Category: Doing God’s Will

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-19-22

Psalm 40:8 (NKJV) 8 I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.”

Delight to do His will.

How many today can say this, like David did, and really mean it?

It’s easy when we don’t feel the pressure of things around us making it hard. But when push comes to shove, and people, circumstances, and our own flesh pull on us, there’s nothing easy about it.

As believers, we can be truthful with each other and admit that it’s hard.

The Father’s will; what is His will?

To be disciplined enough to obey His word. Living in this world we have to work hard at obeying what God tells us to do. We have to keep on that path of righteous living.

Romans 7:15 (NKJV) 15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.

Paul admits it in Romans when he says, the very thing I want to do I don’t and the thing I don’t want to do, I do.

Why?

Because of the pressure on our emotions at times. It wears on us. We can get weary.

But Praise be to God, that He is faithful to sustain us and keep us pressing forward.

Do our best and let God be our strong hand, and help us with that which we can’t.

Psalm 136:12 (NKJV) 12 With a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, For His mercy endures forever…

Bible Verse of the Day – 3-28-22

John 4:34 (NKJV) 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.

Many of the things that Jesus said and taught really messed with the heads of those who heard Him.

Even His disciples had a hard time wrapping their human minds around His words. And this verse above is another example of that.

The disciples wrestled with their human thinking on many, many occasions. They wrestled with understanding things of a spiritual nature.

As they spent time with Jesus, they saw that He didn’t always take time to eat meals when they did. He would often go to a place of solitude and not even bother eating while He prayed and sought the Father.

They, being purely human, grew concerned about the welfare of Jesus since they knew that He didn’t eat as frequently as they did.

So, when they inquired of Jesus about this, He answered them. And His answer caused them to scratch their heads and wonder what He was talking about.

Jesus was not of this world. He was God in the flesh, God and man rolled into one. He ate natural food, but it wasn’t what “made Him tick”, so to speak.

He thrived on doing the will of the Father. That’s what satisfied Him and fulfilled Him.

That’s what fed Him.

As we grow and mature in our relationship with God, our appetite should also lean less toward natural food and more toward “food of which others do not know”.

John 4:32 (NKJV) 32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.”

This will usually happen without us even noticing it at first, a little at a time.

And though natural food is good, food of which others do not know is much better!

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-8-21

Luke 22:42 (NKJV) 42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

Nevertheless not My will, but Yours be done.

Those words, spoken by Jesus during the final hours leading up to His crucifixion, summed up His whole life’s purpose here on earth; to do the will of the Father.

As followers of Christ, this should be our heart’s cry; that His will would be done in our lives, not ours.

It’s important for us to understand, though, that this comes at a cost to us.

Surrendering in this manner means that our lives are not our own.

The choices we make will need to be made by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, not by our own preferences or by our emotions. That’s the difference between living for ourselves and living a life that is surrendered to God.

When we surrender to Him, He will guide each and every step we take. We still have the free will to choose whether to follow or not, but if we do follow, we need to do so knowing that there will sometimes be some uncomfortable situations that we must walk through.

The best part, though, is that He will give us exactly what we need to walk through those required steps.

That may not necessarily remove the sting or the pain, but it does guarantee that our lives will bring glory and honor to Him, which should be the purpose of every day and every minute that we live.

The right path is not always the easy path. But that path is the one that will keep us closest to His will and His heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-14-21

Mark 14:36 (NKJV) 36 And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

As a young believer, I remember reading this and being struck by the fact that Jesus set Himself and His will aside and gave preference to His Father’s will in this situation.

This was a big deal, because it wasn’t a minor decision or choice. That choice cost Him His life.

Today, over 40 years later, I am still in awe at this. And I try to use this as my model for obedience to my Father in heaven.

I have never been in a situation where my obedience would cost me my life. But I try to live out my walk with God as though it may someday come to that. And it may very well as we surge ahead in this season we are walking out. Only God knows.

I frequently try to picture in my mind what it must have been like for Jesus, as He literally wrestled with His flesh, determined to make the right choice and obey His Father.

And, as we all know, in the end He did the right thing. He made the hard choice. He walked it out, ending with His death on the brutal Roman cross of shame.

But that choice gave each of us the opportunity for new life in Him; a life of redemption and forgiveness, free from the consequences of our sinful past.

Thank you, Jesus, for your obedience. Thank you for being willing to go all the way to the finish line, and for not backing down when the rubber met the road.

Let us each have the conviction and the courage to do the same in our day-to-day lives, taking our faith seriously, as it should be.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-21-20

Luke 23:34 (NKJV) 34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And they divided His garments and cast lots.

It’s hard to grasp this level of forgiveness.

We may ask today if we have to forgive people that have hurt us; People that have abused us, stolen from us, and made things hard for us.

Do we have to forgive them like Jesus did? After all, He was the Son of God, so He’s supposed to do this, right?

I really thought as a child that Jesus did what He did simply because He was the Son of God, and it was expected of Him.

To me, coming from a large family, it was kind of like how certain things were expected of my older siblings just because they were older. Us younger ones could get away with the things that the older ones couldn’t because less was expected of us.

I thought It came easy to Jesus, being God’s Son. But I’ve learned over the years that He did what He did because of discipline and denying His own will.

He had discipline within Himself, and help from the Holy Spirit to keep that level of discipline alive.

You and I have that same help. The power and might from God, through the Holy Spirit, helps us to walk in discipline.

It’s the discipline of our heart wanting to do the right thing that allows the Holy Spirit to move in us.

The thing I had to learn is that my will plays an important role in all of this. It has to want to be disciplined.

Jesus’ forgiveness for these people at such a level as this came from His will to be disciplined, to be lined up with His Father’s will. His heart’s desire was to do only what His Father wanted Him to do.

Luke 22:42 (NKJV) 42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

When we will to do right, to put God’s wants before our own, this is the result we get.

And when we have a heart that wants what is best, no matter what people have done to us or against us, forgiveness will be there!

Some of us today are bound up and miserable because of unforgiveness in our hearts. It’s killing us.

In this situation, our will is not willing to do what is right.

Make a statement today, through discipline. Tell your will “it will obey” and be willing to let go and forgive. Hold no memories of what was done to us.

Jesus, even though He died on that cross, was set free. He rose on the third day and was alive again!

Today is like our very own third day if we will let this unforgiveness go. We will come alive! Our heart will beat again, and the bonds of unforgiveness will be broken.

Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-31-19

Psalm 40:8 (NKJV) 8 I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.”

To delight in His will is a whole new ball game, so to speak.

This means that we put our ways aside and we do things His way, in His timing, and with the right attitude.

Some may not like what God has for us to do. But God knows us better than we know ourselves, and His will may be more satisfying than anything we may conjure up on our own.

If only we would just trust Him and stay at our post long enough to see it through, we would learn that His will for us is better than we could have imagined. It is much more fulfilling, satisfying and complete.

Delight in His will for us today and enjoy the journey! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-18-19

1 Peter 3:17 (NKJV) 17 For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

If it is the will of God. This is a huge statement.

Many people suffer and it’s not the will of God. God is not in it nor near it. We are suffering because of things we have done or said. We are suffering because of wrong choices. We may even be suffering because of false prophecies or words that were spoken over us. Sometimes we suffer due to things other people have done to us.

This verse says, “if it is the will of God”. Sometimes, as hard as it is, we will suffer for things and it is because of the stance we take for our Lord Jesus Christ. It will be for doing good instead of indulging in the bad.

But, be encouraged today that God is saying, “it is better”! This means that we are doing good, following Him. And because of this, people may lash out at us in anger.

Maybe they are jealous or envious of us. Maybe they are spreading lies, etc. Whatever it may be, If we are doing good, we need to keep it up.

Don’t let this behavior taint us. Don’t let it cause us to turn back or back down because of the heat of it. Remember what God says. “It is better! “

What does better mean? It means more excellently or more effectively.

So let us continue to be BETTER. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-5-13

(1 Corinthians 2:12 NKJV)  Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

There have been times that God has promised me things and He has brought them in, but I often hear these words right before the breakthrough comes…”Stay close to me.”

Why would God say to stay close to Him, when His word says that when we receive Him as our personal Lord and Savior that His Spirit lives in us? This was a question I would ponder often.

What I have learned over the years is that even though God, through the blood of Jesus, lives in us upon receiving salvation, we still play an important part in working with Him to keep ourselves close.

You see, God’s Spirit is in us, but He doesn’t always have the freedom to lead, guide or give advice. It is up to us to let Him do this.

God gives us a free will and we have to be the ones to remain close to Him. Staying close simply means always listening and watching, staying alert to Him, giving Him the freedom to help at all times, guide at all times and walk us through everyday stuff at all times… not just when we get in trouble or have a bad report. He wants us to be aware of Him at ALL times.

Stay close to God and let Him birth His will in us, bringing it to pass as we walk hand in hand with Him. Oh how glorious it is taking steps with the Omnipresent, Omnipotent Jehovah, the Alpha & Omega!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-28-12

(Matthew 26:41 NKJV)  “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Making choices to do what is right is going to take getting our spirit to line up with God’s Word and His Spirit.

How do we get our spirit lined up with Him? The Bible teaches us all about God. Every scripture we take in will feed our spirit with good wisdom and knowledge to help us make the right decisions.

Our flesh will fight against this but we have the authority in Christ to stop the fight.

If you feel like you are always battling with the flesh about things that you know you shouldn’t be doing, then it’s time for you to stop the battle and command the desires of your flesh to submit to the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name.

Say no to the flesh and its weakness and say YES to God!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-14-12

(Colossians 3:23 NKJV)  And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men…

I love this verse! This is a great reminder for each and every one of us to do everything we do to the best of our ability and with passion.

God wants us to do things as though we are doing them directly for him. It doesn’t matter if we’re at work or at home, whether we’re running a machine in a factory, filing paperwork in an office, mowing our lawn at home, cleaning our house or whatever else we might be doing.

God wants us to do it as though we are doing it for Him. Why? Because we are doing it for Him!

We are His hands and feet here on earth. We are the light of the world. We might be the only “Jesus” some people get to see. We might be the only light shining in a dark place. So we need to make sure our light doesn’t get dimmed by doing something half-heartedly, leaving a bad impression of God for someone else to remember.

God love us and wants His light to shine through us, so let’s make sure it shines as brightly as it can!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-7-12

(Mat 5:8 NKJV)  Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.

The pure in heart…what does that mean? How do we become “pure in heart” in God’s eyes?

There are two aspects to this. There is the spiritual side, the things that aren’t tangible. And there is the natural side, the things that are tangible.

I will try to keep this brief, so please bear with me as we walk through this together.

When we become followers of Christ, when we accept Him in faith as our savior, we become pure in heart (in a spiritual sense) simply because we’re washed in the blood of Jesus.

But in the natural, we can still be very impure in our hearts. This is where we need God to help us clean ourselves up. This is where it takes God’s spirit, God’s teaching and God’s correction to help us see the things in our lives that need to be changed, so we become pure in heart in a natural sense.

So what does this mean, and how do we do it?

We do it one little step at a time! It starts with little things, like maybe watching what comes out of our mouths. God helps us clean up our language and the way we talk. This would include things like swearing, gossiping, etc.

Then He might show us something else that He wants to help us with, like the things that we take in with our eyes and our ears. Movies, TV & Music play a huge part in our lives these days. TV and movies are no longer family-friendly and most of it isn’t God-friendly.

I know these are touchy subjects with a lot of people, but the impact that these things have on our lives is incredibly huge. And many of us don’t fully realize how big the impact is. We also don’t realize what we’re subjecting ourselves to.

Now think about this and take this very seriously, because it’s vital to us becoming pure in heart! If we have accepted Christ as our savior, this means that we have the Holy Spirit (God’s Spirit) living in us. He is with us everywhere we go. He sees everything we see and He hears everything we hear.

So we need to understand fully that if we watch a movie or a TV show with immoral images, we’re subjecting God to this. If we hear or listen to things in a movie, a TV show or in music that are contrary to God’s word or are not pleasing to God, we are subjecting God to it too.

Once we really start to get understanding in this, and we truly want to please God, we will start being more careful about what we watch and what we listen to.

Now don’t take this wrong. We are not saying that Christians shouldn’t watch movies or listen to music artists that aren’t Christians, but it does mean that we need to use discernment and let God guide us when it comes to what we choose to watch or listen to.

Our choices in these areas will go a very long way toward helping us to become pure in heart, even in the natural!
