Category: Hungering After God

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-5-23

Matthew 5:6 (NKJV) 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

Most believers struggle to fully understand the importance of what Jesus was saying here.

What does it really mean to hunger and thirst after righteousness?

Do we really know? Or do we just nod in agreement and keep reading?

Have you ever been hungry? I mean really, really hungry. You’ve gone a long spell without food and you can’t wait to get your hands on something good to eat.

As you prepare to finally eat, your stomach is rumbling, your mouth is watering and you’re full of anticipation as you ready yourself for that first bite of food.

We all know this feeling, right?

Hungering and thirsting after righteousness should be like this, but so much stronger.

We need to allow God to develop in us a hunger for His ways that far exceeds our hunger for natural food.

Do you remember what Jesus told His disciples when they urged Him to take the time to eat?

John 4:32 (NKJV) 32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.”

This is the best example of hungering after righteousness that we can follow. Jesus was willing to deprive His body of food while giving 110% of Himself to be about His Father’s work.

What do we hunger after?

On what do we spend our time and energy?

How hungry are we to learn and know the Father’s ways and His path for our lives?

That right there is the million-dollar question that we all must answer, both to ourselves and to the God who created us and gave to us the breath of life.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-21-20

Matthew 5:6 (NKJV) 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

Have you ever been really, really hungry? I’m talking about being so hungry that all you can think of is getting some food… something to eat that will satisfy that hunger and fill you up.

We can probably all nod in agreement that we have experienced this.

In the verse above, Jesus spoke to the crowd and talked about those who hunger and thirst after righteousness. He said that they will be filled.

A hunger for God and His righteousness in our lives is what keeps us pursuing Him, seeking Him and reaching out for Him. It keeps us feasting on His food (His word). It’s the only thing that will truly satisfy us and satiate that hunger.

You see, our pursuit of God can’t be casual if we want it to be life-changing or truly satisfying.

We have to be willing to give it 100%, and we have to have the right motives in our quest.

This hunger is what separates the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. It’s what causes us to continually push forward and leave all else behind as we move closer and closer to God and devote more and more time and energy to this pursuit.

Once we start to develop this hunger, nothing else will satisfy us. We will begin pushing everything else aside to make sure that we get what we need; time spent with God and in His word. Nothing else will do.

This hunger can’t be manufactured. It can’t be created artificially or synthetically. It comes only from a true desire to know Him in His fullness.

And take a look at what Jesus said about it in another verse:

John 6:35 (NKJV) 35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

It is only Him who brings true satisfaction, Who can quench that thirst and fill that hunger.

Accept no substitutes. Don’t stay hungry or thirsty. Pursue Him, and Him only.
