is before all things. And in Him all things consist! Consist means, to hold or stand together.

He was the sustainer and uniting principle of the universe.

Hallelujah!

He is before the day. He was before the world was formed, and before the mountains were brought forth!

Colossians 1:17 (NKJV) 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

He is everything and in control of all history. His power is absolute! Nothing can change Him. He will be the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV) 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

He is the great I AM. Amen!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-27-22

Matthew 8:2-3 (NKJV) 2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

Jesus healed many people from a huge number of various diseases and conditions.

Perpetual bleeding, blindness, deafness, physical deformities, demon possession, seizures, and even leprosy, as in the scripture above.

There were many other sicknesses and diseases that he healed people from. These were just some examples.

Each of these people had their own unique situations that they were dealing with.

Some of them were healed with a simple word or phrase spoken from the mouth of Jesus. Others required the person (or people) to take certain steps, following the instructions that Jesus gave them.

In the example above with the leper, Jesus physically touched this man. And in that act, there is something significant that took place aside from the fact that the man was healed.

Based on Mosaic law (The Law), nobody was allowed to touch a leper. Doing so made you “unclean” (defiled) by the standards of The Law.

When Jesus touched the leper, He displayed authority over the disease. He didn’t fear it, and He didn’t fear the reaction of the people who saw this take place.

Many were afraid of touching a leper out of fear of becoming infected with leprosy themselves.

Take note, though, that when Jesus touched the leper, not only did He not become infected, but the leper was no longer infected either. The touch of Jesus, and the faith of the man with leprosy, healed him immediately.

Jesus was more than just a man with a gift to teach. He was more than a rabbi. He was more than a prophet, even though He was all of these and more.

He was God in human skin. He was Immanuel, God with us (Matthew 1:23).

He had absolute authority over everything, including sickness, death, wind and waves (Mark 4:41), demonic spirits and so much more.

So, if we are His, what do we have to fear?

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-23-20

John 8:58 (NKJV) 58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

Jesus had a way of shaking things up. He did and said things that were so spiritually deep that people had trouble comprehending them.

And the religious leaders of His time literally wanted to kill Him because of some of these things that He said.

Of all the things Jesus said, this particular one is a favorite of mine for a couple reasons.

First, because it really set things on fire with the pharisees!

Second, because it reveals some things about Jesus that go really, really deep.

Jesus came here as a human being. He lived in a flesh and bone body, just like you and I. But what He said and did could only be done by God himself.

John 8:58, the verse above, ties in perfectly with John 1:1, proving the deity of Jesus, as well as confirming His eternal existence as part of the triune Godhead (The Trinity).

Think about it. In the verse above, Jesus boldly proclaimed that He was Yahweh, the Lord of the Old Testament, and the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Talk about stirring things up!

The thing is that Jesus didn’t say this necessarily to stir the pot. He said it to proclaim who He was, so people would see Him as more than just the son of Joseph the carpenter.

He wanted people to get understanding and see God moving in their midst. And He didn’t care if it set the religious leaders on their heads, so to speak.

Think about what this means for you and me. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is God, who chose to come to earth in human form, see things through eyes like ours, feel the things that we feel, and then give His life for us, to buy our redemption by His blood.

That is truly incredible and beyond comprehension for our human minds.

It is also incredibly reassuring for all of us, knowing the lengths that God went to, and the sacrifices He was willing to make, to save us.

So, the next time your walk with God begins to get that ho-hum feeling, remember; Immanuel, God with us.

That single concept right there is enough to stir us up and bring us back to the reality of the incredible God we serve.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-21-15

1 John 2:23 (NKJV) 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

Have you ever wondered how to tell if a denomination or a religion other than Christianity is truly of God?

The scripture above contains the answer to any questions you might have.

The ultimate test is to check whether they believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and whether He came to earth as God in the flesh.

Many will say He was a prophet. Some will say He was a creation of God, but not God in the flesh, nor equal to God.

Some will say that they believe Jesus existed, but He was just another historic figure. And the list of these examples can go on and on.

But if they can’t tell you that Jesus was Immanuel, God with us, then they are deceiving themselves and everyone else that they try to teach their doctrine to.

So the next time someone hands you a pamphlet about their church or tries to tell you how their organization has a corner on the truth, just ask them who they believe Jesus Christ was.

If they can’t outright say that Jesus was God in the flesh and that He lived a sinless life and now sits at the right hand of the Father, then they are false teachers, spreading heresy. Turn and walk away from them. Don’t so much as entertain their teachings in your thoughts for one second.

John 14:6 (NKJV) 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-4-14

John 10:30 (NKJV) I and My Father are one.”

Know that God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, are ONE.

God wants us to honor His Son just as we would honor Him, not looking at Jesus Christ as being any less than Jehovah, El Shaddai, and the Alpha & Omega!

John 5:23 (NKJV) 23 “that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

God takes this to heart about His Son. In other words, if we look upon Jesus as being anyone other than God in the flesh, we don’t know the truth and if we do not know the truth we are not completely free.

John 8:32 (NKJV) 32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

The truth is, Jesus Christ and the Father are ONE!!

If we read and learn about Jesus and the things He did on this earth, we’ll see that He demonstrated His Father’s heart. He walked in obedience. He walked in love and He sacrificed His life for us.

John 8:19 (NKJV) Then they said to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.”

God is saying today, honor My Son, Jesus Christ. Know Him and follow His teachings. He and I are ONE! Amen.

Bible verse of The Day – 4-2-14

John 1:1 (NKJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

This might be a confusing verse to some, especially for those who are new to the family of God.

You might look at this and say “what’s all this stuff about the Word?”.

Let me take a minute to explain.

“The Word” is one of the names given to Jesus Christ in scripture. Jesus had many different “names” throughout the Bible, running from the Old testament (in prophecies), all the way through the end of the New Testament.

We hear Him called the Son of man, the Son of God, the Lamb of God, the Lamb who was slain, the Bright and Morning Star, and a host of others.

Jesus was also referred to as The Word, or the Word of God.

Revelation 19:13 (NKJV) He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

What’s so awesome about the verse above, in John 1:1, is that this verse shows us that Jesus was there in the beginning, right along with God the Father, at the creation of all that we see!

Jesus was a participant in the creation, not just an observer!

So if anyone ever tries to tell you that Jesus was simply created by God or that He was less than “God with us”, just remember that He was there in the beginning and all things were made through Him!

John 1:3 (NKJV) All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

Rest today, knowing that our Savior was there in the beginning.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-22-13

(John 5:18 NKJV)  Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.

Jesus and God are considered equal, the SAME; they are ONE!

This is the difference between heaven and hell, right here. If we can accept this truth, this is our way into Heaven. We have to believe that Jesus is who He says He is, the Son of God, and that they are equal. If we look at Jesus as being any less than God in the flesh, then we truly don’t understand.

(John 14:6 NKJV)  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. We cannot get to God unless we go through His Son, Jesus Christ.

We can live the life of doing all wonderful and good things for people but as hard as it is to swallow, we must know that this will not get us into Heaven.

If we are asking God for things but not going through His Son, He can not hear us. It is His Son that makes the way for communication between us and God. It is His blood, His pureness that can reach and touch the heart and ears of the Father.

This is very to the point and some may not understand at first because of all the different teachings and denominations out there.

If we take all we have been taught and surrender ourselves and our understanding to God, in the name of Jesus Christ His Son, His equal, He will bring understanding and wisdom to help us grasp such truth, regardless of what we might have been taught previously.

(1 John 5:12 NKJV)  He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Get life today, through the Son, Jesus Christ!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-9-13

(Hebrews 2:9 NKJV)  But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.

For many years I wondered about this verse and what was meant by the statement that Jesus “was made a little lower than the angels”.

Not only did I wonder about it, but it kind of bothered me because it didn’t seem to fit in with the fact that Jesus was there in the beginning and was the co-creator of the heavens, the earth and everything on the earth, including humans.

The way I saw this verse, it made it seem like Jesus was below the angels, which are simply created beings, used by God for service. Where was the deity of Christ in this verse?

I pondered on this for quite some time, wondering what it was really saying. And then one day it was like God removed the veil for me and showed me exactly what it meant. So I want to share that with you today.

God showed me that Jesus was, in fact, there in the beginning. He was the co-creator of all we see, including us. Remember that the Word says in Genesis “let us make man in our image”. This is clearly a plural statement, using “us” instead of me or my.

And the reason that Jesus was said to have been a little lower than the angels is because he chose to become lower than the angels, in human form, for a specific period of time while He walked here on the earth. He became flesh and bone so He could walk among us, experience everything that we feel and, ultimately, die for us.

This is truth. This is fact. This is the God we serve. He leaves nothing undone.

He is the Alpha, the Omega… the beginning and the end. Amen.
