Category: Judging Others

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-27-14

(Matthew 7:1 NKJV)  “Judge not, that you be not judged.

Why do we feel the need, at times when someone messes up, to have to judge the situation and give our opinion on the matter? Do we forget that we aren’t perfect and that we mess up too?

Sometimes we need to be reminded that falling, messing up or making mistakes happens to all of us at times, and that none of us are perfect and we need each other more than we think… especially when we make mistakes.

God tells us not to judge each other, but to love one another.

(John 13:34 NKJV)  “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

Help someone today that has messed up, by letting them know that no matter what they did wrong, we will still love them.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-9-14

Matthew 7:1-2 (NKJV) 7 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

Have you ever been unjustly judged? Have you ever been judged by the way you look, something you said or maybe even something you did when you happened to make a poor choice about something?

Sometimes we can do something that causes us to “wear that label” on us for a long time. It can take years to shake that stigma off. And sometimes it never completely goes away.

And it never, ever feels good, does it? Sometimes it feels like it might kill us or destroy us emotionally. Sometimes it might even make us feel like we want to give up and throw in the towel, so to speak.

Well, how about when we do that to someone else? Have we ever judged someone based on what we see on the surface or maybe something we heard from someone else? Have we ever written someone off because we thought they weren’t worth anything?

So how do we think it makes them feel? No better than we feel when it happens to us, right?

OK. So what are we going to do about it? We need to stop judging. We need to start seeing people through the eyes of God, with love and compassion, just as we want people to see us.

We need to remind ourselves of how we feel when people judge us without knowing us or what we’ve walked through in our lives. And then we need to view others with that in mind.

Remember, Jesus died for that person that we’re judging, as much as He died for you and for me. God’s compassion, mercy and forgiveness extend to them just as much as they extend to you and me.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-5-14

(Matthew 7:1 NKJV)  “Judge not, that you be not judged.

We know that no one is perfect, right? But yet at times we find ourselves frustrated and angry at those we are very close to and care deeply about, because of the wrong choices they are making.

Why do we feel like this? Two words, “WE CARE”!

When we see someone in trouble, we want to help. If they don’t let us help or won’t heed our advice it can cause us to become fearful, afraid of the consequences. This can cause us to panic and start worrying, which then can lead us into being judgmental toward them.

If we find ourselves in this position, we need to remind ourselves of this verse that tells us not to judge. If we don’t judge the person, we can be more of a help than we can be if we judge them. Remember, we all make mistakes and wrong choices at times.

Panicking will cause us to want to talk about the situation to others, hoping to find comfort or a solution to ease our worrying. Panic can also cause us to start looking at the person and judging them for choices they are making.

How do we help in a situation like this? What can we do instead of worrying, panicking or judging?  We take our concerns to God in prayer.

We show the person love in whatever way God leads us. Sometimes just being there for them as they go through things, without judging them, can be the best love and support anyone can ever show.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-24-13

Matthew 7:1 (NKJV) “Judge not, that you be not judged.

Seven little words.

But these seven little words carry a lot of weight. And over the last several months God has been driving this home to me in many, many ways, showing me that all Christians are guilty of this and that our guilt has driven people away from Him by the millions.

100 years ago this might not have been such an obvious problem in light of that fact that there was no television, no internet and very few telephones over which people could gossip and share their judgments about others.

But it was still happening and it has bloomed into a major problem today. Modern technology has cause this problem to be magnified a million times over, causing much hurt in the world.

We need to remember that even though we know the truth of God’s word when it comes to sin, and the consequences of sin, it is not our duty to pass judgment on anyone who partakes of particular sins.

We are, after all, all sinners. And sin is sin, regardless of what kind of sin we are each guilty of.

Jesus set the example for us Himself, as He chose to LOVE sinners, rather than judge them for their sin. This was obvious in so many instances, where He would tell them plainly that He did not condemn them, but would tell them to sin no more and then send them on their way.

Church, let’s follow in His footsteps. Let’s love people for who they are and let God be their judge.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-17-13

(Luke 6:41 NKJV)  “And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye?

This happens more than we know and not just with unsaved people, but with people that are saved and should know better.

Let’s take a good look at ourselves today and reevaluate ourselves. Are we one of these people that can find fault in someone else’s life,  but when it comes to someone trying to tell us what we do wrong we argue with them, put them down and disconnect ourselves from them?

Are we in denial, thinking we are these perfect little angels and can do NO wrong?

None of us are perfect. So with that in mind, know that there are times when we will have to help someone see some things that they may need to change. There also may be times when someone may have to show us that we have some things to adjust as well.

Always remember that it’s important to hear what people are saying to us. If we are not sure what they are saying is truth, take time to ask God. He will show us.

But don’t just discard it because we don’t like what we hear from someone, or think they are being hurtful or mean, etc. Sometimes truth will hurt, but, it’s the truth that will make us free.

How will we ever grow if we are always finding fault with others and correcting them, but we never let others help us?

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-30-13

John 8:10-12 (NKJV) 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

Leading up to the verses above, a woman had been caught in the act of adultery and dragged into the streets. A crowd had gathered and they were about to stone her to death.

At some point during this ruckus, Jesus happened upon the scene. He spoke some words that caused the woman’s accusers to drop their stones and walk away, one by one.

It was at this point that He asked the woman where her accusers were and if any of them had ended up condemning her.

As the woman answered Jesus, she realized that not a single one of them had condemned her, once Jesus had shown them their own sinfulness.

Now… this was the perfect opportunity for Jesus to go up one side of this woman and down the other about the terrible act that she had been caught in. So what did He do? Did he judge her, which He had every right to do?

No. He showed her mercy, compassion and LOVE! He held her attention and gained her trust by not condemning her, and instead, showed her what God’s love is. And by doing so, He taught her more than any judgmental look or harsh words could ever have done.

This is a lesson that the church, the body of Christ, needs to learn and get deep into our spirits. Yes… sin is sin and it destroys its victims. But it is love that makes people aware of their sinfulness and causes them to repent. Not judgmental glances, harsh words or scathing discourses on the consequences of sin.

“Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
