Bible Verse of The Day – 11-9-17

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride is destructive, no matter how we look at it.

Some people are just prideful. They know it and it doesn’t bother them. They parade it and wear it like a badge of honor.

Sometimes, though, we can be prideful and not even realize it. We can move and do things in proud ways and never even give it a thought. It might have crept in slowly and quietly. Many times, this can be related to something we do that we have become very good at.

Sports, studies, a trade, a hobby, our career, or even our ministry. These are all areas where pride will sneak in and live undetected for years and years.

Many times, this pride will show up in ways that will give it away, like maybe in fancy titles. Many of these titles take time and effort to acquire, so the people who attain these levels of education or achievement display those titles as a way of showing people their accomplishments.

But even if we have worked hard to accomplish certain things, pride is still pride, no matter how we try to dress it up.

This isn’t to say that all titles are wrong. Not at all. But when titles become so important to us that we have trouble writing our name without the title attached, or when we feel like people owe it to us to address us using our title, we probably have a little problem brewing.

Just as in the world, the body of Christ is also wrestling with this. Titles have taken on new importance during the last few decades. People have taken to adding titles before or after their names to deem themselves more important or distinguished, or with the hopes it will garner them some attention and help propel them to higher levels of notoriety.

But with God, titles carry no weight. He looks at the heart of man, not at the title or the stature of the person.

1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV) 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

So, let’s check ourselves and ask God to show us where pride may have crept in and taken hold of us, even in some small way.

And then let’s ask Him to root it out of us and give us a clean heart.

Psalm 51:10 (NKJV) 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-13-17

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride will be the downfall of even the most well-intentioned people, including God’s people.

Sadly, many church leaders become victims of pride. God wants to use some of these men and women to do mighty works. But as they begin to see God’s hand moving in their lives, pride sets in and they end up straying from the path that God had set before them.

It’s important that we remember that pride was what caused Lucifer, one of God’s highest angels, to fall and be cast from heaven.

So, if it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone.

We need to be very careful, whether we are laypeople or leaders, not to let pride set in. We need to guard ourselves from pride and arrogance if we want to stay within God’s plan for us and continue to be used by Him.

How do we tell if we have become prideful?

Do we love it when people tell us how much they see God using us?

Do we gloat about the things God is doing through us?

Do we look down on others in the body of Christ because we feel we are better than them, or more gifted than them?

Do we get hung up on titles that make us sound distinguished?

This is just a short list of things we can use to check ourselves. It’s critical that we’re 100% honest about all of them. And we need to let God show us where we’re at with this.

We encourage everyone to let God give us all a heart examination. Let Him shine His bright, holy light into our hearts and lives and show us where pride may have crept in. And then let Him root it out once and for all.

We can’t let pride destroy us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-12-16

Proverbs 11:2 (NKJV) 2 When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.

No matter where we are at in life, it’s always important that we remain humble and teachable.

We can be the CEO of a major company or we can be jobless and without a place to live. No matter what our position or situation in life, humility is a critical attribute that we always need to pursue.

Sometimes we can get ourselves into some pretty deep trouble when we get prideful. We may not even know we’ve become proud or haughty, but God will always be willing to give us an attitude adjustment when we need it!

And let’s just say that it’s much better for us if we recognize our pridefulness and make the adjustments ourselves than for God to have to do it for us.

And pride can creep into our lives in such subtle ways that we might never believe it if someone told us that we’re proud.

So let’s do some inventory of our life today. Have we become prideful or boastful about anything lately?

Are we holding our heads high because of some of our accomplishments or because of our financial status?

There can be many, many things that we get prideful about. But none of them is worth us getting into hot water with God and causing Him to have to rebuke us and correct us.

Let’s check ourselves and root out that terrible thing called pride, before it causes us to fall.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-14-15

Isaiah 14:14 (NKJV) 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’

What would cause someone to ever dream of saying something like this? How could anyone ever want to or think that they could ascend above God and make themselves like Him?

One word; pride.

Pride is one of the most destructive things that we can deal with as human beings.

Most sin is the result of pride. We don’t want to humble ourselves under the hand of God or submit to people in leadership over us. So we do whatever we feel like doing.

Pride will cause us to make some crazy decisions and it will never, ever lead us to anything good.

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Lucifer was at the throne of God, serving Him as a head angel. Yet, in his pride, he thought he could rise above God and be like Him. He even managed to convince a third of the angels that he could do this.

The end result wasn’t good.

Pride can be very subtle and sneaky. It won’t always rear its ugly head in obvious ways, like it did with lucifer. Most times it’s so sneaky that we don’t see it creeping in until it’s done serious damage.

But it’s never too late to change. It’s never too late to repent, humble ourselves and ask God to help us to get back on the right track. And it’s never too late to make things right and learn from our experiences.

Today, let’s ask God to show us where we might have become prideful. Even in the littlest of ways. Let’s repent and let Him help us to get rid of that haughty attitude and proud spirit, before it does more damage in our lives and the lives of those around us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-7-15

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride is a terrible thing and sometimes we can be blinded and not realize we’re walking in it.

We were invited out to dinner after a church service one day. We decided we were going to pay for everyone’s dinner. After dinner was over we went up to the cashier and took care of the bill without anyone else knowing what we had done.

We didn’t think anything of it at first. But later, after the bill never came to the table and everyone was wondering why, we noticed that the Pastor who had invited us to dinner had a disappointed look on his face, only to find out that he had wanted to be the one to pay for our dinner. Because of our pride, we ruined something good that he wanted to do for us.

On the ride home afterward, the Holy Spirit spoke one word to us; pretentious.

We’d heard the word before but never paid much attention to what it meant. So the moment we got home, we looked it up, just to be sure.

Pretentious: having or showing the unpleasant quality of people who want to be regarded as more impressive, successful, or important than they really are.

Ouch. We felt terrible. We knew it was not our place to do what we did. We gave pride a place that day.

How do we watch out for pride? We watch our actions.

It’s up to us to recognize it, and to shut it down by making a change in our actions. Or we can expect destruction to come.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-4-15

Micah 6:8 (NKJV) 8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

In the verse above there is a lot to take in. There’s a lot of “meat” there. But, today, let’s take a look at the last part; to walk humbly with your God.

Humility and pride; two complete opposites. To be humble means to drop our pride. That’s a big deal and it can take a lot of work and effort for some of us.

Pride is a killer of so many things; relationships, opportunities, careers, friendships and many more. But most importantly, it can kill our walk with God if we’re not careful.

Proverbs 11:2 (NKJV) 2 When pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom.

God wants us to walk before Him humbly. If we are to ever build a relationship with Him, we need to let Him show us where we’re carrying pride and then let Him help us to lay that pride down.

He will show us everything we need to know if we let Him. It might hurt a little at first. Heck, it might even hurt a lot, but our hurts will heal once we get past ourselves and let God work in us, to mold us and shape us into who He made us to be.

The less we fight Him on this, the less it will hurt. And the less we resist, the sooner we can get ourselves fixed up and moving in the direction He wants for us.

Remember; it’s better to get right with God than to always be right!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-30-15

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride is something we all wrestle with in one way or another.

Some types of pride can be easy to spot. But other types can be more subtle and harder to pinpoint.

Either way, contrary to what the world teaches us, pride isn’t good and can destroy us if we don’t recognize it and deal with it.

This isn’t meant to beat anyone down for being prideful. Like we already mentioned, we all wrestle with it to some degree at some point in our lives.

But sometimes we need a gentle reminder to cause us to check ourselves and see where we’re really at.

Pride is sneaky and can creep up on us without us really seeing it for what it is until it’s too late. And sometimes we do see it, but don’t think it’s a big deal.

But it is a big deal! No matter how small it may seem, we need to see it and take care of it.

Pride really does lead to destruction. We’ve seen it and we’ve experienced it firsthand.

Sincerely, genuinely ask God to show us where pride might be rooted in us. And then ask Him to uproot it and get rid of it.

We might not like how it feels at first, but letting God take it voluntarily hurts a lot less than letting it stay and then destroying us sometime down the road.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-4-14

Proverbs 11:2 (NKJV) 2 When pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom.

Pride is a destroyer. Contrary to what most people are taught these days, it is not good to be proud.

Yes, we should take pride in our work with regard to doing it to the best of our ability, but this just means that we do what we should be doing. God wants us to work in all things as though we’re doing it for Him.

But pride can creep into so many areas of our lives and if we don’t recognize it, it will ruin us.

And pride can be oh so subtle. It starts a little at a time and then grows, until it has become a monster ready to devour us.

God wants us to be humble. Humility is a good thing because it allows us to hear God and accept correction when we need it.

Take a minute today to ask God if you might be getting prideful in any areas of your life. And then let’s listen intently and with an open heart for His answer.

Pride can only hurt us if we let it. So let’s root it out before it’s too late.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-13-14

James 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

Humility.

It’s something most of us never realize that we’re lacking, until our pride causes us to come crashing down.

Only after we’ve fallen do we see where we’ve been prideful.

Only after we’ve fallen do we see how pride has crept into our lives and caused us to stray from the path that God had set before us.

It happens to all of us at one time or another and in varying degrees. We can become prideful over little things or big things. Either way, pride leads to a fall.

Did you know that God resists the proud? That’s pretty heavy duty stuff. He literally opposes prideful people.

1 Peter 5:5 (NKJV) Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

The scripture above mentions young people, but this verse applies to everyone, regardless of age or gender. God really does oppose the proud.

So do we want God to be opposed to us? I know I don’t!

So let’s ask God to show us where we’re prideful. Lets ask Him to help us change and get rid of our pride and arrogance.

Let’s give God permission to root this out of us and create in us a clean heart, one that stays humble and childlike in his sight.

Psalm 51:10 (NKJV)10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-30-14

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride is a very destructive thing. Pride can cause us to do things that we would never dream of doing.

Pride can bring such destruction to our lives if we don’t deal with it before it takes us out.

If all of us were to look back on the problems we’ve had in our lives, we could probably trace many of them to pride and/or arrogance (haughtiness).

Pride causes us to become unteachable. It causes us to think we are above correction. And any time we start thinking that we don’t need correction, we’re in serious trouble.

Many times we don’t see the damage that pride can do until it’s too late. It’s usually after we have been through a major trial in our lives that it becomes evident to us that it was caused by our pride.

Then and only then will we be able to admit that we could possibly have done some things differently which might have helped us avoid some of the trials in our lives.

Ask God where you’re prideful. Be open to His feedback. Don’t just ask Him and then refuse to hear what He has to say.

We can all use a good humbling once in a while. It keeps us on track and helps us grow.

We just have to want to grow.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-10-14

James 4:6-7 (NKJV) 6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Pride and humility. They are two exact opposites. And a large segment of the church seems to have gotten caught up on the wrong side of the fence during the past few decades.

We know this because we have seen it, and the fruits of it, in our own lives. God has shown it to us and He has been working diligently, skillfully removing it with the precision of a surgeon.

Pride can creep in ever so subtly. It can come in disguised as a million different things that look so good on the surface. But in the end, pride will destroy us, slowly, a little tiny bit at a time, until we are devastated and left empty-handed.

Pride is being propagated throughout the body of Christ in many ways, by many different teachings. The “Prosperity Gospel” is one of the biggest culprits, but there are others too. And as followers of Christ unknowingly become followers of “other gospels”, pride can creep in and sweep us away.

We implore you today to ask God to show you where you may have become prideful. Let Him show you where pride has crept in. And then let Him do what needs to be done to remove it from your life.

Do it now, because the longer you wait, the harder and more painful it will be to root out and get rid of.

God is the ultimate surgeon. He knows how to remove what isn’t good for us and then heal us afterward.
