Bible Verse of The Day – 12-12-22

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

This is a popular, well-known scripture. For some, it is their favorite verse in the entirety of the Bible. For others, maybe it’s their favorite words of Jesus.

There’s a good reason for this, since it is based on powerful Biblical truths.

But there is so much more to this verse than many of us realize. So, over the next few days, let’s do a little deep dive to give us understanding as to all that it means.

As we begin, my absolute favorite part is the first part, where we are instructed to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness”.

This one phrase is really a summation of everything God wants from us; to put Him first in everything.

When He tells us to seek Him first, the word, “first” is literal, not symbolic or metaphoric.

When God says, “seek first the kingdom”, He means first, not second, third or somewhere further down our list of things to do.

This ties into many other things that God tells us about building and growing our relationship with Him.

In Jeremiah 29:13, He tells us that we will find Him when we seek Him with our whole heart.

James 4:8 tells us that if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us.

Many other scriptures will tell us the same thing.

What does this mean? It means that as we put God first, we will strengthen our relationship with Him.

And as we do that (put Him first), He will reward us. As the verse above says, “all these things shall be added to you”.
