Bible Verse of The Day – 8-8-23

1 Thessalonians 2:18 (NKJV) 18 Therefore we wanted to come to you—even I, Paul, time and again—but Satan hindered us.

As believers, we’d like to think we are untouchable or exempt when it comes to satan’s attacks on our family, our jobs, our friends, etc.

But even Paul says that satan hindered him from getting to where he needed to go.

The notes in my study Bible tell me that his undefined blocking of Paul caused Paul great emotional turmoil and he ended up having to send Timothy instead.

1 Thessalonians 3:6 (NKJV) 6 But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and brought us good news of your faith and love, and that you always have good remembrance of us, greatly desiring to see us, as we also to see you—

Knowing this, we need to be aware that there will be times when we will be fought and hindered from trying to do God’s work.

When this happens, it can be discouraging.

We need to stay focused, through prayer, and sometimes fasting, following the leading of the Holy Spirit.

If we need to make a change in the plan, it’s OK. God will see to it that He gets the results He wants either way.

Stand strong and resist the enemy, and he will flee.

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

God will go ahead of us and work out the details as we stay submitted to Him even through the fiery darts. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-2-22

James 4:7-8 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Many believers endeavor to defeat satan in their lives.

They read books. They watch videos. They seek answers from other believers.

It seems to be quite the mystery for so many people. Because of this, they struggle with sin year after year.

And this constant struggle with sin leads to other things, such as depression, a constant feeling of defeat, or possibly even a withering and drying up of their faith.

That’s right. They walk away from God because they feel like there is no possible way to defeat the enemy in their lives.

The problem with this is that their expectations aren’t realistic. Why? Because they want God to defeat the enemy for them.

They pray for God to do so. They have others pray with them for God to make it happen. They stand in prayer lines and have people lay hands on them for the same reason.

And yet, their lives don’t change. The devil is not defeated in their lives.

So, what’s the answer to this dilemma? How can satan be defeated once and for all in the life of a believer?

Submit to God. Resist the devil.

Both of those phrases require action on the part of the believer. And yes, they require work; sometimes very hard work.

Submitting to God requires humility on our part. We have to admit that we need Him and that we’re unable to do this on our own.

Resisting the devil is also hard work. Sometimes it’s extra hard.

But here’s the key to this whole thing; if we submit to God, resisting the devil becomes a whole lot easier!

It’s our submission to God that helps us fight off temptation and sin. Once we have submitted to Him, everything about us begins to change. The more we submit to Him, the more He changes us.

And when we allow Him to radically change us, the enemy no longer has that death grip on our lives.

Submit to God. Resist the devil.

That’s how we defeat the enemy in our lives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-9-21

John 14:30 (NKJV) 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.

The ruler of this world is satan. But Jesus says that, even though satan may be the ruler of this world, “He has nothing in Me“!! This means that satan had no foothold on Jesus. He had no power or authority over Him. Ever!

Jesus did what His Father told Him to do, and only that. Nothing more and nothing less.

Jesus’ time to be crucified for our sins had come. He was ready. It is what He came to this earth for.

The devil didn’t do this to Him. It was all part of God’s plan, to set us free from our sin.

The sacrifice that needed to be made had to be pure. It had to be spotless and free of blemishes in order for us to be saved from our sins.

It was all done for one purpose; that we may see the love Jesus has for His Father.

He obeyed His Father and His Father’s will, even to death on the cross.

John 14:31 (NKJV) 31 But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here.

This is an example for us all, to love the Father so much that we obey His commandments.

We don’t let satan have a foothold over us. We don’t let him play and tease us.

No, we don’t let him have anything over us.

No greed, no jealousy, no hatred, no pride, no anger, no fear, no fornication, no lust, etc.

We must not let these types of things have any part of us.

If they do, we need to get rid of them.

Let the Holy Spirit guide our steps and help us to remove them from our hearts, and to get clean and right with God.

Get to a place where we can say, like Jesus said, satan “has nothing in me.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-13-20

John 10:10 (NKJV) 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Why does the thief come? To steal, to kill, to destroy.

This is his sole reason for coming.

Knowing this, we have to keep him out and away from us. The Bible tells us how to do this in two words, submit and resist.

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

We submit ourselves, our problem, our flesh to God. And we resist the devil by obeying what God tells us to do in His word when we are confronted with temptation and sin.

It’s not easy to do at times. But it’s worth the effort.

Our flesh will fight, scream and cry. We will get angry, have an attitude and sometimes not listen to what God is telling us to do.

But, if we stand our ground, resist the devil and his attempt to pull us into sin, we will come out winning.

We will walk in this “more abundant life” that Jesus gives to us, and not look back!

Submit and resist; two words to remember every day that will give us a closer relationship with God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-29-19

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Temptation is something that we all deal with on a daily basis. Even Jesus dealt with it.

So, whether we deal with temptation or not isn’t the question or the issue. The real issue is how we deal with it when it comes.

Jesus used the word of God to rebuke the enemy when he tempted Him. For each time that the devil tempted Him, He responded with a specific scripture. And while that worked well for Jesus, sometimes we might not have specific verses pop into our minds right away to use.

As we study God’s word more, it will tend to become easier and easier to remember specific verses, which can really help us ward off temptation.

But sometimes we might need to deal with it in other ways or take additional actions in order to fend it off successfully.

The thing is that this tends to get over-complicated by many people. Really, though, it’s quite simple. The verse above says to resist the devil and he will flee from us.

This doesn’t require us to quote scripture. It doesn’t require us to bind the devil. It doesn’t even require us to pray. It only requires that we genuinely, earnestly resist him. Period.

Here’s the key to successfully resisting the devil and keeping him from coming back again and again with a particular temptation or sin: learn to hate the sin and what it does to us and those around us.

That’s right. Hate the sin. Until we despise the sin that’s destroying us and our family, we will forever return to it, only to have it eat away at us one little piece at a time, until it has destroyed us.

Alcohol, drugs, lust, porn, stealing, lying, adultery, you name it. They will all kill us eventually if we don’t learn to hate them and walk away from them. That may sound blunt and direct, but it’s that simple.

It’s up to us to do something to change it. Nobody else can stop us from falling into sin when we’re tempted. Not our family, not our friends, not even God. They can all give us guidance, encouragement, direction, love and mercy.

But until we learn to hate the sin, and actually make a choice to stop, we will be like a dog returning to its vomit.

Proverbs 26:11 (NKJV) 11 As a dog returns to his own vomit, So a fool repeats his folly.

Let’s stop behaving like dogs and allow God to set us free. Let’s see the sin for what it is and what it is doing to us and the ones we love.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-18-17

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Is someone you know having trouble doing the right thing, resisting sin and temptation?

How about you? Are you having trouble resisting the devil and living a righteous lifestyle?

Why is that? Why do some people just seem to have so much trouble turning away from evil and doing right?

It’s all about submission. It’s about who we submit ourselves to.

If we submit to God, our lives will reflect that, and we will live a life that’s a reflection of God’s nature.

This doesn’t mean that our lives will be perfect, or that we will never make mistakes or make bad choices. But the big picture will show people who know us that God is alive in us and moving in our lives.

If, however, our lives are submitted to the devil, they will reflect that. Attitudes will be poor. Actions will be ungodly. Fruit, if there is any, will be rotten. So it’s critical that we make sure we are submitted to God.

Submission requires humility. Humility can be tough for us sometimes, because it means that we have to admit that we are wrong and that we need help. Some people wrestle with this more than others. But we all need help in this area at one point or another.

So let’s determine in our hearts today to humble ourselves and submit ourselves to God, so we can resist the devil. And as we do this, he will flee from us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-12-15

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

We have an adversary… an enemy, the devil.

He has one purpose; to wreak havoc on us and do as much damage as possible in our lives.

That might seem like pretty heavy duty stuff. And it is!

But we don’t have to be a victim of this adversary. Why? Because God has equipped us to be able to thwart his attacks.

The enemy will try to attack us from many different angles. Some attacks will come in a general sort of way. While other attacks will come as temptations.

When it comes to those general attacks, we can pray for God’s protection over our homes and our families, so that when attacks do come the damage is minimal or nonexistent.

When it comes to personal attacks, where we are tempted by the enemy, God has instructed us specifically about this and how to handle it. It’s not complicated.

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

This might seem over-simplified, but it’s really not. God gave us free will. And we have the freedom to choose what we do on a daily basis, from one minute to the next.

So the next time the enemy comes knocking on our door, dangling a temptation in front of us, we don’t need to get hot and sweaty, anxious or antsy.

We simply need to tell him “no” and then turn and walk away from the temptation. And as we do this more and more, it will get easier and easier for us.

Soon, we will be a pro at resisting his attacks.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-31-15

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Choosing what is right versus what is wrong is how we resist the devil and shut the door on him, so to speak.

A good example of not shutting the door would be people living together or having sexual intercourse without being married. When we do this, we open the door to him.

We can’t blame anyone for our messed up situation when we have made poor choices, because we can choose to keep the doors closed.

Many times we wonder why we are having trouble keeping a good relationship. Many times it’s because we let the devil have his way right off the bat and he comes in to destroy it.

If we have a tendency to use vulgar language, that is another door the enemy can waltz in through. Or if we like watching movies and they have vulgarity and profanity in them. When we play them in our homes or we go and watch them in the theater, the door gets opened for satan to waltz in and say, “thank you. You just gave me permission to come in.”

How about when we get angry and start yelling and saying things that we are not supposed to be saying? Another open door. Do we have control and manipulation issues? These are other doors for him to come in through and have his way.

There are many doors he tries to come through, but God gives us the strength to say “NO” and resist him, as we submit to God. And when we choose to resist him, he has to flee, according to God’s word!

Shut the door to the devil, live a good clean life and enjoy it! Amen.
