Hebrews 4:12 (LSB) 12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
What does this mean?
Being alive does not mean that the word of God changes. It does not change.
It means that it never ceases to give life wherever it is applied.
It meets us in our situations, giving sound instruction, wisdom, and counsel.
It is more than ink on paper, pixels on a screen, and words spoken by men.
It is God-breathed.
It is Holy Spirit-inspired.
It is God’s message to mankind; our guidebook for life.
One of the things that we often see people do is try to adapt God’s word to “modern culture”, bending it and twisting it to make scripture conform to man’s ways.
This is not what is meant by the Word being living and active.
Scripture does not change or sway with changing times and failing morals.
It stands true through time; a solid anchor that holds throughout the centuries.
We can never let anyone try to convince us that changing moral values are approved by God in any way, shape or form.
What God said is sin 2000 years ago is still sin today.
Nothing has changed except the willingness of weak people accepting what others have told them to accept.
As children of God, we must learn to stand firm even when there is pressure to conform.
Right is right. Wrong is wrong.
God’s word defined these standards thousands of years ago. And those standards do not change.
Let God’s word be applied aptly, giving life where there is death, light where there is darkness, and freedom where there is bondage.
