Bible Verse of The Day – 8-14-20

Numbers 11:33-34 (NKJV) 33 But while the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the Lord was aroused against the people, and the Lord struck the people with a very great plague. 34 So he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had yielded to craving.

The Israelites had a habit of whining.

It didn’t seem to matter what God did for them, they would whine and cry out to Him for something different than what He had provided.

On this particular occasion, they had mumbled and complained about having to eat manna for far too long. They wanted meat.

Their complaints irritated God to the point where He said that He would send meat. In fact, He said that He would send so much meat that they would eat it until it came out their nostrils!

Numbers 11:19-20 (NKJV) 19 You shall eat, not one day, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days, 20 but for a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you…

And so, God provided Quail for them to eat.

Many of the people lusted after the Quail so badly that they literally stayed up day and night, collecting as much as they could possibly gather.

And this is where it gets interesting.

As the people who had so badly desired meat began to eat what they had gathered, while they were literally still chewing it, God struck them with a plague and they died.

Because of this, the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah.

Kibroth Hattaavah literally means “graves of craving” or “the graves of sensuous desire”.

It was their lusting, their sensuous desire for what they didn’t have, that brought death upon them.

This is an excellent lesson for us to learn from. It shows how lusting after something, even something that’s not sexual in nature, can kill us if we’re not careful.

It’s important to note that we live under God’s grace, because we are in the time of the New Testament (Covenant). So, we seldom see God move in this way, striking tens of thousands of people dead with a plague.

But He is still God. And He does not change. So, it is good that we learn from this and not play the part of the Israelites, arousing God’s anger over and over again.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-19-20

Romans 1:20-21 (NKJV) 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

We are living in a time when wrong is right, and right is wrong. Everything is backwards.

It’s not hard to see that much of the world seems to have gone crazy. Are you constantly amazed and shocked by the level of sin and immorality that you see around you? Even common sense seems not to be so common any longer.

As the world has very openly rejected God and His truth, the downhill slide of immorality seems to be accelerating. This is to be expected when God is driven out of every aspect of our societies and cultures.

A Godless society is destined to fall very deep into darkness and depravity. Hence, the things we see today in very large numbers around the globe.

You see, God offers His mercy to us freely. But when man largely rejects Him and His goodness over and over again, He will eventually give them over to the very things that they pursue; idolatry, murder, lust, greed, etc.

When this happens, we begin to see levels of sin and depravity that we may never have imagined could be so. And these very people eventually reap the results of their behavior.

Romans 1:26-27 (NKJV) 26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

This is why it’s so important that we pray and seek God, living our lives as examples of His light, His love and His mercy, that we might rescue even one from the depravity that this world is falling into, just as we have been rescued by that very same love and mercy.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-19-17

2 Peter 1:3-4 (NKJV) 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Let’s talk about lust for a moment, and the problems it can cause. Corruption in this world has come through the simple actions of lust.

When we think of the word lust, we automatically think of sex. But to lust means to crave pleasure or delight. To wish, to have intense longing, craving, enthusiasm and eagerness, but not just for sex.

If we lust after money, we become greedy. If we lust after power we become prideful, controlling and arrogant. If we lust after women or men we become fornicators or adulterers. If we lust after anything in any way, it will eventually lead to corruption.

Lust will drive us to do things that we don’t normally do. It changes our attitudes and it hardens our hearts. It blindsides us and causes us to push the important things in life aside. It ruins and destroys marriages, families, friendships, businesses and ministries.

It takes what God makes beautiful and tries to destroy it.

How do we escape from lust today?

By reaching out and grabbing hold of God’s divine power, and His knowledge, through His Precious Son Jesus Christ, that we may overcome it and live a godly life.
