John 5:39-40 (NKJV 39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
Here are four things that will keep us from having eternal life.
Pride – is a deep sense of pleasure, satisfaction, or self-worth derived from achievements, possessions, or associations.
Arrogance – The outward manifestation of pride. Damaging, fear-based, and ego-driven behavior characterized by an inflated sense of superiority, often resulting in narrow-mindedness and resistance to learning.
Selfishness – the excessive or exclusive concern for one’s own welfare, advantage, or pleasure, often with little to no regard for the needs, feelings, or interests of others.
Corruption – A person that has lost integrity, often engaging in illegal or unethical acts for personal gain.
They all have something in common, they are about self and having a lack of humility.
Luke 9:23 (NKJV) 23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
We can choose pleasure, satisfaction, self-worth, and have a big ego. We can only care for ourselves. We can indulge in illegal or unethical acts.
And we have a free will, so no one can stop us.
But if we want life with Christ in Heaven, we must do away with these characteristics quickly.
Don’t rely on having a lot of time, for no one knows what tomorrow brings.
