Proverbs 29:25 (LSB) 25 Trembling before man brings a snare, But he who trusts in Yahweh will be set securely on high.
Fearing what people think of us is a snare that can drastically alter the course of our lives if we don’t take the steps that are necessary to correct it.
This can affect both our natural lives and our spiritual lives as the fear of man causes us to avoid doing things that are required of us in one way or another.
This can be a very tough behavior to overcome, especially if we try to tackle it on our own.
So, how do we tackle it?
Not by might, nor by power.
You see, these things can be tackled and overcome only by allowing the Holy Spirit to empower us and give us wisdom.
Philippians 4:13 (LSB) 13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
When God calls us or prompts us to do something, He also empowers us to do it.
The catch here is that we must first allow Him to do so, and then we must obey Him when that prompting comes.
God does not force us to do anything. He brings it to our attention and then gives us free will. We choose whether we do it or not.
So, if it is our desire to please God and obey Him, we will learn to let the Spirit of God give us what it takes to walk out those things that are difficult or beyond our natural abilities.
Sometimes that fear will still try to rise in us. And the enemy will whisper in our ears to use it against us.
But He that is in us is stronger (and bigger) than he that is in the world. And it is Him that calls the shots, not our fear of others and what they might think of us.
1 John 4:4 (LSB) 4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
So, when that fear starts to rise, we must tell it to sit down and be quiet so we can hear and obey the voice of God as He speaks.
