Bible Verse of The Day – 12-11-23

Ecclesiastes 1:14 (NKJV) 14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

As someone who likes to give what I do 100% effort, or not do it at all, I can say that there are some things in life that I have done quite passionately.

I have given them my all.

And now that I am older, I look back at my years more frequently.

In doing so, I tend to reflect on many of those things that I spent my time pursuing. And I can honestly say that most of it is vanity and chasing after the wind.

This does not mean that I should have chosen not to do them all. It simply means that some of the things I did have little meaning in the grand scheme of things.

Even today, looking at the here and now, there are things that I am passionate about that God has shown me have little or no benefit to me or others around me.

And this causes me to ponder more deeply on what I choose to spend my time doing. I seek God more seriously when I contemplate doing something.

He is, after all, the One I am accountable to for everything I do. And He is the One I want to lead me in every step I take.

None of this is said to insinuate that our lives should be joyless and dull.

But the truth is that our lives were meant to bring glory and honor to God in all that we do.

Serving God is never dull. Truly living for His kingdom will change the way we think, and the way we see and perceive everything around us.

So, as we embark on any journey, or we endeavor to do something, let us do it with our hearts intent on doing it in a way that will please our Father and shine His light for others to see and recognize.

Let us not put our hope in the things of this world. But let us seek Him wholeheartedly and choose our steps wisely and with Him at the forefront of all we do, doing what we do passionately for His kingdom.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-10-23

Ecclesiastes 1:14 (NKJV) 14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

Last July I turned 60 years old.

It was kind of a weird feeling, to be honest.

I don’t feel 60. Not at all. I love the outdoors and I love to be active; bass fishing, bike riding, walking and just taking in the beauty of God’s incredible creation.

Despite still doing all of that, I am 60. And because I’m 60, I have seen some stuff.

I haven’t traveled around the world. It’s not really that kind of stuff that I’m referring to.

When I say that I’ve seen a lot of things, I’m referring to everyday things; stuff that we all see in life. And over the many years of my life, I have grown to love some things about life.

But I will readily tell you that almost everything that people love or get excited about is vanity and grasping for the wind.

Some of the things that would be exceptions to this would be our walk with God, the love we share with our spouse, our family and our children.

All else, including hobbies, careers, physical appearance, material possessions, financial status, social status, etc., are all nothing more than vanity and chasing after the wind.

You see, in the end. All that matters is our relationship with our Creator, the God of heaven and earth.

He is the One who breathed life into us. He is the One who gave our heart the rhythm of its beat. He is the One who spoke the worlds into existence. And He is the One who redeemed us through the blood of His only Son, Jesus Christ.

So, it’s important that we truly understand this and keep everything in its proper perspective and proper place.

And when we feel like we’re starting to get caught up in the things and the ways of this world, let us be reminded that it is all vanity and grasping for the wind; a vapor that passes as quickly as it materialized.

Pursue God and put Him first in everything. In that alone is true satisfaction.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-5-15

Ecclesiastes 1:1 (NKJV) 14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

So many of us work very hard. We spend hours and hours each day in our respective careers or jobs.

We buy new homes, new cars, new this or that. It can become a never-ending cycle that we seem to get sucked into, with no end in sight.

Case in point: Televisions used to be a luxury. If a family bought a TV, they would buy something modest, that they could afford and they would keep it until it no longer worked.

Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for people to buy a TV that’s very large and then add a home theater sound system to it, to emulate being in the movie theater. When everything is said and done, these setups can cost many, many hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.

And sadly, many people buy these types of setups on credit because they can’t afford to pay cash for them. And they pay on them for many, many months before they actually own them. And by then, the TV is now outdated and the cycle goes on and on.

This is just one example of how far off track the world has gotten and how vanity has swept so many off their feet and sucked them into a cycle of working and spending.

And when everything is said and done, the things that we chase, the money that we work our lives away for, is worth nothing when compared to eternity.

Yes, we need to work! And yes, having a TV, a nice car or some other item is OK. But when we get caught up in always having to buy the latest and greatest of everything, then we are chasing after the wind.

We can work our lives away to obtain stuff, and yet when our lives are over, that stuff won’t matter a single bit.

It’s how we handled our relationship with God and what we do for others that matters in the long run.

I will admit that this message didn’t take on the direction that I thought it would when I sat down to write it. But maybe it’s what we all need to hear in order to see some things.

Let’s not be a people of vanity, grasping at things and chasing after the wind.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-21-14

Ecclesiastes 1:14 (NKJV) I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

There are so many things that pull on us, making demands for our time and attention.

Work, hobbies, children, spouses, sports, activities, yard work, housework, and the list can go on and on.

Now, most of these things are necessities. We obviously need to do laundry, clean our house, tend to the children, maintain our yard, etc. But there are many things that we spend time on that are fruitless and, honestly, a waste of our time.

Solomon experienced just about everything there was to experience in life. He had it all and did it all. He had more riches than anyone. He had more women than he knew what to do with. He was admired by everyone around the known world for his wisdom and accomplishments.

But after everything he had experienced and everything he had done, he saw it for what it was; vanity and grasping for the wind.

So let us ask you today, what is your time spent on? What do we do that is vanity and grasping for the wind?

Are our lives just a repeating sequence of meaningless events? We all need to consider this. We need to take a look at our lives and make sure we’re spending our time on those things that will impact lives for Christ and leave a legacy when our time here on earth is through.

Yes, we can still have a hobby and things that we enjoy, but if our time is spent more on those things than on things that matter for eternity, then we may need to make some adjustments.

Indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-25-12

(Eccl 2:11 NKJV)  Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.

King Solomon had all there was to have in those days. He had endeavored to try everything his heart desired. He had satisfied all of his wants and desires for pleasure.

After experiencing all there was to experience, he came to one conclusion; “all was vanity and grasping for the wind”.

Oh… the time we each spend trying to satisfy the desires of our flesh. It can be blatant or it can be disguised or veiled, but in the end, it will still be vanity.

True satisfaction and happiness comes only from one Source; God, himself.

Spend time this weekend reflecting on this and weighing the things in your life that are taking up your time. What is real and what is vanity? What is for your satisfaction and what is for God’s glory?

The results of what you find might be very interesting.
