Bible Verse of The Day – 11-30-18

Matthew 5:5 (NKJV) 5  Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.

Listed below are many words that are the opposite of being meek. These are things to watch out for in our behavior, attitudes and our actions.

Arrogant, bumptious, conceited, egotistic (or egotistical), haughty, highfalutin (also hifalutin), high-and-mighty, high-handed, high-hat, hoity-toity, huffy, imperious, lordly, overweening, peremptory, pompous, presuming, presumptuous, pretentious, self-asserting, self-assertive, supercilious, superior, and uppity.

If we find ourselves acting out in any of these ways, it’s a good indication that we are not walking in the meekness that God has called believers to walk in.

No matter who we are or what position we hold, if we are God’s child, a believer, a Christian, etc., He wants us to learn to walk according to His word.

Many people may hear the word “meek” and immediately think of being weak. But walking in meekness takes discipline beyond what we could ever do on our own. Meekness is a strength that comes from our Lord.

Meekness stands tall and rises up on the inside of us in the hardest times. And with discipline, it does exactly what God leads us to do in that moment, in that very hour. Whether it’s to speak up, be still, step out in faith or hold back and wait till the appropriate time, being meek and humble is a requirement.

When we walk in such meekness, we will learn that having things our own way will not be an issue any longer. We will learn to restrain our tongue and our thoughts. We will learn not to act out of our emotions, but to be patient and wait for God’s understanding, wisdom and timing.

Meekness is a muscle that needs to be strengthened in all believers. And by doing so we shall see beautiful fruit from it.

Proverbs 15:23 (NKJV) 23 A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-5-16

Psalm 37:11 (NKJV) 11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Meek does not mean weak!

We want to make sure that everyone understands the difference between meek and weak.

meek: having or showing a quiet and gentle nature: not wanting to fight or argue with other people

Notice that it says nothing about being weak?

Similar words might be “humble” or “unpretentious”. Again, nothing about being weak.

Jesus was meek. He was humble and avoided conflict, yet He was the epitome of power and authority!

Jesus taught His disciples to exercise restraint when it came to conflict with others. He set the example by using the power of words and the power of the Holy Spirit to do battle in the spirit realm. But He never battled In the natural. Not once.

He rebuked Peter when he cut off the ear of one of the soldiers who came to take Him captive, just prior to His crucifixion.

And yet, while teaching us to be meek, He also promised that we would receive power.

Luke 24:49 (NKJV) 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

As followers of Christ, we are to be meek (humble), but powerful. We are to be strong but not overbearing, obnoxious or confrontational.

Our battles are to be fought in the spirit realm, not in the natural.

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 (NKJV) 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds…

So let’s remember; meek does not mean weak. And the power that we have been given is to be used to battle the spiritual forces of darkness, to defeat the enemy and his demons.
