Bible verse of The Day – 11-1-16

Matthew 28:2 (NKJV) 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.

The earth shook, an angel of God descended and the stone was rolled away.

What an incredible way for God to bring light and victory into what looked like a dark, dismal situation of defeat!

When Jesus rose and emerged from the grave, every demon in hell took notice. Even Satan himself couldn’t ignore this. He thought he had won when Jesus breathed His last breath. But in the end, he was the one who was defeated.

And just as Jesus rose from the grave, bringing victory over death, that victory is there for each and every one of us, too. If our faith and trust are in Jesus, we will also have victory over death.

But we can also have victory in our lives right here on earth! We don’t have to live defeated lives, burdened down with sin, shame or the cares of this world. We don’t have to spend every waking minute stressed by the situations we’re facing.

“How?”, you may ask. How can we have victory when there is so much happening. How can we have victory when it feels like the whole world is falling down around us? How can we have victory when it looks like evil is abounding?

By giving it to God and letting Him take care of it. Let Him handle it. Let Him bear the burdens that are trying so hard to weigh us down.

1 Peter 5:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

No, this won’t make our problems disappear instantly. And it won’t necessarily hand us instant solutions to the troubles we’re facing. But it will bring us peace, if we let it.

The key is that we have to let it. We have to make a choice to take our worries, fears and even our doubts and give them to Him. Is this easy to do? Not always. Sometimes it’s downright difficult, because it means we have to let go and relinquish control to Someone we can’t even see.

But even if we don’t let go, we still never have control over it anyway. We just think we do! Because if we did have control, the situation wouldn’t be bothering us so much to begin with.

So we encourage you today to surrender to Him and give Him your concerns and troubles. Lay them down and surrender them once and for all.

They are not yours to carry.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-28-16

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Today we’re going to clear up a huge misconception that’s been propagated in the body of Christ for a very long time. We don’t know how or when this half-truth began getting spread around, but it’s time for it to be laid to rest right now.

Most of us have heard it said that “God will never give us more than we can handle”. This is often quoted when someone is going through a trial or tough time. The idea is that we will never go through anything that we can’t bear or anything strong enough to break us.

First, let’s talk about the misconception and the real meaning of this verse. We have been told that this verse means that God will never put us through a test, trial or tough time that we can’t hold up under the weight of.

But if we look at this verse in its proper context, we will see that it never says that. Not at all. It says that God will never allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. Nowhere does it mention being under the weight of a trial or a tough time. It also says that when temptation comes, God will provide a way out.

Second, if we never go through anything that’s more than we can bear or handle, we have no need for God. Not His strength, His wisdom or His peace. So if our lives were all nice and comfortable, with no tough times, most of us would simply cruise right through them and push God aside because we wouldn’t see any need for Him in the day to day stuff.

So as we’re being tossed on the waves of the rough waters of life, and we feel like we can’t handle any more, it’s time for us to stop trying to handle it all and start casting our cares upon Him. It takes humility to admit that we need help, but once we get past being humbled, then He can intervene on our behalf.

1 Peter 5:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

So, remember that He offers us help during those tough times that we face and He’s always there for us. We just need to reach out and accept that help.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-4-16

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NKJV) 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Trials and tribulations will come to each of us at one time or another. It’s inevitable. It’s just as much a part of life as joy and happiness.

Jesus himself told us that this would be so.

John 16:33 (NKJV) 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Some will say that life as a believer should be smooth sailing, and that believers should be exempt from such trials and trouble. God’s word doesn’t say that.

But here is what the word does say; that as we face each trial, we have the assurance that God will strengthen us and comfort us as we go through them.

So as we face those things that are before us, we can (and should) look to God for our comfort and our strength.

And remember that no trial lasts forever. He is our strength and our hope.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-25-16

Psalm 27:1 (NKJV) 27 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

Fear is something that we all deal with at different times in our lives. It’s something that comes in various forms and to varying degrees for each of us.

We all fear different things. Some fear being alone. Some fear being in poverty. Some fear sickness and disease. Some fear rejection. The list can be lengthy.

Fear is not from God. It comes from the enemy of our soul. It can come in subtle ways or it can be blatant and in our face.

As we walk through life, we can face so many things that can cause us to fear. Sometimes these things can grip us and tear our emotions to pieces, causing us to feel like ships tossed about on angry ocean waves in the midst of a terrible storm.

But we’re here to tell you that we do not have to be afraid! Yes, some things are hard to deal with and they can seem terrible as we face them. But God is with us. He is by our side. So no matter what we face, He will bring us through.

Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) 10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

There may be times when it feels like we’re being torn apart by the storm, but God is our anchor. He is our deliverer. He is the rock upon which our lives stand firm.

Psalm 27:5 (NKJV) 5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.

So in the midst of your own personal storm, cry out to Him. Cling to Him. And rejoice in His strength and His faithfulness.

And stand firm in your faith. No storm lasts forever.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-16-16

Psalm 30:5 (NKJV) 5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.

As we wrote about yesterday, sometimes we need to wait on God. Sometimes the waiting can be painful. Sometimes it can feel like forever.

And while we’re waiting, we can get pretty caught up in our emotions. They can seem like a rollercoaster, up and then down, and then up again.

And in all of this, things can sometimes seem so unsure. But we need to remember something, and that is this; God’s favor is for life. Weeping may last for the night. But joy comes in the morning!!

This season of struggle that you’re going through is not forever. This trial that you’re facing will not destroy you. This time of drought that you’re in won’t last forever.

We can cry our tears and we can lay on our faces before God, asking Him to take this thing away that’s so daunting in front of us.

But when everything is said and done, our tears and our weeping will only be for a short time. And then joy will return!

So hold fast to His promises and don’t give up hope. Wipe the tears from your eyes and look up. Morning is coming soon.
