Category: Obeying God

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-17-21

Exodus 14:14 (NKJV) 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

We are living in times where we need to know when to pull back and hold our peace. Be still. Don’t make a move. Don’t say a word.

There is a move of God coming that will be loud and clear.

You see, when God moves, there is no questioning it, and no trying to get out of it.

Manipulation will not work with Him.

It is what it is. It will be what He calls it. Kind of like the referee; when he calls you out, you’re out! Final word. No appeals allowed.

I have seen people throughout my life fight God on some things. They thought they could change the outcome of something. But it remained the way it needed to be.

Sometimes we just want it to be our way. We don’t care at the time about the circumstances or the big picture. We just want to see something take place, something that will give us great satisfaction.

As humans, that’s what it is. We want to see it our way most times.

Let me say, that as we begin to trust God enough to fight for us, we will actually become winners. We will be strong in our going out and our coming in.

Joshua 14:11 (NKJV) 11 As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in.

Hold our peace today. Trust Him to fight for us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-22-20

1 Samuel 16:1 (NKJV) 1 Now the Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.”

When God brings a change to a situation, we need to move with it.

He’s merciful and compassionate and gives us time to mourn over the loss or sacrifice, but the time comes when we need to get up and move forward.

I believe God is saying to someone today, get up, fill your horn with oil and go.

Saul’s day as king was done. He had been rejected because he disobeyed God. But God had already provided for a new king. His name was David.

Samuel was being sent to Jesse, David’s father, to anoint David as the next king.

There came David, a shepherd, to be anointed as king.

Just as God had seen the disobedience in Saul, and took action to provide the next king (a man after His own heart), He will also provide for us in advance for the things that need to change.

1 Samuel 13:14 (NKJV) 14 But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”

Samuel mourned for Saul. But God said, let’s move on, I have provision. Let’s go get him.

Are we still holding on to things and mourning over them when we should be moving on?

I’m talking about jobs, friends, relationships, positions or success, etc

We don’t live life in the past. We live life today and into our tomorrows.

Good memories are nice to have, wonderful to remember, look at and reminisce over.

We can hold them dear to our hearts. But we must know that they are now memories. They are of the past, and we need to move on into the future, the new day with new things that God will usher in.

So, what will we do?

Will we stop mourning over what was, and enter into what is? Will we move forward toward what God has made provision for in a big way?

He will fill the emptiness. He will bring comfort. And He will heal as we go forward.

Let’s move on today, even if it is only one little step forward. Even that little step is forward motion.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-26-20

Psalm 119:143 (NKJV) 143 Trouble and anguish have overtaken me, Yet Your commandments are my delights.

There are always going to be things that try and overtake us at certain stages in our journey. No matter who we are, we will face troubling times.

It’s so important that, as we go through them, we watch and we listen for God’s commandments. Because whether we want to believe it or not, He will be there with us, both in the good times and in the hard times.

Keep obeying His commandments.

One of the first things we tend to do is to pull back from God when things aren’t going right or going the way we think they should go.

But, it’s important to recognize and remember hard times may be used by God to get us to where we need to be in our walk.

Don’t believe the hype talk that we hear so much of. Believe the real talk. God is God in our lives as much as we follow His commandments (His word and His precepts) and allow Him to be God.

He is with us in the storm, and I would add that He is with us in the calm. He is with us in the low times. He is with us in the high times. He is with us in the sad and sorrowful moments of our life, He is with us in the upbeat and exciting times for sure.

Delight in His commandments as David did and watch how He turns sorrow into joy!

Esther 9:22 (NKJV) 22 as the days on which the Jews had rest from their enemies, as the month which was turned from sorrow to joy for them, and from mourning to a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and joy, of sending presents to one another and gifts to the poor.

God is good! He will turn our sorrow to joy. Our mourning to a holiday.

Delight in His commandments no matter what. Don’t turn our backs on Him. Stay steadfast and keep doing what He has told us to do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-13-20

Joshua 7:20-21 (NKJV) 20 And Achan answered Joshua and said, “Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and this is what I have done: 21 When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. And there they are, hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver under it.”

Yesterday, we left off after establishing that “accursed things” are things that God has told us not to touch.

This is huge when it comes to God’s blessings being in our homes, our relationships, our work place and our church family.

What have we allowed in?

It’s usually something that God has told us very clearly not to get involved with; Not to take it, or line up with it.

Sometimes it’s not even us that’s at fault. Maybe it’s someone else that is in our family or our “camp”.

The “accursed thing” is usually something that is very much desired or loved. And it has brought much pain.

It has caused much sorrow, and not just for the one person that desired it, but for the whole kit n caboodle; the whole family, the whole church, the whole lot of employees, etc.

It has affected our siblings and our loved ones. And it affects us deeply when it comes to hearing from God.

His blessings have stopped, and we are sitting here saying, “why, God, why?”.

Just as God told Joshua, we are saying to you, “get up! Sanctify your place and move forward”.

Some may say, “well, I haven’t been able to make any changes. God’s not hearing me. He has left me. All I see is hardship and sickness, death all around me and others related to me”.

What accursed thing have we desired more than obeying God? We need to figure that out because that is the very thing that is hurting us.

That is the thing that has caused us a failed marriage, health issues, lost jobs, abusive relationships, financial problems, struggles with addictive behavior, etc.

If we don’t know, we need to find out.

It’s time to get serious and sanctify ourselves, our home, our relationships, and our children.

It’s time to boot that accursed thing out the door and get back on track with God. Because if we don’t, then we’ve failed Him.

Boot it out! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-12-20

Joshua 7:13 (NKJV) 13 Get up, sanctify the people, and say, ‘Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, because thus says the Lord God of Israel: “There is an accursed thing in your midst, O Israel; you cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the accursed thing from among you.”

We want to talk today about accursed things.

In this particular verse, God was speaking to Joshua about a man named Achan.

Achan had a coveting issue (Joshua 7:21). He had taken some things from a battle they were in. He then hid them under his tent.

They consisted of a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing 50 shekels.

God had warned them not to take anything. By doing what he did, his sin and disobedience affected the whole of the children of Israel.

That’s right. It opened the door for defeat and destruction on them all.

They had to get rid of him, his family and all his goods in order to fix things.

Accursed things are things that God says, “don’t touch”.

What accursed things do we have today in our home or in our walk that have brought doom on us and have even affected others around us?

This is a big deal and it has become a major problem in the lives of many, many believers.

So, let’s take a closer look at this tomorrow.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-6-20

Judges 13:1 (NKJV) 1 Again the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord delivered them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years.

I have spent a fair amount of time in the Old Testament over the last few months.

During this time, I have made an observation that is truly saddening. In fact, this morning while I was shaving, I was listening to the book of 1st Chronicles, and I heard the phrase “and he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord” yet again.

I literally shook my head in bewilderment at the people of Israel, wondering how they could have been so callous in their attitudes toward God. How could they continue, over and over again, to defy God and turn their backs on Him?

My question was somewhat rhetorical, I guess, because I already knew the answer.

Their hearts were never really for God. They just wanted whatever He would give them.

Time and time again we read how God would bless His people. They would serve Him for a short period of time, and then they would turn to other gods.

Eventually, God would become agitated with them, and His wrath would be poured out on them in one way or another.

This was usually in the form of various sicknesses or diseases. Sometimes it was in the form of being captured by foreign leaders and taken into captivity for a number of years.

God clearly punished them for their lack of loyalty. But the punishment was also for their behavior; their abhorrent actions that were a stench in the nostrils of God.

One other thing I noticed is that it wasn’t just the nation as a whole that was guilty. Individuals carried this attribute too, doing evil in the sight of the Lord. And they paid the price also.

But in all of this, something else stands out clearly. And it is this; when the people’s hearts turned, and they sincerely repented, God’s mercy was always right there to make a way for them to come back to Him and live under His blessings.

There is so much we can all learn from this when it comes to how our actions affect the path of our lives.

And here’s the “moral of the story”. Love God. Put Him first in everything. And walk in His favor.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-31-20

Romans 5:19 (NKJV) 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

The rewards for an obedient heart are more than we could ever imagine.

Our goal on this earth is to walk in Jesus’ example, for He was the ultimate obedient Son to His Father. He was perfect, and He only did what His Father showed Him.

Because of His obedience, even all the way to the cross, we can have eternal life. Thank you, Jesus!

And He made a way for us to have the most beautiful, personal walk with our Heavenly Father while we too are here on earth.

It’s important that we also learn to walk in such obedience, that we too can make a huge difference.

It’s not about getting degrees. They’re nice, but that’s not the be all and end all.

It’s not about having the biggest estate.

It’s not about how much money we have in our bank account, IRA, or 401K.

It’s not about our net worth, even though some may say that this determines our status and how people may look up to us.

Our worth here on this earth does nothing for us or for others. But our obedience to God and our love for others is what will leave behind a story and a legacy worth talking about. Amen.

What’s our story looking like today? It’s never too late to start writing a good one!

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-24-20

Deuteronomy 1:42 (NKJV) 42 “And the Lord said to me, ‘Tell them, “Do not go up nor fight, for I am not among you; lest you be defeated before your enemies.” ’

This is something we all need to watch out for. If God is not with us, then we are on our own. It’s as easy as that.

And if we think He’s kidding, just watch and see.

How many have had experiences where we thought we were doing what God had shown us and then, bam! It falls apart.

We know. We’ve been there.

God can teach us some very good lessons from these types of things if we let Him. On the other hand, We can get angry and bitter if we don’t let God teach us.

We know that it can sometimes be hard to tell which path to choose. And many times we may think we are stepping out in faith.

But God does not fool around with things He wants us to do. He will usually make it very clear. It’s usually our flesh and our desires that complicate things.

Proverbs 16:9 (NKJV) 9 A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.

We need to make sure that before we begin anything, we ask Him for His steps by praying and listening. He will guide us in whether to move forward or put the brakes on.

The results of the steps we take will show whether He was in it or not and whether those steps were the right ones.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-15-20

Deuteronomy 28:2 (NKJV) 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God…

When we obey the voice of the Lord God, His protection and blessings will be with us.

Obedience will activate the blessings of the Lord upon our lives.

Now, the blessings may not always be what we think they will be. But they will be what God knows is good for us and what we need at that time. Trusting Him with this is a sign of spiritual maturity.

Take, for instance, the Manna in the wilderness for the Israelites (Exodus 16:4). They were blessed, whether they realized it or not. The Manna kept them nourished and fed. God knew it would.

But they, on the other hand, complained and wanted meat.

God did eventually give them quail. But come on! The manna would have been more than sufficient for them.

Exodus 16:11-12 (NKJV) 11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’ ”

Who’s complaining that what God gives them is not enough?

Are we going to be satisfied with what God knows is good for us, or will we be like the Israelites and want more and more?

Let us learn to desire and want what God knows is good for us and be OK with it. Focus on obeying. Everything else will come supernaturally, by the hand of God. And it will be exactly what we need at any given time. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-13-20

Deuteronomy 32:48-50 (NKJV) 48 Then the Lord spoke to Moses that very same day, saying: 49 “Go up this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, across from Jericho; view the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel as a possession; 50 and die on the mountain which you ascend, and be gathered to your people, just as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people;

As I read this verse today, my first thought was, “aw…poor Moses.”

I felt so bad that he didn’t get to enter the promised land, but was only able to view it from a distance.

I thought, “boy, he really got in trouble with that little maneuver he pulled, when he hit the rock to get water, instead of obeying God  and simply speaking to the rock”. (Numbers 20:8)

Even though he did get water from the rock by hitting it, it shows us that God does not look at the outcome of a situation. What means the most to Him is our obedience.

This is a very good lesson for us all.

How many of us have not entered into our promised land? And for what reason? Because we didn’t obey and do what He has told us to do.

Maybe God has let us look at what might have been ours if we had obeyed Him. Ouch.

I know this is hard to accept, but maybe it’s time for some of us to move on.

Don’t dwell there. Pick up the pieces, learn from it and keep walking.

God is a good God; He has a plan for us even if we miss it or mess things up at times.

It may not be exactly what we were hoping for but we can assure you that, because He is a loving Father, it will be better than we think.
