Bible Verse of The Day – 7-3-15

Philippians 4:11-12 (NKJV) 11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

I learned a valuable lesson today.

We’ve taught on these verses several times in the past, but today I learned even more from them, so I wanted to pass it along to all of you 🙂

I learned even more today about what it means to be content. And I learned that sometimes we need to adjust our thinking in order to be content.

Sometimes we tend to look at what we don’t have, or maybe even what we used to have. Looking at what we used to have might happen if we have gone through a season of famine or loss.

As we recover from that season of loss, we need to realize that it takes time to get back on our feet and to a point where no longer feel defeated or inadequate.

So instead of looking back at where we were or what we had, we need to look at how far we have come and what we have been able to accomplish since that time of famine or loss.

Once we get this into our heads, then we can begin to look forward, look ahead, to that next step on our way to recovery.

And during this entire process, we need to continually be thanking God for His provision and for bringing us through the storm, even if we may have some battle scars from it.

As we learn to be content and thankful, then we will be prepared for whatever God has for us next.

This doesn’t usually come easy and it definitely doesn’t happen overnight. But if we don’t give up and we don’t grow weary we will be blessed and reap a harvest.

Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-29-14

Galatians 5:13 NKJV)  For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

Where do we find God in this world that is so big? God is everywhere, always working to help someone or some situation. He is always moving. Where there is a NEED, we will find Him.

It doesn’t matter who we are or how much we have, there is always something else we think we need.  We may have a lot of money already, but we want more. We may have a huge family, but no quiet time. We may have a big beautiful home, but no time to enjoy it.

We can always find something that we would like to have to make our situation better. Is it a legitimate need or is it just a want or desire?

Ask ourselves today, do we really need these things we have set our hearts after? Maybe we have all we need right now.

Have we gotten so caught up in what we think we need that now we cannot enjoy life without it or them? As long as we keep chasing these so called needs, there is no time for anyone or anything else.

We are all called to serve, not ourselves, but others, through love.

Putting aside ourselves today, and serving others, will fill that emptiness, bringing us joy and happiness that will last a long time.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-1-13

(Genesis 39:2 NKJV)  The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

Success is something that we all pursue and desire, in one form or another. The funny thing is that each us has a slightly different definition of what success is.

One thing I can guarantee you is that not a single one of us would include being a slave in that definition.

But take a look at the verse above. Notice that Joseph was a successful man, all while being in the house of his master!

Joseph was sold into slavery. He was forced to be a servant… first for Potiphar and then directly under Pharaoh. Never in his days in Egypt did Joseph live independently of his Egyptian masters.

And yet the Bible says repeatedly that Joseph found favor with God and that everything he put his hand to prospered.

You see, God can still show us His favor, even if we’re not in what we feel like are the best circumstances. We just need to let Him! We need to shake off the world’s definitions of success and take on God’s definitions.

And most importantly, we need to learn to be content where God has us. Only when we learn to be content and thankful for where we are at and what we have will God see fit to prosper us.

This is not an easy thing to do, but it’s what God desires for us.
