Bible Verse of The Day – 8-6-26

Job 14:5 (NKJV) 5 Since his days are determined, The number of his months is with You; You have appointed his limits, so that he cannot pass.

We never know when our time to leave this earth is going to be, or what way we will leave.

We may think we are going to live a long life, and we have plenty of time left.

Some people have been diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, and they are facing the real possibility that it may be their time soon.

Others never even give it a thought.

God determines when our last day will be. It is in His hands alone.

We know a man who is a firefighter and who has also spent time working with paramedics. He shared a story about having to go out on a call for a woman who was found unconscious on a sidewalk. When they arrived, she was not breathing, but they were able to resuscitate her.

She was alert, spoke with them and informed them that she had no health problems. In fact, she was out for her daily run when she fell unconscious.

They loaded her into the ambulance, and on the way to the hospital, her heart stopped again.

They successfully resuscitated her, and a short time later her heart stopped a third time. And again, they resuscitated her.

A few minutes later they transferred her to the ER at the hospital and forewarned the ER staff of what they had encountered with her.

The man learned later that she had coded twice more at the ER, bringing the total to five times. And that fifth time she was gone for good.

No matter how hard they tried to resuscitate her and keep her alive, it was her time to go.

Another man we know was taken to the ER, completely unconscious and unresponsive. His blood pressure had plummeted.

The doctor said he likely would not make it through the night. They recommended to his children that he be listed as DNR. So, they had it written on his board in his room; Do Not Resuscitate.

Later that evening, doctors changed shifts. The new doctor that was on duty looked at him and said, “why does it say, DNR? His vital signs are coming back up. He should be OK”.

The next morning, he was awake and wanted to go home. It was a close call, but it was not his time. He is still alive now, many years later.

We just don’t know the timing of our life. It could be short. It could be long, or somewhere in between.

What’s important is that we are ready at any given moment to go home. We must get our hearts right with God and trust Him with the length of our days.

Matthew 6:34 (NKJV) 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
