Bible Verse of The Day – 8-2-23

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

During our lifetimes as a follower of Christ, we will see and hear many people claiming to have a word for us from God.

We will hear teachings on many different topics, all supposedly based on God’s word.

We will have people tell us that God wants to bless us, or that He wants to anoint us for a specific task.

We will see groups of people, some of them exceptionally large, following teachers who tell them how good their lives can be.

Our walk with God will be a lengthy obstacle course full of things that we will need to discern and determine whether they are of God or not.

How do we do this?

How do we accurately discern these things and know who or what to believe as truth?

Simple.

Go back to the word of God.

The word of God is our measuring stick. It is the standard by which everything we see and hear is validated or proven to be false.

Sometimes the things we hear are plainly false. We know it the second we hear it.

Other things might not be quite so cut and dry.

Many falsehoods are skillfully wrapped in tidbits of truth but are really lies in a pretty package.

This is why it is critical for us to always go back to the word of God.

As we spend time studying, learning, researching, growing, and maturing, we will gain a more solid understanding of His word that will help us break through the confusion and peel back the layers of false teachings.

And this will make the truth glaringly obvious to us, allowing us to toss away the heresy that masquerades as the genuine article.

Always go back to the word of God!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-8-23

2 Peter 2:1-2 (NKJV) 1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.

False teachers and false prophets are nothing new. They have been around for centuries.

They are still here today.

Their teachings and false prophecies are dangerous to the body of Christ. They always have been.

But today they are more dangerous because they are more easily propagated.

Modern media has created a way for false teachings to be passed around and put before the eyes and ears of millions who otherwise would not hear them.

This is one of the biggest causes of the mass spreading of these heresies.

Many of today’s cultures are also much more inclined to fall prey to these false teachers and false prophets because society today is largely self-centered, with strong desires to promote self, rather than elevating God to His rightful place.

This is the root cause of “itching ears”.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 (NKJV) 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

So, it is imperative that we not allow ourselves to be persuaded by these false teachers, trading the truth for words that make us feel good or justify our less-than-righteous desires.

God’s word is our lifeblood and the shield that helps to guard our hearts from the deceitful words of the false teachers who speak as if to sway us and move us away from the truth.

Hold fast to God’s word, partaking of it as if your life depends on it.

Why? Because our lives do depend on it!

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-23-22

Jeremiah 23:25-26 (NKJV) 25 “I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in My name, saying, ‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ 26 How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies? Indeed they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart…

I’ve recently been working my way through the book of Jeremiah again. Jeremiah is a fascinating book that continues to teach me new things every time I read through it.

Last week I began to notice a common thread in many of the things that God spoke to Jeremiah regarding prophets. And what He said hit home, reminding me of many of the things we are seeing today.

As we have watched current events unfold over the last two years, I have also seen a marked increase in many so-called prophets of God who have prophesied many things that have proven not to be true.

They have spoken what people wanted to hear, not what the Spirit of God was saying. They have spoken of dreams and visions, but those have all proven to be false.

Yet, in all of these false “words from God”, these pretend prophets have gathered unto themselves hundreds of thousands, or perhaps even millions, of people who follow them and hang on their every (false) word.

It would behoove the body of Christ to pay close attention to the Spirit of God. He is more than willing to show us what is true and what is false. And it’s safe to say that He is actively doing so each day.

We just have to be willing to hear Him.

Please don’t misconstrue this as a condemnation of every person who claims to speak prophetically. It is not meant to be that.

What it is meant to be is a warning, a gentle nudge for the body of Christ, that we may all be awake and alert in these important times in which we live.

If there are words that we are hanging on each day, they should be the words that God has given us; The Word of God. Not something uttered from the mouths of modern-day fortune tellers, many of whom are nothing more than wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Test the spirits. God is faithful to show us what is real and what is not.

1 John 4:1 (NKJV) 1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-21-20

Matthew 7:20 (NKJV) 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

As Jesus was nearing the end of the Sermon on The Mount, He began to draw distinctions between different kinds of things.

In this, He alluded to two different paths, two different kinds of builders and two different groups of people.

One path leads to destruction. The other leads to life.

One builder builds on the rock, the truth. While the other builder builds on sand, deception and lies.

One group of people spoke the name of Jesus, prophesied in His name and claimed to be His followers. But their words were tainted and deceitful, being spoken with impure motives of deception and greed.

The other group loved God and followed Him sincerely, giving Him their whole heart.

In verse 15, Jesus specifically discussed false prophets. He told the people that they would know these false prophets by their fruits.

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV) 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

Most times when we hear verse 20, we think of it as knowing believers by their fruits. In reality, though, Jesus was speaking directly about false prophets and false teachers.

So, let’s talk about that for a few minutes.

How do we know false teachers and false prophets? By what they say and what they teach.

Do they share the word of God in its entirety, in all of its truth and power, including those things that might not be so comfortable?

Or do they tend to avoid the topics that might be tough or uncomfortable, and move onto the things that are easier to hear and might not cause any kind of discomfort or controversy?

Do the words they speak focus mostly on how to get wealthy? Does their “gospel” revolve around money and success?

Do they speak only about “positive” things, but never address or discuss sin and its consequences?

Do they proclaim freedom from sin and bondage by the blood of Jesus? Or do they proclaim wealth, social acceptance and happiness for all believers in His name?

This is something that we all need to understand. We all need to know the difference between the truth and the lies.

We need to learn to recognize it. Why? Because our eternal destiny depends on it.

As Jesus continued to speak, He drew a very clear line of distinction between the path that leads to life and the path that leads to destruction.

And He did so with no apologies, as He said these words:

Matthew 7:21-23 (NKJV) 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Beware of false prophets and false teachers.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-1-20

Matthew 24:24 (NKJV) 24 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

We are living in an age where we are beginning to see many of these kinds of things materialize and play out, right before our eyes.

As we have mentioned in other devotionals recently, spiritual activity is heightening. Evil activity is on the rise.

Sadly, there are millions upon millions of people who may never recognize many of these things unless it is very blatant, and right in their face.

We need to understand that much of what is spoken in the verse above is symbolic, not literal. Let me explain.

A false christ or a false prophet is not necessarily someone who will come and outwardly declare that they have evil intent. On the contrary, they will come looking much like the real thing, the genuine article, so to speak.

Some of this also refers to spirits, not physical people. Spirits of deception (antichrist spirits) will run rampant and sow chaos, while seeming to offer justice and solutions to the world’s problems.

1 John 2:18 (NKJV) 18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.

The Bible says they will point people away from God, and toward themselves or toward an organization that will offer world peace, and end to hunger, poverty and other centuries-old problems, all through a leader or group of leaders who will govern the world as one.

Again, they will speak words that soothe and satisfy itching ears of people with little or no understanding of the true things of God. But their words are more lies than truth, and only lead to destruction.

2 Timothy 4:3 (NKJV) 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;

It will be only by the discernment of the Holy Spirit that they will be recognized as false. It will only be by sharp discernment that their devices will be seen clearly.

Luke 12:56 (NKJV) 56 Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?

It is critically important that we recognize things for what they are.

We need to ask God to help us see and hear beyond the noise, and hear His voice clearly.

We can’t do this by the opinions of others. We can’t do it by the voices that shout at us from the TV screens, the radio stations, the computer screens and the speakers of our smartphones.

We can do this by the Spirit of God, and Him alone.

Let us break free of the shackles that this world will try to enslave us with and cling steadfastly to the word of God; the Word that brings truth and light into every situation.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-4-20

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV) 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

I know what it’s like to be taught something that you think it is real and right, but then eventually find out that it is a lie or a counterfeit. It can make you want to just give up.

You are crushed. You hurt. And everything you knew no longer matters. You feel empty and alone. I know this feeling.

The truth of the matter is that it’s not a bad thing, in spite of how it makes us feel. Lies need to be exposed. And even though it makes us feel terrible, it’s something that has to happen if we want our walk with God to be built on a foundation of truth.

It can be very helpful to know the truth about people and situations at times. We don’t ever want to live a lie just because it feels good or because we like the atmosphere and the people associated with it.

We were attending a church many years ago. In this church, they started off really sincere in what they were doing. But somewhere along the road, they got off track and things began to change.

The leaders began to let in a mixture of various other teachers, pastors, etc. And as that mixture spoke from the pulpit, it was given a voice. It was given authority.

This is very dangerous. It filled the congregation, and the people received it to be truth. And they got messed up by it. They were “off”, and became spiritually sick. This is how some leaders can hurt people and cause those people to fall away from God.

Have you been hit with the “mixture”? A little of this and a little of that?

Most of it sounds good, feels good and even seems good. But deep down there is this nagging little feeling saying, “something’s not quite right about this”.

Don’t ignore it. That may be Truth, the Holy Spirit, touching your heart, prompting you to take a deeper look.

Jesus says, “I am the Truth” in John 14:6. Let Him guide us in all things.

Man has a way of adding his own agenda or his own “twist” to things. Make sure we compare what we are being taught to God’s word.

There are some wolves in the pulpit, doing some weird stuff. But the eyes of our heart will spot it if we listen closely and watch.

Matthew 7:20 (NKJV) 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

We are here for you if you are experiencing this behavior. Please write or call us and we will do our best to help. You are not alone.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-24-19

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV) 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

When Jesus says to beware, what is He saying?

To beware of something means to be cautious and alert as to the danger of it. In other words, we need to be on guard, be alert.

Jesus compares false prophets to ravenous wolves. Ravenous wolves are considered very dangerous, vicious animals. They will bite and kill whatever they come in contact with.

These false prophets that we are to watch out for come to us in disguise. They appear to be gentle and harmless on the outside. But inside they are devious, and their motives are not what we think.

How can we discern them when we can’t see what people are like on the inside? The Bible tells us we will know them by their fruit.

Matthew 7:17 (NKJV) 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

We look, we listen, we see with our own eyes and we will hear with our own ears what kind of fruit they produce.

Some things will stand out and be very loud and clear. Other things may be a little harder to discern, but the Holy Spirit will help us.

Take heed. Don’t be misled, and then when we are hurt, blame it on God or run away from Him.

He warns us.  We must be on our toes and discern the things around us. If we see them, don’t stick around to get bit. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-30-19

Malachi 3:6 (NKJV) 6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

God is the one Constant that we can all count on. He does not change. He does not compromise His truths and principles.

People compromise. People change. Societies change. Ways of thinking change.

But why is it that we expect God to bend and change to suit the whims of the people? Why does society expect God to suddenly become flexible in the principles that He established at the foundations of the world?

We are living in dangerous times. Black and white have faded and merged into a comfortable shade of gray for so many. What once was very wrong is now becoming more and more acceptable.

Well-known people of faith are falling away in record numbers, taking many of their followers with them. And as they make their exit, they extol virtues and ideologies that are blatantly contrary to God’s word.

As followers of Christ, children of God, we need to be ever so careful about what we take in and digest each day.

As we have said so many times in the past, we need to use God’s word as the measuring stick for absolutely everything that we hear and see. Does it line up with God’s word? Does it contradict His truth?

This is how we will know whether the people we look to for leadership are truly disciples of Christ, or people of weak faith (or no faith at all), masquerading as sheep while truly being wolves.

We implore you, stay ever so close to God during these times of mass falling away.

Mark 13:22 (NKJV) 22 For false christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if  possible, even the elect.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-6-18

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV) 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

It’s sad we have to watch out for this kind of behavior in the church, but Jesus warned us for a reason. He knew that the enemy would stop at nothing to try to deceive us.

The enemy uses counterfeit spirits and counterfeit moves of God to pull us off track.

What does counterfeit mean? To make in exact imitation of something valuable or important with the intention to deceive or defraud.

When the devil wants to deceive us, he will do exactly this. He is going to make his deceitful ways look as much as he can like the real deal. He’s sneaky. And he uses people, even so-called prophets.

It can be very hard to know what he is up to if we try to spot it on our own. But, with the help of the Holy Spirit, it’s a different story.

There have been wonderful ministers, and people in leadership positions that have fallen because of the counterfeit working its way in and taking over.

Pray for the body of Christ today, that we will see what the enemy is up to, through discernment of the Holy Spirit, before it hits us and our church. That together we may stand up in the name of Jesus Christ and deal with it accordingly!

We need to make sure we don’t give the counterfeit, or false prophets, a voice or a place to settle into.

Kick out the enemy, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-30-17

1 John 4:1 (NKJV) 4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

God tells us plainly that we are to test the spirits. Not everyone who names the name of Jesus is genuine or is operating by the spirit of God.

Many will come in an effort to deceive us. Some will be very subtle. Others will be blatant in their efforts. It’s those who use subtlety that we need to be the most concerned with.

Most will use the name of Jesus very boldly, making it appear that they are accurate with the things they speak, and are sent by God.

Speaking something that we don’t necessarily agree with doesn’t make someone a false prophet. But if what they speak is contrary to the word of God, or it twists the word of God for their own purposes and agendas, then we need to be cautious and weigh what they say very carefully.

The biggest danger always lies with those who wrap lies in the truth. This is common when scripture is taken out of context, or when truth is used to lead people to believe a lie. These are the ravenous wolves Jesus spoke of.

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV) 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

On the outside, they appear as sheep, speaking words of truth. But under the surface, they propagate lies that masquerade as truth.

It’s important that we take the things that we are taught, and the things that we hear, and we weigh them carefully next to the word of God.

You see, even evil spirits will speak words of truth through men and women. It’s up to us to let God’s spirit help us to discern them and divide truth from lies.

Silas and the Apostle Paul ran into this when they were on their way to prayer, many days in a row. A young girl followed them and declared “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.”

But Paul, who allowed the spirit of God to show him what this was really about, saw that this was a spirit of divination. He became irritated with the girl and put a stop to it.

Acts 16:18 (NKJV) 18 And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour.

So, we need to pay close attention to people’s words and discern them accurately. It can mean the difference between following truth and following lies.

Test the spirits.
