Bible Verse of The Day – 10-16-19

James 4:14 (NKJV) 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

What is life? And what’s it really all about anyway?

These are two questions that get asked more than we realize, every second of every day, by people from all walks of life, around the entire world.

Every one of us has probably pondered on this more than once. It’s part of a built-in desire that longs for satisfaction in our lives.

It’s this very same desire that causes us to chase after so many things, hoping that the next thing will be “the one”.

But they never are. They are never that thing that satisfies us and fulfills us.

Even Solomon in all of his wisdom and understanding wrestled with this.

To this day there is no one who can rival the wealth and fame of Solomon. Even thousands of years ago, when information was spread solely by word of mouth, his fame spread to places worldwide.

People traveled for days and weeks at a time to come meet with him because of his reputation. Yet, as Solomon pondered life, he deduced that it was all vanity and grasping for the wind.

Ecclesiastes 1:14 (NKJV) 14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

So, if all of this is vanity and grasping for the wind, and none of it satisfies, then what is life really all about? Where can we find true satisfaction?

We can only find true satisfaction in The One, the Creator of us all and everything around us. He will fulfill us. He will satisfy us.

It’s up to us to pursue Him, instead of all the things of the world that leave us constantly empty and searching for more.

1 John 2:16 (NKJV) 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

His love goes beyond anything we can imagine or comprehend. Let’s stop grasping for the wind. Reach, instead, for Him.

Amen

Bible verse of The Day – 3-9-17

John 4:13 (NKJV) 13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again…”

As with most anything that Jesus said, there was always more than meets the eye if we study His words.

The same is true with his statement above; Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again.

Jesus was referring to water coming from a specific well. Or, in a more general sense, water from any well. That water will quench our natural thirst, for a little while. But we will become thirsty again soon.

We can also draw a parallel when it comes to material things. There are many, many things we reach for and grab hold of, hoping they will satisfy us. But in the end, they leave us feeling empty, and still longing for fulfillment.

It’s time that we take the words of Jesus seriously and long for the water that only He can give. He wants us to be fulfilled and satisfied. In fact, He longs for it more badly than we long for it.

And He is always reaching out to us, hoping we will grab hold of His hand and never let go. Because in the end, when everything is said and done, only He can truly satisfy us and remove those longings that we so desperately try to fill with stuff.

Revelation 3:20 (NKJV) 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
