  • Bible Verse of The Day – 12-15-23

Acts 16:29-31 (NKJV) 29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

What must I do to be saved?

This is the question asked of Paul and Silas by a prison guard.

It’s important to note what they didn’t say would save the guard in their reply to him.

They didn’t say churches will save us.

They didn’t say church attendance will save us.

They didn’t say pastors will save us

They didn’t say reading our Bible will save us.

They didn’t say doing good deeds will save us.

They didn’t say fasting will save us.

They didn’t say giving to the poor will save us.

They didn’t say living a right life will save us.

They didn’t say helping the elderly or those who are incapacitated in some way will save us.

They didn’t say being kind will save us.

They didn’t say being charitable with our finances will save us.

They didn’t say doing our best to refrain from sin will save us.

They didn’t even say believing that God exists will save us.

So, with that lengthy list of things that won’t save us, what exactly will save us?

There is only one way to be saved; by putting our faith in Jesus, the Way, the Truth, the Life.

He is the only Way to be saved.

John 14:6 (NKJV) 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

In that list above, it is important to note that we should be doing all those things. They are the traits of a follower of Christ.

But none of those things will give us eternal life or redeem us, offering us forgiveness for our sin.

Not even believing that God exists will save us. How can that be?

Take note that even the demons believe He exists, and they tremble.

James 2:19 (NKJV) 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!

So, let us be sure that we are not trusting in our good works to save us. They will not.

Only the blood of Christ can save us. And then only if we apply His blood personally, turning from our sins and putting our faith and trust in Him.

There is one Way; faith in Jesus Christ.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 10-25-23

Luke 10:17 (NKJV) 17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”

As the number of followers of Jesus multiplied, He spent time instructing a specific smaller group of them.

When He felt they were ready, He then sent them out on their own, in teams of two.

He wanted them to see and understand firsthand what it meant to be one of His disciples.

After a period of time, the length of which the Bible does not specify, they began to return home. And when they had all returned, they gathered and discussed what had happened.

The disciples were elated to share with Jesus, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name”!

As they shared this, Jesus spoke. And in verse 19 He said the following:

Luke 10:19 (NKJV) 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

He wanted them to know that what they experienced was not abnormal. It was exactly what should have happened because of the authority found in His name.

And then He went on to tell them of the authority that was being given to them for their future ministry work as they preached, taught, and spoke in His name.

He wanted them to understand the importance of their work. But He also wanted them to know that He was empowering them to do that work.

And then He warned them about something.

Luke 10:20 (NKJV) 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

You see, although Jesus understood their excitement and enthusiasm, He also wanted them to understand what was really at the heart of all this; their eternal destiny, their salvation.

And we should also understand this.

Many things cause excitement and enthusiasm. Many things can catch our attention. And none of this is inherently wrong. In fact, these things can be incredibly good.

But we need to make sure that the thing we pay the closest attention to, and the thing that excites us the most is our eternal salvation.

For nothing rises above this in the grand scheme of things.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 3-11-23

Acts 4:12 (NKJV) 12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

This verse is straight forward and right to the point. There is no other name.

No matter how we were raised, no matter what religious organization we belong to we need to make sure we know this very important truth.

And what name is it by which we must be saved?

Philippians 2:10 (NKJV) 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth…

No one will be standing. No one will be doing anything except bowing.

All will bow at the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. And those who don’t accept Him for who He is will not be saved.

Our prayer today is that those who are so lost in themselves, and those who once knew Christ, or those once walked with Him but have turned away and grown cold, may drink of the water which He offers them, as they bow their knee and trust in His name.

John 4:14 (NKJV) 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

    We praise You Lord!

  • Bible Verse of the Day – 2-24-23

    Galatians 2:11 (NJKV) 11 Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed;

As Paul penned these words, he did so with great concern.

He had learned that Peter, who had been sent to the Jews to bring them the gospel of Christ, had fallen to peer pressure and was now telling new Christians that they must be circumcised, as was the Jewish tradition.

This undermined the entire foundation of the gospel, insinuating that God’s grace was not enough, and that new believers had to fall back to Jewish traditions to be saved.

This was a grave perversion of the truth.

Paul found it necessary to confront Peter and correct Him, exposing his hypocrisy before all who were present, making it clear that traditions were not required.

Peter had, in fact, been living as a Gentile (despite being a Jew), walking in the freedoms of Christ prior to being swayed by the pressures of some of the Jews who finally persuaded him.

Galatians 2:14 (NKJV) 14 But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, “If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews?

Paul went on to warn Peter and the others that man is not justified (declared righteous) by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ. And that by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.

We are saved purely by faith in Christ.

It’s important that we not mix works, rituals and traditions with our faith, mistaking these things as being required for our salvation.

Yes, works are important, but only as an outward expression of our faith. Not as something that we must do to make ourselves holy or righteous (justified) in God’s eyes.

As for traditions and rituals? These are purely man-made and not required or useful in our walk with God.

God wants our hearts, plain and simple. So, let’s give Him what he asks for.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 2-22-23

Ephesians 2:1-2 (NKJV) 1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience…

You and I are the same. We are kindred in one thing; we have been made alive in Christ, saved by His grace and redeemed by the blood of Christ.

We once walked according to the flesh, being directed and led by the prince of the power of the air; the devil.

We were sons and daughters of disobedience.

But God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive in Christ. We have been saved by His grace.

Ephesians 2:4-5 (NKJV) 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

We are no longer dead in our sins but made fully alive in Him.

We were not saved by anything we did. We were not saved by our own efforts to please God or make ourselves righteous; our works.

We were saved by grace, through faith.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

We were not required to follow The Mosaic Law. We were not required to offer God a blood sacrifice. We were not required to go through Old Testament cleansing rituals.

We were required only to recognize our lost, sinful state, to repent of our sins, ask Him to forgive us and then put our faith in Christ as the Savior.

Jesus paid the price for you and for me. His blood washed us clean; white as snow.

For He was spotless and pure, like no other man who has ever walked the earth.

And now we walk with Him, letting Him teach us, guide us, shape us and mold us into who He wants us to be, leaving our old self behind, a distant memory.

And I’m glad to share this walk with you, my brothers and sisters in Christ.

    Amen.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 1-9-23

Luke 2:10 (NKJV) 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.

“Good tidings of great joy which will be to all people”. What a miraculous statement!

God sent an angel to proclaim this good news to some shepherds who were tending their flocks in a field outside Bethlehem.

The news itself was incredible; a Savior was born!

But look at the last part of that verse. What does it say?

It says, “which will be to all people”.

This Savior who was born was for all people!

He did not come for a specific people group. He didn’t come for a specific nationality. He didn’t come for a specific race of people.

    He came for “all people”!

This means that access to God and His redemption would no longer be restricted to the Jews, but to all people of the earth.

This was a new concept that many had trouble understanding. And some outright refused to accept it.

But God, in His infinite wisdom, carried out His plan to offer salvation to all people of the world, disregarding the preferences of some who thought they knew better.

And because of His faithfulness, you and I can be called sons and daughters of God.

John 1:11-12 (NKJV) 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

Jesus came to His own people, the Jews. And as they rejected Him on a large scale, He carried out God’s plans to offer salvation to the gentiles.

Today, children of God, followers of Christ can be found around the globe. People of every skin color, every nationality, every race, every ethnicity have put their faith in Jesus Christ.

Thank you, Lord, for offering salvation to every one of us, regardless of who we are. Your mercy is great, and your love for humanity is truly too much for the human mind to fully comprehend.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 11-21-22

    Philippians 2:12 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

“Work out your own salvation” is a phrase that carries a lot of weight.

It’s not a phrase we hear a lot about, but it should be.

    Why?

Because it summarizes salvation in a way that lends solidity to salvation as a process, not just a single event. Let me explain.

Many people think of salvation only as a decision; a walk down the aisle at a church or other type of venue where the gospel is preached.

And while this is how salvation begins for many people, it is not intended to be the end of it.

This “step” is only the beginning; the time and place where we begin our lifelong walk as a child of God.

From that moment forward, we are responsible for walking it out; “working out our own salvation”, as Paul taught the Philippians.

This is the part where the rubber meets the road, and we are required to make choices every day that demonstrate who we are as a new creation in Christ.

Will making a bad choice disqualify us for “the prize”, as Paul referred to in 1 Corinthians 9:24?

No, but each choice we make should show us where our heart is in our relationship with God, the Creator and the Giver of life and breath. And it should help us to learn to grow and allow God to shape and mold us into who He desires us to be.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that some people don’t necessarily “walk down an aisle” to become a Christian.

Some just reach a point where they see their lost condition and reach out to God at a time and in a way that’s not seen by others. But the change in them is visible in their everyday lives, for others to see, as they grow and mature in God’s ways.

So, it’s important that each of us keeps putting one foot in front of the other, continually seeking God and learning of Him, that we may grow and mature as we work out our salvation with fear and trembling.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 7-7-22

John 8:24 (NKJV) 24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

I was just a little girl when I felt the love of Jesus Christ for the first time. It was like nothing I had ever felt. I felt a big lump of warmth and security like never before that came over my heart and soul.

I remember after I walked up the aisle to give my heart to Jesus, the pastor of the church picked me up and used me as an example to show that even little children can believe in Him.

Jesus Christ died for us all, no matter our age or our sin. He and His Father loved us all first.

1 John 4:19 (NKJV) 19 We love Him because He first loved us.

We must understand that without Him we will die in our sin. There is no other way to enter the kingdom of God but through Jesus Christ. He is the key that unlocks the door.

Be willing and open to Him! That is what it all boils down to.

Let the Lord God draw us in, that He may touch our heart and that we may believe and receive His gift of eternal life. Amen.

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 2-16-21

    2 Peter 1:10 (NKJV) 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;

There are a few things that I’d like to take a look at here today.

Here they are; be more diligent, make your call and election sure, you will never stumble.

These three things are super-important to our walk with God and with regard to our eternal destiny.

Peter starts this verse off by telling us to be more diligent. So, let’s take a look at why he says to be more diligent, and not just to be diligent in a general sort of way.

In order to figure this out, we need to go back, and start with verse 3.

There in verse 3, Peter tells us that God, by His divine power, has “given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness”.

So, He has equipped us. By doing this, He has given us assurance of our standing as a child of God.

    How did He do this?

Take a look at the last half of verse 3; He did this “through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue”.

So, what does that mean? It seems a little foggy on the surface, so let’s break it down.

We each become a child of God through gaining an understanding of Jesus Christ and who He is.

Once we understand who He is, we put our faith in Him and we trust Him with the salvation of our souls, through repentance and the forgiveness of our sins.

That’s the long version of the phrase, “the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue”.

So far, we know this; that God gave us all things that pertain to life and godliness because we know who Jesus is and we trust Him with our eternal destiny.

Are you with me so far?

Then, in verse 4 he tells us that through these (the things mentioned in verse 3) “have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises”.

    What are those promises?

That “you may be partakers of the divine nature”. And that you (we) have “escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust”.

Another word for “corruption” in this verse would be “depravity”. So, we have been given His divine nature, and we have escaped the depravity that is in the world through lust.

Whew! This is getting deeper, but hang in there. We will continue this tomorrow.

    Stay tuned!

  • Bible Verse of The Day – 8-20-20

Numbers 21:8  (NKJV) 8 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.”

The fiery serpent in this verse represents a plague that God sent onto the people of Israel as punishment for rising up against Him and Moses, complaining about the food they were eating.

The serpents bit the people, and many of them died (Numbers 21:6-7).

The ones that were still alive came to Moses, repentant and remorseful for what they had said and done.

They asked Moses if he would pray to God to take away the serpents.

In response, God had Moses make a fiery serpent out of bronze and set it on a pole. The people that looked at it and had faith would be healed.

This allowed the people to receive divine healing and not die from the snake bites.

Jesus later spoke of this situation, referring to Himself and how He too must be lifted up, and whoever has faith and believes in Him will not die, but be healed and live forever.

His Crucifixion on that cross had to take place if we wanted to be set free from our sins.

John 3:14-15 (NKJV) 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

When we see with the eyes of our hearts, and believe what Jesus did for us on that cross for our sins, we will be healed and saved from our sinful state, we will have eternal life with Him!

It is by His stripes we were healed. Amen.

1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV) 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.
