1 John 2:16 (NLT) 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.
Life can be very busy.
We hustle through the days, trying our best to do what needs to be done to live; taking the steps we need to take.
And sometimes that busyness can cause us to lose track of time, allowing days, weeks, and months to pass by us before we realize it’s happening.
And before we know it, years have passed us by. And if we have not been careful, we have spent that time chasing after the things of the world that we swore we would never chase after.
And that time cannot be regained. It is forever behind us.
We may not be able to regain that time from our past, but we can change the days ahead of us.
Sometimes we need a gentle reminder to slow down, look at our lives, and evaluate what it is that we are pursuing.
The Apostle John reminds us, above, that the world offers us nothing worth pursuing; a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions.
And he starkly reminds us that these things are not of the Father. They are not what He wants us chasing after.
Today, let’s stop and look around. Are we where we want to be spiritually?
Is our walk with God strong, with our faith firmly rooted and grounded in Him in all that we do?
Are we spending time in His word each day, feeding and nurturing our spirit, and learning of Him?
And are we putting Him first in everything, pushing away the things of the world and running toward the things of God?
