  • Bible Verse of The Day – 6-3-25

Luke 23:42 (NKJV) 42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

Yesterday, we asked a question, “what must I do to be saved”, and we began to build a foundation upon which we would find our answer.

We discussed what is not required to be saved; baptism, a public confession, reciting a specific prayer, walking an aisle, etc.

Now, some of you may already be balking at this, saying, “but what about…”

So, to peel away the many layers of half-truths or outright falsehoods, let us go directly to the source; God’s word. But more precisely, to the words of Jesus Himself.

The scripture at the beginning of this devotional shows us the words of a common criminal. He had been condemned to execution by crucifixion for crimes he had committed.

He and another criminal were crucified on either side of Jesus.

As the two criminals hung there on their crosses, one began hurling insults at Jesus, blaspheming His name.

Luke 23:39 (NKJV) 39 … “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.”

The other criminal immediately rebuked the first one, reminding him that they both deserved their punishment for the crimes they had committed.

He then turned to Jesus and spoke words that have lived down through the centuries, “remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

This phrase alone is remarkable. It shows incredible faith.

But what Jesus responded with is truly ground-breaking in its scope and inference.

    Let’s continue this tomorrow.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 6-2-25

Acts 16:30-31 (NKJV) 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved…

How is a person saved? What does it take for us to be redeemed from our sins? What must we do to go from death to eternal life?

There have undoubtedly been reports, books and theses written on this topic numbering in the millions over the last two thousand years. It is a topic of endless debate, largely due to human logic and overthinking.

The salvation of man is incredibly simple, yet profoundly deep beyond human understanding.

But to break it down, we must look at its most basic truth.

There are many verses throughout scripture that address what we must do to inherit eternal life and become a child of God.

The complication comes when we ask several different people, and we get a different or varied answer from each of them.

God’s word has told us plainly what we must do to be saved.

The most straight-forward answer can be found in the book of Acts; Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

That one phrase sums it up succinctly, with no fluff, no human interjection, and no debate.

    But man seems to be bent on complicating it by implying some or all the following “requirements”;

You must pray “the sinner’s prayer”.

You must walk the aisle at an altar call.

    You must be baptized.

You must publicly confess that you have become a Christian.

And the list goes on ad nauseum.

But not one of these things is truly required.

Let’s look more closely at this tomorrow.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 3-24-25

    Philippians 2:12 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Some people may read this verse and misinterpret it as meaning that we should live our lives in fear of God removing His salvation from us if we make one too many mistakes.

But this is not a correct assumption.

Yes, we need to make every effort to live our lives in a righteous manner that brings glory and honor to God. We should resist the devil and the temptations we encounter.

God’s word is very plain and direct about this. Our life is, after all, about bringing glory and honor to God in all we do.

But that does not mean that we live lives of dread, afraid of God smacking us down and turning His back on us.

At its foundation, this verse means that we are the ones responsible for our own walk with God.

We must be the ones who make the choices that please Him and represent Him well. And we must be the ones who put forth the effort to draw ever closer to Him.

No one can do this for us.

A pastor cannot do it for us.

A spouse cannot do it for us.

A priest cannot do it for us.

A bishop cannot do it for us.

Just as we must diligently work at a job, we must also diligently work at our salvation.

No, this does not earn us a place in heaven. Salvation is not by works.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

But we must see the importance of what God has given us by His grace, through the sacrifice and the death of Christ, and treat it with the importance that it deserves.

Let us diligently and faithfully work out our salvation with fear and trembling.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 1-9-25

Luke 2:30-31 (NKJV) 30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation 31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples…

We may think the Lord’s salvation is just for certain people. Those who carry themselves a certain way, those who seem like everything they do is perfect, those who are so good, happy, smiling, and full of joy all the time.

The Lord’s salvation is for all people; all colors, all races, all cultures.

His word says He did not come for the righteous or those that think they are better then everyone, but for the sick, those who need help, need healing, need strength, need deliverance, and need His love.

Mark 2:17 (NKJV) 17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

He is calling on all of us today. He is calling on our loved ones today, He is calling on all those who are sick and in need of healing.

Not just physical healing, but healing from the storms and trials of this life, healing from abuse, healing from the lies that the devil whispers in our ears at times, healing from the torment of what we’ve done to ourselves, the choices we’ve made that have caused us to be where we are today.

We need His salvation and He has made it so we can all have it.

Call on His name today. Put your faith and trust in Him and you shall be saved.

Jeremiah 17:14 (NKJV) 14 Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; Save me, and I shall be saved, For You are my praise.

    Amen.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 10-31-24

Acts 4:12 (NKJV) 12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Jesus Christ is the only Way to God! He is our Savior.

God made a way for us to have life after we leave this earth. This happens by us putting our faith and trust in His Son, Jesus Christ, while we are here on earth.

As a child, my parents made us children go to Sunday School; all 9 of us.

But, that isn’t what saved me.

Learning those lesson was good for me. But what saved me was when I walked to the front of the church and asked the Pastor to pray with me, as I believed that Jesus Christ was my Lord and Savior. I wanted to be forgiven for my sins and live for Him.

    Jesus is who saved me!

I was a child, and for sure didn’t know all the ins and outs at that time. But I knew in that little heart of mine that I wanted Jesus Christ!

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know the truth. It takes listening to our heart no matter our age, as the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sinful condition and draws us to Him.

John 14:6 (NKJV) 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Is He speaking to you today right where you are?

Cry out to Him and repent of your sins. Ask Him to forgive you and be your Savior. He is waiting for you!

Please reply to this message and write to us and let us know if you did pray today to be saved. We want to keep you in our prayers as well.

    God is faithful! Amen.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 4-12-24

1 Timothy 4:16 (NKJV) 16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

Throughout the body of Christ there are different interpretations of salvation and what it entails.

Faith in Christ is at the center of all the various ideas. But beyond that central focal point, things can get a bit murky. Hence, the many different denominations we see.

One of the areas where doctrines differ is how salvation actually plays out in the life of a believer.

But the verse above speaks precisely to this topic, spelling it out for us so there can be no doubts.

As Paul wrote to Timothy, he exhorted Timothy to be sure to do many different things in his ministry to the body of Christ.

In verse 16 above, he tells Timothy to take heed to himself and the doctrine. What does that mean?

Here is another translation that makes the message much clearer.

1 Timothy 4:16 (NLT) 16 Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.

From this we can see that Paul is encouraging Timothy to pay close attention to his actions and his teaching, being sure to stay true to what he has been taught, and what he knows is right.

Why is this important for him to do?

For the sake of his salvation and the salvation of others.

You see, Paul was stating that salvation is not a one-off experience. It is intended to be a lifelong walk.

It does not consist of a simple prayer spoken, a short walk down an aisle, or a conversion experience without our life showing fruit from that experience.

Jesus said, “go and sin no more” to the woman who had been caught in adultery (John 8:11).

And the foundational teaching of leaving our sinful ways behind as evidence of God’s hand on our lives is taught throughout the rest of the New Testament.

So, let us do as Paul instructed Timothy to do, taking heed to our actions and what God’s word instructs us regarding living sanctified lives, that we may show God at work in us and be an example that others may see, with the hope that it may also lead to their salvation.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 2-16-24

Ephesians 2:1-2 (NKJV) 1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,

There is so much to unpack in these two verses.

The incredible miracle of salvation is presented in this one short phrase; you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins.

It is hard for the human mind to comprehend that prior to Christ we were dead.

Our bodies were alive, but our spirits were not. They were dead in sin.

We once walked according to the course of this world. We were literally walking dead.

    Why?

Because we were walking and living according to the prince of the powers of the air; satan himself.

We may not have known that we were walking the path of the evil one. That is because we were not yet alive. We were simply following the ways of the world. We knew nothing else.

We may have even considered ourselves to be good people.

But we lived 100% by the flesh and its desires. Whether we recognized it or not, our goal in life was to satisfy our flesh.

But by the blood of Christ, we were washed. And by faith in Christ, we were raised from the dead.

We were made new, alive in Him!

Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

The enemy no longer owns us. We are now a child of God, the Most High, Creator of all we see.

Let us cast off the ways of the world, walking as the new creations that we have been made, giving glory and honor to Him who gave all to save us.

    Amen

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 2-1-24

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

As we work our way through this Essentials of Faith series, we will continue today by talking a bit more about our salvation.

The two verses above can give us a much better understanding of what salvation really is, and what it is not.

    What is salvation?

It is a gift offered to us; the gift of God.

It is God presenting a way for each of us to make ourselves right with Him.

    What is it not?

Salvation is not based on our works, or our ability to earn it. It cannot be earned.

Why can it not be earned?

Because salvation is never about bragging rights or favoritism.

God judges equally and fairly. He is not biased and does not show favor.

Sin is sin, and every one of us is equally guilty.

Therefore, when we are forgiven, we are equally forgiven.

Romans 3:23-24 (NKJV) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

Salvation is given freely to those who ask for it. If we fail or refuse to ask, or if we choose not to accept the gift that God has freely offered, we will not receive it.

    And how are we saved?

We are saved through faith, as shown in verse 8 of the opening scripture.

You see, if we cannot earn our salvation, we can never boast about it. We can never brag about what we did to gain it.

And because of this, we can never justifiably look down at or judge others.

If we have received forgiveness and redemption because of God’s favor, as a gift, who are we to then look at those around us who are still in sin and cast stones at them for their sinful state?

How quickly we forget how lost we once were, and how lost we would still be had it not been for God’s incredible grace and mercy.

  • Bible verse of The Day – 1-24-24

Luke 23:43 (NKJV) 43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

Today you will be with Me in paradise.

This short sentence spoken by Jesus makes a huge statement about salvation.

We have all heard at one time or another that salvation comes by responding to an altar call, or by speaking specific words, inviting Jesus into our heart.

While this might not necessarily be wrong, it is confusing at best.

Salvation is simple. Humans complicate it.

Jesus was within hours of His own death. He was hanging on a cross next to two criminals who were also being put to death by crucifixion.

One criminal mocked Him. The other defended Jesus, recognizing His innocence and surrendering to Him, and then asking Him to remember him when he came to His kingdom.

He recognized Jesus for who He was, the long-awaited Messiah, and surrendered to Him right there on his cross.

    What did Jesus do?

Did He tell the criminal that he needed to walk an aisle and accept an invitation to be saved?

Did He tell him that he must be baptized to be saved?

Did He tell him that he must confess his faith in Christ to others to be saved?

Did He tell him that he must pray “the sinner’s prayer” to be saved?

    Absolutely not.

The man had already proven his faith in Jesus by His repentance and the words he spoke. The change in his heart had already taken place.

Luke 23:40-42 (NKJV) 40 But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

Faith in Christ is a matter of the heart.

It is a choice we make within ourselves, as we recognize our own sinful state, to embrace the gift of salvation offered to us by God in His mercy and recognize the redemptive power of the shed blood of Christ, all in a split second!

In that moment, we move from death to life.

Tradition may say otherwise. It may tell us we need to do A, then B, and then C to be saved.

Let us be careful not to place boundaries on salvation that God did not create.

Acts 16:30-31 (NKJV) 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
