Bible Verse of The Day – 12-1-21

Part 1

1 Peter 3:18 (NKJV) 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit…

As Peter penned these words, he was writing to encourage other believers who were suffering. Some may have even been suffering for their faith in Christ.

Today, though, let’s not focus on suffering, but on the depth of what Peter was sharing.

Look at what he wrote about Jesus; Christ suffered once for sins.

The Jews were required to offer sacrifices repeatedly. This was an ongoing, perpetual ritual that never had an end. Year after year, sacrifices were offered to atone for their sins, as required under the Old Covenant.

But look what Jesus did; He suffered once, for the sins of all.

This single action negated the need for the continual animal sacrifices. It canceled the Old Covenant in one fell swoop.

Boom. Just like that, the need for repetitive sacrifices was gone!

And so the people were set free from the bondage of the Law and the Old Covenant, never to be required to make another sacrifice or repeat another ritual again.

Let’s talk more about this tomorrow and see what else we can glean from this verse!
