Tag: What the Bible says about judging people

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-27-23

Matthew 7:1 (NJKV) 1 “Judge not, that you be not judged.

This single verse has been the topic of many conversations, discussions, and debates down through the centuries since Jesus spoke these words.

What did He mean by it?

Is there a deeper meaning than the few simple words are implying?

Judging others is something that we all do to some extent. It is a natural human tendency to see someone doing something and pass judgment on them.

But what about the words of Jesus? Does what He said mean that we cannot or should not ever judge anyone?

Before we go any further, we need to look at the word, “judge”.

In the context that Jesus spoke these words, judge literally means condemn.

Some might think of judging as the harmless passing of opinions about someone for their appearance or their behavior.

But Jesus was telling us not to condemn. There is nothing harmless about condemning others.

It is, in fact, very harmful.

When we see others behaving in ways that are not rooted in righteousness, condemning that person will never help them.

There are times to correct someone, and there are times to pray for them. We need to lean on the Holy Spirit to show us how to handle each situation as we encounter them.

We need to understand that each action we take and every word that we speak should be done with redemption as the end goal.

Speaking harshly and outwardly condemning a person will do one thing; push them away from us.

This eliminates any opportunity we might have had to help them in a redeeming way.

So, let us remember that although a person’s behavior may not be what it should be, our goal as a follower of Christ should always be to create an environment where redemption should be our goal, even if we may never see that person again.

Looking down upon a person never brings good.

Redemption, and change in a person’s life, can come only when we treat others as the Holy Spirit leads us to do, and we work to bring redemption or restoration to them, not condemn them.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-10-22

Matthew 7:1-2 (NKJV) 1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

Judging or finding fault with others is a big thing with Christians, and it can become a problem.

We have not become perfect and without fault just because we have become a Christian.

We still sin and we still have many things to work on. We struggle with our weaknesses. They tend to show up and remind us of this every now and then.

So, why do we point out the faults of others and ignore our own?

Most times it is because we are trying to feel better about ourselves. We don’t want to have to deal with our own sins, so if we can find someone with what we would call a “more obvious or worse sin” we tend to point it out. It is a huge distraction for most of us.

We need to get our eyes off of others and pay attention to our own sin that needs dealing with.

Some of us our dealing with things that have been with us since our childhood.

Some of us our dealing with things that have happened while we were under some sort of abusive situation.

And others are dealing with sinful addictions that we have learned to hide very well, etc.

We all have our own faults/sins, so pointing out the sins of others, and talking about it, will not take God’s eyes off of ours. Let us deal with our own faults and pray for others that need a change of heart as well.

God is faithful to help us remain humble in our hearts while listening and watching others that need help in their walk as well as us.

Finding fault and judging won’t get us anywhere but in trouble.

Job 6:24 (NKJV) 24 “Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; Cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-18-22

Matthew 7:1 (NKJV) 7 “Judge not, that you be not judged.

The one thing we can learn not to do is judge others. How do we tell ourselves not to judge, and then follow through with it?

There is a way, and that is to remember and keep at the forefront of our minds that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

All of us have done things. And some of us continue to do things that are disturbing or sinful.

Some sins may seem bigger than others to us in our minds. But in God’s eyes, sin is sin.

Knowing and always remembering who we are and why we need salvation will keep us from judging or being so hard on  others.

Sometimes we need to know about a person’s situation, so we know where they are coming from. This may sometimes change our perspective, and help keep us from judging them incorrectly.

Let’s be careful that we are not judging and talking about others just because they may be a little different than what we would expect them to be.

We all have our sins and we all need to be forgiven for some things most days.

Bless and pray for our brothers and sisters, and even those that are difficult to be around. They need Him too. Amen.

James 5:16 (NKJV) 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-25-18

Psalm 119:7 (NKJV) 7 I will praise You with uprightness of heart, When I learn Your righteous judgments.

The Lord has His way of helping us to see things correctly when we listen and let Him teach us.

Our judgements of things and of people are off because our judgement is tainted. We are not perfect like Jesus and our Heavenly Father. They have righteous judgement. They are not wrong in their judgement. They are to the point and on target. They know exactly what is wrong in any given person or situation. And they know what it will take to fix the problem.

We can never reach a point in our walk with God where we think we can judge someone righteously and accurately, as God can. This is dangerous because we don’t see the whole picture; only bits and pieces.

God sees it all and He knows from start to finish how things will turn out. We have no place in playing God’s role.

Matthew 7:1 (NKJV) 1 “Judge not, that you be not judged.

Judge no one.

Let’s work on ourselves and praise God for all of His help in guiding us to a straight and narrow path. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-20-15

Matthew 7:1-2 (NKJV) 7 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

Each day, we all come into contact with many, many other people. We may not interact with all of them directly, in person, but we see them or pass by them in the course of our day.

As we see or come into contact with these people, we make a note in our mind about what we think of them.

We like them or dislike them. We think they are good or bad. We think they are moral or immoral. We think they are worthy of our time and attention or not, and many other things that we think in a matter of a few seconds. We pass judgment on them.

And we do this almost instantly, without really even making an effort to do so. It just happens. And we do this while knowing absolutely nothing about a person or their motives, their situation or their circumstances.

Each time we pass judgment on a person without knowing them or anything about them, our heart hardens a little more. And each new unfounded, groundless judgment causes a new layer of hardness to cover our heart.

Before we know it, our hearts are wrapped in so many hard layers and we feel justified in our judgments of others; self-righteous in our thoughts.

Bur God wants to break this terrible cycle in our minds. He wants to put an end to the way we see people and judge them needlessly.

And only He can break down the hardened layers that surround our hearts. Only He can show us who we really are and then help us to change. Without Him, we are powerless to change.

So many times when we judge others, we are so wrong, and our perception is so far off, yet we continue, day after day, doing this same thing.

Matthew 15:19 (NKJV) 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

People of God, it’s time for us to stop. It’s time to let God show us our thoughts and the damage that they do. And then we need to let Him break through those hardened layers that have encased our hearts, and destroy them once and for all.
