Bible Verse of The Day – 11-21-22

Philippians 2:12 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

“Work out your own salvation” is a phrase that carries a lot of weight.

It’s not a phrase we hear a lot about, but it should be.

Why?

Because it summarizes salvation in a way that lends solidity to salvation as a process, not just a single event. Let me explain.

Many people think of salvation only as a decision; a walk down the aisle at a church or other type of venue where the gospel is preached.

And while this is how salvation begins for many people, it is not intended to be the end of it.

This “step” is only the beginning; the time and place where we begin our lifelong walk as a child of God.

From that moment forward, we are responsible for walking it out; “working out our own salvation”, as Paul taught the Philippians.

This is the part where the rubber meets the road, and we are required to make choices every day that demonstrate who we are as a new creation in Christ.

Will making a bad choice disqualify us for “the prize”, as Paul referred to in 1 Corinthians 9:24?

No, but each choice we make should show us where our heart is in our relationship with God, the Creator and the Giver of life and breath. And it should help us to learn to grow and allow God to shape and mold us into who He desires us to be.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that some people don’t necessarily “walk down an aisle” to become a Christian.

Some just reach a point where they see their lost condition and reach out to God at a time and in a way that’s not seen by others. But the change in them is visible in their everyday lives, for others to see, as they grow and mature in God’s ways.

So, it’s important that each of us keeps putting one foot in front of the other, continually seeking God and learning of Him, that we may grow and mature as we work out our salvation with fear and trembling.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-7-22

John 8:24 (NKJV) 24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

I was just a little girl when I felt the love of Jesus Christ for the first time. It was like nothing I had ever felt. I felt a big lump of warmth and security like never before that came over my heart and soul.

I remember after I walked up the aisle to give my heart to Jesus, the pastor of the church picked me up and used me as an example to show that even little children can believe in Him.

Jesus Christ died for us all, no matter our age or our sin. He and His Father loved us all first.

1 John 4:19 (NKJV) 19 We love Him because He first loved us.

We must understand that without Him we will die in our sin. There is no other way to enter the kingdom of God but through Jesus Christ. He is the key that unlocks the door.

Be willing and open to Him! That is what it all boils down to.

Let the Lord God draw us in, that He may touch our heart and that we may believe and receive His gift of eternal life. Amen.

John 12:32 (NKJV) 32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-16-21

2 Peter 1:10 (NKJV) 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

There are a few things that I’d like to take a look at here today.

Here they are; be more diligent, make your call and election sure, you will never stumble.

These three things are super-important to our walk with God and with regard to our eternal destiny.

Peter starts this verse off by telling us to be more diligent. So, let’s take a look at why he says to be more diligent, and not just to be diligent in a general sort of way.

In order to figure this out, we need to go back, and start with verse 3.

There in verse 3, Peter tells us that God, by His divine power, has “given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness”.

So, He has equipped us. By doing this, He has given us assurance of our standing as a child of God.

How did He do this?

Take a look at the last half of verse 3; He did this “through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue”.

So, what does that mean? It seems a little foggy on the surface, so let’s break it down.

We each become a child of God through gaining an understanding of Jesus Christ and who He is.

Once we understand who He is, we put our faith in Him and we trust Him with the salvation of our souls, through repentance and the forgiveness of our sins.

That’s the long version of the phrase, “the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue”.

So far, we know this; that God gave us all things that pertain to life and godliness because we know who Jesus is and we trust Him with our eternal destiny.

Are you with me so far?

Then, in verse 4 he tells us that through these (the things mentioned in verse 3) “have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises”.

What are those promises?

That “you may be partakers of the divine nature”. And that you (we) have “escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust”.

Another word for “corruption” in this verse would be “depravity”. So, we have been given His divine nature, and we have escaped the depravity that is in the world through lust.

Whew! This is getting deeper, but hang in there. We will continue this tomorrow.

Stay tuned!

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-20-20

Numbers 21:8  (NKJV) 8 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.”

The fiery serpent in this verse represents a plague that God sent onto the people of Israel as punishment for rising up against Him and Moses, complaining about the food they were eating.

The serpents bit the people, and many of them died (Numbers 21:6-7).

The ones that were still alive came to Moses, repentant and remorseful for what they had said and done.

They asked Moses if he would pray to God to take away the serpents.

In response, God had Moses make a fiery serpent out of bronze and set it on a pole. The people that looked at it and had faith would be healed.

This allowed the people to receive divine healing and not die from the snake bites.

Jesus later spoke of this situation, referring to Himself and how He too must be lifted up, and whoever has faith and believes in Him will not die, but be healed and live forever.

His Crucifixion on that cross had to take place if we wanted to be set free from our sins.

John 3:14-15 (NKJV) 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

When we see with the eyes of our hearts, and believe what Jesus did for us on that cross for our sins, we will be healed and saved from our sinful state, we will have eternal life with Him!

It is by His stripes we were healed. Amen.

1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV) 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-21-20

Philippians 2:12 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

As I was beginning my day today, I was pondering on various things of God. I wasn’t thinking about any one thing in particular. Just the things of God in general.

As I was doing so, this verse came shooting into my spirit, like a rocket. More specifically, it was the latter part, “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”.

Let’s talk about this truth for a minute or two.

As we taught recently in our series on understanding the fear of God, if we are His child, we don’t need to walk around with dreadful fear that God is going to strike us down.

But this particular piece of scripture does show us that we need to take seriously our walk with God, our relationship with Him, our eternal salvation.

You see, nobody else can do this for us. No one can “get us into heaven”, so to speak.

People can pray for us, share God’s love and mercy with us and even teach us about salvation. But in the end, the responsibility for our eternal destiny, and our walk with God while we are here on earth, lies solely in our hands.

We have to make the choice to follow Him, and then endeavor to grow our relationship with Him.

We encourage you to take this seriously and do whatever is necessary to draw near to God and learn of Him. He is not harsh or hard. And His mercy endures forever.

Matthew 11:29 (NKJV) 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

And as we look at verse 13, which is actually the tail end of verse 12, above, we start to get the bigger picture.

Philippians 2:13 (NKJV) 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

God works in us through the Holy Spirit, prompting us and guiding us daily to intentionally and purposefully make right choices.

Why? For His good pleasure. To fulfill His purpose for us here on earth.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-6-20

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Being saved is a gift of God.

Don’t we all love gifts? I do! And this is one of the most beautiful, sacrificial, loving gifts I could have ever received.

I can’t even comprehend the depth of it all. But by faith I do receive the most awesome and amazing love that I could have ever had given to me.

We all have the opportunity to receive such a gift. It has been given to each one of us personally. And personally we have to receive it. Accept it and say yes to all that was done for us.

Along with receiving this gift, we must repent of our old ways. We need to surrender the way we were living and the things we were doing, and receive forgiveness for our sins.

We can’t earn this amazing gift. It is by grace that it was given to us. The only way to receive it is by faith.

Do you receive it today?

Dear God in Heaven,

I receive your gift of Salvation today. Please come into my life. I ask for Your forgiveness for the things I have done wrong. Help me to live the life You want me to live and give me the strength to follow after You.

I love you with my whole heart, today and forever. I want to be Your child and a good one at that. I want to please You. Teach me Your statutes.

In the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Psalm 119:33 (NKJV) 33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, And I shall keep it to the end.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-17-20

1 Peter 1:8-9 (NKJV) 8 … Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.

The end of your faith – the salvation of your souls.

This is the summation of everything we do here on earth, as we walk with God and live according to how He calls us to live.

We each walk with Him individually, uniquely, according to who He made us and what He asks us to do.

Sometimes we take baby steps. Other times we take giant steps.

Sometimes the places where our feet land are plainly visible before we ever step ahead. Other times, we step forward with very little visible evidence that our feet will land on something that’s solid, safe and stable.

But we step, nonetheless.

Why? Because we know that this walk is not just about the here and now, but about the eternal goal; the salvation of our souls.

It is this, our eternal salvation, that keeps us going, keeps us running the race, even when our own physical strength is long gone and we are relying purely on the power of God, by His Spirit, to complete the race.

Not only do we get to walk this earthly walk with God by our side, but we do so with the full expectation of spending eternity with Him.

Remember the end of our faith; the eternal salvation of our souls.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-9-19

1 Peter 1:24- 25 (NKJV) 24 because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, 25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.

This past year I have had some deaths in my family. My nephew, and my sister in law. They both are in Heaven and I am grateful for this. But it still makes you see some things very differently when death hits close to home.

It makes you think…” What about those that never hear the words of Christ and His message of salvation? What if they never heard about the Lord that endures forever?

My heart trembles. I am so sorry for those that never get a chance to understand what Christ has done for all of us.

I was blessed to be in a home where Mom and Dad found life and Salvation in Christ. And they introduced it to us at such a young age. Now, we were not a perfect family by any means. We had our trials along with our good times. Life was not easy all the time.

There was hurt, pain and sorrow we had to deal with. But it was faith and the words of God that got us through. And it kept us together.

Flesh will wither and the glory will fall away. But the Word of the Lord endures forever. It sticks!

Who or what are we holding onto today, and why?

God is our Rock! His Son, Jesus Christ, is our salvation. And the Holy Spirit is our Helper. What else do we really need in this life?

Our hearts cry out for those today who have not found Christ. They have not heard of the Gospel or have rejected it. Or maybe they did hear it, have received it and then have backslid and turned from it completely.

Together, may we reach them with His love.

Psalm 57:2 (NKJV) 2 I will cry out to God Most High, To God who performs all things for me.

Dear God in Heaven,

Bring us to those that need to hear your enduring Word. That they may receive the salvation that You freely give.

Oh, our hearts cry out for them today. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-15-18

Isaiah 43:11 (NKJV) 11 I, even I, am the Lord, And besides Me there is no savior.

People may think there are many ways to be saved and get to heaven. But it is very simply put in this verse, there is only ONE Savior and one way to salvation. That is believing and trusting in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

God sent Him to us, that we may live forever through Him for eternity.

1 John 4:9 (NKJV) 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.

The people that leave before us, that die, if they have put their faith and trust in Jesus, they shall be alive, safe and sound in His precious arms.

They are happy and rejoicing, surrounded by the perfect holiness of God. And when it is our turn to go home, if we believe in our Savior, we too will join in this beautiful celebration. Hallelujah!

He went to prepare a place for those that have received Him. And that is where we will reside.

John 14:3 (NKJV) 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

I can only imagine what it is like when I look up at the sky and out onto the ocean. When I listen to the sounds of the waves, the wind, the birds, the stillness in the lakes, oh how exciting it is to know that heaven will be even more lovely than we can imagine! How precious is our Savior!

Thank you, Jesus, for being our Lord, and for thinking of us always. Even unto death you have made provision for us.

We love you, Lord. Amen!

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-28-18

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

When I was a young adult and I was first introduced to the truth of salvation in Christ, it didn’t take me long to know that I needed Christ and I needed forgiveness for my sins.

But there was this nagging little thing inside of me that kept me from doing something about it. I thought that I had to clean myself up first, and then I could approach God and ask Him to make me His.

That kept me from doing what I knew I needed to do for quite some time. I stayed lost and unforgiven until one day I just pushed it all aside and ran to God.

This is more common than most of us realize. Even believers tend to wrestle with this sometimes. We make a bad choice, or a series of them, and we think we have to hide from God, afraid of what He thinks or what He will say if we approach Him.

But here’s what we need to remember. Jesus didn’t come and die for the righteous. He came and died for the lost… the sinner.

Mark 2:17 (NKJV) 17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Let’s be honest here. We don’t take one of our children who is well and healthy to the doctor. We take the one who is sick and in need of help.

So it is with us. We can’t hide ourselves away from God because we have done something wrong, committed sins that we think are too big for God to cleanse us from and forgive us for.

You see, once we go to Him, confess our sin and ask Him to forgive us, He forgives us. It’s that simple. There is no specific prayer we need to pray. There is no ritual we need to follow. There is not even a specific person we need to talk to about it.

We go directly to God and pour it out to Him. And do you know what happens when we do this? He forgives us. And that sin that we confessed to Him? He casts it far away from us. How far?

Psalm 103:12 (NKJV) 12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Stop trying to clean yourself up before you go to God. Come as you are. Let Him do the cleanup. He is much better at it than we are.
